The UK internal market bill is back in the Commons today. The Lords made *a lot* of amendments and not just on rule of law and Northern Ireland protocol but on a wide range of devolution issues. Here are my top amendments to look out for today 👇
Let's start with *those* infamous powers to break international law (42-27). I set out here last week how a deal could allow the UK government to back down on these. The PM is speaking to von der Leyen later and the Joint Committee is meeting today...
We'll have to see if sufficient progress is made before tonight's vote to allow the UK government to do away with the clauses. But even if MPs reinsert them, the Lords will almost certainty remove them again when the bill goes back on Wednesday - so this is not the last chance
Lord Hope's amendment on Common Frameworks (1) is also one to watch. One of the big criticisms of the bill is that it would remove the discretion of the four governments collectively to agree that divergence was acceptable in some circumstances.
UKG previously suggested that a compromise on common frameworks might be possible, then rowed back. This is another one the Lords will be likely to push back on if its rejected. If this happens, @paulwaugh reports Gove is thinking of ditching the bill

Next week the UK gov is expected to introduce the Finance Bill with yet more powers to break international law, on top of those in the UKIM bill. This won't go down well in the EU. But with a deal supposedly around the corner, will this allow the UK drop the offending clauses?\U0001f9f5

What the heck is this "bootstrapping" thing and how can you get in on it -- a thread
If you are not part of the bootstrapping world, the proposition of this thread will seem absurd.
It will go against fundamental beliefs you
may have about business.
Let's get started.
What do all of these companies have in common?
@Atlassian @Mailchimp @1Password @basecamp
They didn't take on investors when they started.
People have different definitions of "bootstrapped," but in usually it means a business that does not take on investors to start.
It may have funding from the founders, or credit card/bank loans. Generally the idea is to be entirely customer-funded
Unless no one has ever told you this, you already have what it takes to run a business.

What term do you prefer for tech companies that have not and do not plan to take any funding from external sources?

Since Farmers protest, Troll Army has been hyperactive digging out old and unrelated vidoes/images and linking it to Farmers protest to demean the protesters. Just like they did for CAA/NRC protesters in Dec-Feb.
Here are a few #AltNewsFactCheck

A photo that predates both the farmers' protest and the introduction of agricultural reform ordinances approved in June was falsely shared as Muslim man disguised as Sikh to participate in the agitation. #AltNewsFactCheck

A thread debunking the feminist myth that what you wear doesn't matter, and clothing doesn't prevent sexual harassments. (Proven with scientific studies on the topic)
Short summary: Yes the hijab does prevent sexual harassments and attracts less male attention
Scientific studies have shown women are aware of the sexual signals their clothing sends:
1- Women who wore immodest clothing did so in order to flirt with strangers.
2- Women who wore sexual clothing did so in order to have sex with strangers.

More scientific studies confirm these findings, and have also shown women who wear immodest or sexual clothing self-objectify themselves, which cause anxiety, unhappiness, body-dissatisfaction, and body shame.

Another study found that women who want to have sex with strangers (i.e short term relationships) choose to wear immodest/sexual to attract those types of men.
Whereas women who wanted long term relationships (i.e marriages) wore modest clothing.

Studies on objectification show that only women who dressed sexually were objectified.
fMRI scans found that alpha males, despite being attracted to sexualized women, saw them as objects, & felt disgusted by them. But they did not objectify modest women.
