The study they refer to, is a groundbreaking peer-reviewed paper by Armenian molecular geneticists. What it says is that by studying 225 affected and 225 healthy subjects they found a correlation between schizophrenia and a *variant of the “C1QB gene”,

3) at least in ARM population”, further studies in other populations would have to be done to confirm the results. This is a short summary of the paper’s conclusion.

So what is this “C1qB gene”? Is it an “Armenian gene”, as Аzeris like to claim? ⬇️

4) C1qB “gene” is a subcomponent of C1q protein complex which is a component of C1 complement system — C1 is what makes up the innate human/animal immune system. It is involved in a bunch of very crucial immune system functions.

5) Azеris claiming “they don’t have this gene” is the most amusing response I get. Well, the only way you wouldn’t “have it” is if you were a spiոeless cell, i.e. an amoeba; or in the best case if you were very siск (C1q deficiency), or

This Day in Labor History: January 1, 1935. The Carl Mackley Houses opened in Philadelphia. Built by the Hosiery Workers Union, this project created workers’ housing complexes that combined ideas of solidarity with modern architecture and the working class future! Let's explore!

Decent housing for workers in cities was expensive and this is why unions began to become interested in new ideas to solve this problem. This was not the only example of a union-based housing project during these years.

The Hosiery Workers’ sister union, the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, was already working on such a project and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union had worked to create a workers’ cooperative apartment building in the Bronx as early as 1925.

Philadelphia had a higher home ownership rate than other cities, but most of this was single-family and the rental market was very tight.

So the Hosiery Workers decided to target a union-sponsored housing complex for its members and other workers. It believed that big projects were better for workers and hoped to influence federal housing policy through its housing program.

I watched #Shazam last night (somehow) for the first time, and of the DC films I've seen, it's my favorite by a mile! To be fair I still haven't seen Aquaman or Birds of Prey, but my guess is that Shazam will still be my favorite when I do. My (probably) luke warm takes, below 1/

I thought I'd like it but I didn't know I'd like it as much as i did. Setting it in Philly endears it to me even more! I adore Philadelphia, so when movies are set there it probably makes me like them a little more than I otherwise would. That's just a thing for me. 2/

I also feel this movie made me believe that regular people in this world love the other DC heroes, specifically Supes and Batman. It just felt like a given in this story when they were brought up. Like "yeah of course heroes exist here!" It was part of the fabric of this world 3/

In my own headcanon, until it's contradicted, this film takes place in an area of the multiverse seperate from the other films. One where things are a little less grim and Supes isnt at all conflicted about being Supes, Batman isn't a murderer, WW is I guess the same, idk. 4/

After I finished it I couldn't help but wonder what a DCEU would look like if this had been the 1st movie in the series. If DC wanted to start their world with the idea that all the big heroes already exist, this would have been a perfect way to introduce that concept! 5/

I really can’t see how, after the last four and half years, the breakup of the UK can be avoided. What a historical irony that a Brexit intended to make Britain ‘great again’ actually brings about the demise of ‘Great’ Britain.

THREAD: meet my brother

Unsurprisingly, being locked down over Xmas and New Year turns thoughts to family – and to my brother who died almost 14 years ago in a motorbike accident when he was 39.

First some context: Andreas was 8 years older than me – big difference when we were kids, but we were close as adults and instant messaged every day (yahoo messenger! remember that?!).

Last week I found some of the message chats we used to have that I collated for his funeral & they made me laugh out loud and miss him all over again. So I wanted to share some of my funny, quirky brother with the world – here goes…

He worked at Yahoo doing difficult coding. He loved coffee (with milk). He was also very funny.

He was a computer wizard – there was nothing he couldn’t code. I was and remain a rank amateur compared to him.

The cor*na hoax thread. How and why, best as I can tell. First, how does the new virus work? The vast majority of cases are asymptomatic or indistinguishable from the common cold. A small minority of cases affect the lungs. But how it does should be clarified...

The virus doesn't cause pneumonia. Was often mistaken for pneu. at first, but doesn't cause the lungs to fill with fluid. Nor does it cause the failure of the lungs to pump; rather, it impairs the lungs' ability to absorb oxygen on a cellular level...

It also seems like it never fully destroys the lungs' ability to do this. From personal friends who've developed severe illness, like "having someone sitting on your chest". But I've never heard of a single cor*na death attributed to brain death due to no oxygen...

Rather, the stress caused by low oxygen makes some other organ "pop" first. The media is very vague on how it kills you, because you might start to put two and two together. That organ is almost always the heart. Lowered oxygen causes elevated heart rates. Sound familiar?

Yeah. The effects of the new virus on the body are indistinguishable from... moderate aerobic exercise. The only people who've died from the virus are -those who a light jog would kill-. What category is that? Does the data bear me out?
