According to the Mahabharata, there are 14 reasons for sadness.

Yudhishthira goes to meet Bhishma, who is dying, after the Kuru war, amid a victory that has come at a high cost.

 Yudhisthira's inquisitive conversation with Bhishma, which takes place here, spans the Mahabharata's Shanti and Anushasana parvas.

Yudhishthira asks Bhishma in this discussion, "What causes a person to be sad? Why do people experience pain?"
Bhishma's response is lengthy, spanning roughly 18 shlokas. He enlists for a variety of reasons, both intrinsic and external.
Reason 1 – Regardless of worldly comforts, being in a foreign location, away from home and loved ones, causes gnawing loneliness. They become longing and yearning as a result of this.
(There is a great phrase in Welsh that describes this feeling for home — hiraeth.)
Reason 2 – It could be due to personal shortcomings, but when a person is abandoned by their friends and loved ones, their home feels like a foreign land, which makes them unhappy.
Reason 3 - Even when a person has done something good and decent, if their friends treat them badly, it might cause agony.
Reason 4 – When wealthy and powerful people, who may or may not be as good human beings as you are, treat you with disrespect and apathy, it can lead to pain.
Reason 5 - Despite being a smart, honorable, & capable individual, many people don't receive the fair benefits they deserve. However, when the undeserving receive it, it causes anger. (The expectation theory of motivation, which is similar in nature, is used in HR Mgmt.)
6th Reason –

It is stressful to be without adequate means of living (lack of unique expertise).

However, if a person is too proud to ask for aid out of a false sense of self-respect, he or she will suffer.
Reason 7 – It causes tremendous sorrow when those who benefit from your generosity and goodness of heart regard it as a flaw, when they take it for granted and, as a result, diminish you in your own eyes.
8th Reason –

It can be painful for a knowledgeable and deserving person to be belittled and ridiculed by people who lack knowledge and kindness.
9th Reason –

When an opponent acts as if he or she is a friend, develops trust, and then breaks that trust, the result is bitterness and misery.
Reason 10 – Even if a person has a good understanding of the material world and a gift for describing complicated events, if they are disregarded and belittled by the educated and respected, they will suffer.
Reason 11 – When a person is without money and intelligence but still seeks greater things and fails due to personal flaws, it causes sadness and pain.
Reason 12 – Family problems such as a lack of harmony within the family, family criticism of your decisions, betrayals, and malice by sons and sons-in-law can cause a lot of sorrow.
Reason 13 – Having money set away for retirement stolen and having to rely on untrustworthy individuals for survival makes a person uneasy, apprehensive, and embarrassed.
Reason 14 – A close relative has become distant and furious as a result of their own actions/misunderstandings, and you have been unable to appease them and make amends, resulting in misery.
In this exchange, Yudhishthira, the one who poses the question, has gone through a lot of pain from ignominy to victory. Bhishma, who has lived a life full of tough choices and who, even in his final moments, is in excruciating pain, responds.
Perhaps it is because of the intricacy of these characters and their gravitas that they can explore such a wide range of issues in such a timeless manner.

Unique Rama temple near Hyderabad where Hanuman finds no place.


Here we can find Rama, His Consort, Devi Sita, His brothers Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna, and their wives, Urmila, Mandavi and Shrutakeerthi on one platform.

Interestingly, while Rama is normally seen clean shaven, in this temple he sports a mustache.

"This temple is the only temple we have in our country which has Lord Rama’s brothers’ and their wives’ idols installed in the temple”.

The temple is the only Lord Rama temple without Hanuman.
The story behind it is that since Hanuman is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva, followers of the Veera Vaishnavism of Sri Ramanuja Charyulu did not install a Hanuman idol in the temple.

Hey, for people interested in this stuff, here's a thread about a change we made to running our facebook account:

So, about 5 years ago, we got on facebook. Why? Well, facebook has a big audience and they like to consume on facebook. So, we started posting comics there, even though we got paid nothing and facebook made money off the free content.

Why? Because back then, once in a while, you would say "also hey, I sell books" or "hey, I'm going to be signing at this event" and your facebook followers would actually see it.

Effectively, the implicit old arrangement was "facebook lets me reach readers efficiently, and I supply facebook with free content they run ads on."

Over time, like a bad business partner, facebook basically made it impossible to reach your audience without *paying them*. Thus, you supply them free content on which they run ads, and you get nothing in exchange.

1 There's a chasm between an NLP technology that works well in the research lab and something that works for applications that real people use. This was eye-opening when I started my career, and every time I talk to an NLP engineer at @textio, it continues to strike me even now.

2 Research conditions are theoretical and/or idealized. A huge problem for so-called NLP or AI startups with highly credentialed academic founders is that they bring limited knowledge of what it takes to build real products outside the lab.

3 A product is ultimately a thing that people pay for - not just cool technology or user experience. But I’m not even talking about knowledge gaps in go-to-market work. I'm talking purely technical gaps: how you go from science project to performant + delightful user experience.

4 Most commoditized NLP packages solve well-understood problems in standard ways that sacrifice either precision or performance. In a research lab, this is not usually a hard trade-off; in general, no one is using what you make, so performance is less important than precision.

5 In software, when you’re making something for real people to use, these tradeoffs are a big deal. Especially if you’re asking those people to pay for what you’ve made (can’t get away from that pesky GTM thinking). They expect quality, which includes precision AND performance.

Ahilyabai was Born on May 31,1725 in the village of Chondi,Jamkhed distt,Maharashtra to a man named Mankoji Shinde,who was the Patil(Chief) of a village and a member of proud Dhangar Community.


Despite the fact that girls' education was a farther dream in those days, Ahilyabai was homeschooled by her father.
Ahilya didn't belong to any royal family but in a twist of fate she is still remembered as one of the most revered Queen in the history.


While they were living their humdrum lives, one day Malhar Rao Holkar, commander of the Peshwa Bajirao & Lord of the Malwa stopped in Chondi on his way to Pune, where he couldn't help but notice a young 8yrs old Ahilyabai in the temple service feeding the poor & hungry.

He was so impressed by the sheer innocence&beauty with simplicity character of Ahilyabai dat he asked her hand in marriage for his son Khanderao Holkar.Just like that she got married to Khanderao in 1733 at a tender age of 8&became a bride of esteemed Maratha community of Holkars

But destiny had something else in store for her as her husband died in the Battle of Kumbher in 1754 leaving her widow at 29.Distressed Ahilyabai was to commit Sati when her father-in-law Malhar Rao refused to let it happen.
