Durham County Council has upheld my complaint that Councillor David Boyes breached its Code of Conduct for communications in respect of Travellers. This would appear to be the first time in England that a councillor has been so held to account for such communications. [1/16]

The grounds for the complaint are already set out by me: https://t.co/0MDqO6dyja. In summary: on 7 May 2020, Cllr Boyes posted on a Facebook site he shared with another councillor a video of scorch damage from barbeque trays and littering on and around a picnic table.
[2/16]

The table was in a picnic area in a nature reserve in the Easington constituency which Cllr Boyes represents. The video was accompanied by a comment from Cllr Boyes linking the ā€˜state’ of the tables with Travellers. That post attracted a number of comments which he liked.
[3/16]

Those liked comments included:

ā–Ŗļø ā€˜scum should be f**k*ng shot oxygen thieves’ [edited]

ā–Ŗļø ā€˜And they wonder why many people do not welcome them’.

Cllr Boyes accepted at the hearing that he did not have proof that Travellers caused the damage and that it was wrong for him to so implicate Travellers.

Our story begins with Patrick Miller of Dalswinton. He was born in Glasgow, the third son of minor gentry; William Miller of Glenlee (not Sir William, baronet), a Writer to the Signet, and Janet Hamilton (pic National Galleries of Scotland) https://t.co/dEA1dBpWRk

Patrick attended the University of Glasgow, where he decided (or it was decided for him) to take up banking as a profession. By the age of 29 he was a partner in the firm of William Ramsay of Barnton (independently wealthy from money his father made in the Canongate inns trade)

Ramsay was also a merchant, and Patrick spent much time looking after the shipping business of the firm. He is said to have learned first hand the perils of the sea, sparking an insatiable interest in naval architecture.

By the age of 36, Patrick was elected to the Court of the Bank of Scotland, where he was a reformer and a pioneer - instituting the practice of accepting the promisory notes of competitor banks. Both he and the bank prospered. (pic NGS)

Miller invested his wealth wisely in the furnaces of the Scottish industrial revolution and became one of the largest shareholders in the Carron Iron Company, one of the largest iron works in Europe.
Connections: From the European Frankfurt School to Black Lives Matter and Critical Theory, an exploration https://t.co/ojp1kC7TaB 1/

We are in the midst of a battle of ideas against an adversary that is skilled and has been hard at work over decades in our academic and cultural institutions.
https://t.co/ojp1kC7TaB 2/

Marxism predicted the inevitable transition from capitalism to communism through class struggle and the internal contradictions of the capitalist system. https://t.co/ojp1kC7TaB 3/

When this failed to happen, & instead the working class, & society in general grew richer within a capitalist framework, the Frankfurt School came into existence in Frankfurt, Germany in 1923, & following the rise of the Nazis moved to @Columbia Univ in the USA in 1933. 4/

They developed a critique of the capitalist system and the culture that makes it possible to exist and thrive. Critical theory seeks to change the culture to bring about the Marxist revolution that material and economic forces alone could not achieve. https://t.co/ojp1kC7TaB 5/
Since we’re talking about the King James Bible, I’ll just point out a few places where it’s clear how there’s always loss in translation. Like, if you’re only relying on the English there are things that just plain don’t make sense. But in the original? Lots clearer. 1/x Thread.

ā€œAnd Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.ā€

I mean, what??

In the Hebrew her name is Hava /חוה because she is the mother of all living/haye/חי (and you need enough Hebrew to understand what the vavs and yuds are doing here).

ā€œAnd he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.ā€

Again, this makes no sense and honestly is a bad translation, I know how they got ā€œprinceā€ but שרית should be ā€œyou have striven +

Or ā€œcontendedā€ or ā€œstruggledā€ or ā€œwrestledā€ with God /Elohim/aka the ā€œElā€ suffix and the word for wrestled I didn’t transliterate, in the past tense it’s ā€œsaritaā€ so even if you don’t know conjugation you can already figure out how sr + el gets you close to Israel, yes?

None of this is clear in the KJV.

Or a third example.

ā€œAnd God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you... Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God... +
