4. What are the preconditions to start option Selling:

You should know technical Analysis basics like:
- Support/Resistance
- Chart Patterns
- Candle Patterns
- Dow Theory (HH, LL)

This will help you start taking high-probability trades.
5. Risk Management is a must for option selling

If you don't learn to manage your risk, making money in trading is going to be an extremely difficult endeavor

Have some rules:
1. Risk no more than 0.25% per trade as a beginner
2. Risk no more than 2% in a day for the first year
6. Risk per day

You have to decide how much you're willing to lose in a day.

Whatever the amount, divide it by 3. Just risk that amount in 3 trades in a day. Stop trading if you lose 3 times.

This prevents us from overtrading and losing more.
7. Minimum Capital requirement for option selling.

Beginners can learn and practice option selling with 5L capital.

You'll be able to trade 5 lots with this. If you're doing well can take leverage by buying options and selling more quantities.

(Only if you're doing well)
8. Safest pathway for beginners to start:

Target options that have over 90% probability of going to zero.

As a beginner target only 0.5% per week.

If you've been profitable for 6 months, try for targets like 0.75% to 1% a week.
9. When to follow Directional strategies and when to follow non-directional strategies?

If the market is in a range, can sell options on both sides outside the range and make a profit. (strangle)

If the market has given a breakout or breakdown then avoid non-directional trading
10. Build a profit cushion.

I started selecting strikes initially which were very low premiums. But had a higher probability of going to zero.

In order to become a really good trader, you need to have "profit cushion".
11. Which strikes to sell?

Once you get the profit can sell strikes based on:

- Support/Resistance
- Premium Based Strike Price

Get a sense of when and how to do adjustments.
12. Stock Options or Index options which one is good for a beginner-level person?

I personally found trading in stocks is totally useless. Not worth the effort you put in.

Unlike an index, stocks can move > 10% and beyond in the F&O segment

Not worth the stress they cause
13. Beginners should concentrate on index option selling.

Find your comfort whether it's Nifty or Bank Nifty.

Personally, I have seen the switch from Nifty to Bank Nifty being quite difficult for some traders.

Might as well start practicing Bank Nifty from the get-go.
14. Top 3 mistakes we made trading.

- Not building a portfolio when the market corrects 30%
- Venturing in stock options due to their luring premiums
- Intend to recover all losses from the same stock thereby ending up marrying a stock
15. What % of return one should expect on a weekly or monthly basis?

Beginners would be doing great if they just manage to even break even after their first year.

Most people are wiped out in the initial years.

Later on, one can gradually move from 2-4% per month returns.
16. How to maintain Good Risk Reward in option Selling

This is an area which we want to learn the most and focus upon in the next 2 years.

However, a simple rule to follow, if you're making 4% a month, don't lose more than 2% in any single week.
17. Is knowledge of Option Greeks is really Important?

Big no! We are aware of greeks and have spent time learning them, but they have not helped us in a single trade.

If you know your support & resistance and when to exit, then no need to know Greeks.
18. Website to analyze Option Chain Data

Although we don't give much importance to option data as it doesn't work nowadays.

Opstra & NSE websites are enough, additionally, our friends really like Icharts and trading tick.

We've started to use Icharts properly now.

Where is the action taking place?

For eg, Nifty Heatmap Can easily scan for:

- Long Build up = Price Up and OI up
- Long Unwinding = Price Down and OI down
- Short Buildup = Price Down and OI up
- Short Covering = Price Up and OI down


Price levels of OI being added:

• Check 15 mins Built-up in any stock
• Can find Intraday Bullish and bearish trend
• Eg of IBUL who was down 5% on Friday. Short Built-up had started in the morning itself.
• Shows the quantities which are being traded in those intervals.


Time Intervals:

• There are 25, time intervals available every day.

• If a stock has to go up or down a lot it will be heavily dominated in these time intervals.

• IBUL had 10 times short built up on Friday. -5.79 %

• ITC had 14 long built-ups on Friday. +2.6%.

Step 1: Stock Selection

1. For this strategy you're going to have to choose some stocks that you think will be doing well in the future/long term.

2. Stock must be in an uptrend.

3. Stock options should be liquid enough to trade in.

Step 2: Which option to sell?

1. Sell put at a support according to charts.

2. Sell put at a strike far away from the spot where you think the probability of the stock falling will be very very low.

3. Sell put at a price where you're willing to buy the stock at.

Step 3: What to do when in profit/loss?

1. If in profit you can just roll up the puts thereby increasing the ROI or shift to other stocks to make more profit.

2. If in loss take delivery of the shares equivalent to the lot size in cash market.

Step 4: What to do after taking the delivery?

1. Sell calls to lower your cost price of the stock. For eg, you took delivery of Reliance at 1900, sell 2100 CE which is about 10% away.

2. Keep doing this till your CE expires ITM and then give delivery of your stock away

0/ Who is this for?

This will greatly benefit people who freeze when it comes to managing their trades and keep booking losses.

Some trade with too much fear as well when things go wrong.

Knowing these adjustments will give you the confidence to try to manage your trades.

Most of them are to lower risk on the side the market is going in.

Some adjustments even increase the profit potential and probabilities of the trade being in profit on expiry.

Let's begin by having a look at the adjustments.

Here is the adjustment number 1 below.

1/ Don't do anything till your breakeven arrives

One reason these strategies go wrong far too quickly is due to adjusting them too frequently.

You can escape most adjustments if you simply wait for the market to arrive at your breakeven.

This will work well in monthly options.

2/ Remove Risk from Untested Side

If you've taken an iron fly and the market has gone up you can shift your put buy upwards and lock the downside risk to potentially zero.

This way you've secured one side and just need to manage the bleeding side.

Rule 1:

"Trade with a stop loss of 2% on your capital for the week."

If you're losing more than 2%, chances are your reading of the market is wrong. The best would be to call it quits for that week.

" Don't trade in the first 10 mins of any day"

Every day, there is far too much noise in the first few minutes. Positional traders should avoid some time in order to avoid being butchered right away.

Rule 3:

" Wait for candle closings in your timeframe"

Beware of wicks. They are buyer/seller traps. Rather wait for a good candle to close above your support/resistance to open/close a trade.

Rule 4:

" Don't lose more than 10% of your capital in a big gap"

The day I experienced the greatest Mtm loss to my capital was February 24. The figure was -47 lakhs. It was around 10% of my capital. Losing much more would set me back several months.

2. OBV divergence.

(Thread) Why do I own individual stocks?

Thesis:

1. The digitalization of our world is 10% complete.
2. This megatrend will continue for at least another decade.
3. If you enjoy spending your free time on individual stocks, then the potential for outsized returns is possible.

What is my approach?

There are two parts to my portfolio.

- 40% in Vanguard All-World ETF. This is on autopilot w/ regular contributions.
- 60% in what I consider to be high growth stocks

I keep a balance by adding cash. No shuffling around unless it gets too out of whack.

The latter is the interesting part.

I invest in companies that can

1. successfully disrupt an industry with new business models $TTD $SQ $PTON $TDOC

2. further enable the digital transformation with their services and infrastructure $ZS $HUBS $TWLO $CRWD

I intend to hold my shares indefinitely and allow my investments to compound over time.

I don’t believe that it is possible to time the market. Markets go up and down. I hold on knowing that quality businesses tend to bounce back.

The list of reasons to sell is always long.

If you have full conviction in your holdings, then no single piece of “infotainment” should make you change your mind.

Ignore it + people who make predictions about the economy.

And perspective goes much further than tactics. Tactics are useless to investors in a matter of days—sometimes in a matter of hours. But perspective is something that stays with the investor for a lifetime. It allows you to adapt to the changing market and economic landscape.

While keeping it simple won’t make it any easier to predict the future—no one has a crystal ball—it can give you the necessary capacity to make rational decisions, no matter what happens next.

Many traders have no consistency when sizing their positions.

The pros have this down to a science.

Here's my dead simple, 3-step guide to position sizing (and to outperforming 99% of other traders in the process):

Step 1:

Define how much of your account you're willing to risk per trade.

Personally, I never risk more than 1% of my account equity.

If I have $100,000 account, I will never risk more $1,000.

This ensures I will never blow up my account on one single trade.

There are successful traders who risk 2-3% of their account per trade, but I find it most calming to risk 1% or less.

The first step in this process is completely up to you - only you can dictate how much risk you can tolerate.

Step 2:

Look for entries & exits that are within 5% (preferably less) of each other.

This means if I buy a stock & have a 5% stop loss, I can put a 20% equity position on & still be risking 1% of my equity.

Your account will thank you w/ 20% in a stock that goes up 100%.

Step 3:

Position size using this formula:

Total equity (100%) / Trade Stop Loss %

So, if your stop loss is 4%, here's the math:

100% equity / 4% stop loss = 25% Equity Position Size

(assuming 1% equity risk).

I'm gonna do my other star wars thread tomorrow, which will primarily be me yelling at a @RowanKaiser-shaped strawman for calling the First Order and The Resistance "cosplayers who the rest of the galaxy has to deal with"

the deal w/the New Republic, the First Order, and the Resistance is very weird and complex and I actually take issue with how Story Group frames the actual conflict.

pre-TFA stuff is presented as a "cold war" between the New Republic and the remnants of the Empire that form the First Order, which 100% makes sense.

But they frame the First Order's attack on the Hosnian system and the subsequent battle that takes place across TFA and TLJ as a full on war when it's very clearly a coup. A war implies at least equal standing, but the First Order completely wrecks shop and takes over the galaxy.

ok never mind I'm fucking doing this now.

The First Order fleet we see in TLJ is *not* the entire fleet of the First Order (I don't even think Starkiller Base was their main base of operations honestly, it couldn't have been considering they were operating out of Wild Space)

Planning for Overlord and Neptune had a serious snag, how to get troops from LSTs onto the beach as simply ramming them onto the beaches and dropping the ramp was known to damage the exceptionally vulnerable LSTs and felt to be unsustainable in the mid to long term. /2


LSTs were essential in sustaining Overlord's progress and were a subject of major headaches in the planning phase, and a real subject of friction when it came to launching additional amphibious operations such as Dragoon.

A single LSTs loss represented a capability nick. /3


So, logic dictated, we don't really want these remarkable but rare and highly valuable vessels constantly doing beach landings, we want something to act as a medium between ship to shore, and in came the (mostly) American designed Rhino. /4
