A few thoughts:
- It’s all too convenient for Christians to look at this video & say “These are not real Christians!” And to move on without self-examination or acknowledgement of the church’s failures in the last 4 years (or 400 years for that matter)



- I don’t often see this same energy when it comes to antebellum slavers, I hear “They were men of their times!”🤷🏾‍♂️

- These people in the video may or may not be “real Christians.” The Lord allows the wheat to grow up with the tares, he will separate sheep and goats in the end.
- Regardless, All Christians must find their voice when self-identifying Christians misrepresent Christ and Kingdom.

- Dude’s prayer makes clear that he was either raised in Church or has been around church a long time. IOW he was not discipled away from his views. He was discipled either toward his views or he has apparently been in a church whose teachings are toothless re: this syncretism.

In the eyes of our neighbors, this brings shame on the whole church, not because the church has told inconvenient truths, but because these people have supported politically convenient lies.

A. The definition of AGP.

Some people in this country are sincerely confused to hear people talk about “white supremacy” in conjunction with politics in America today. At the same time, a lot of people, both openly and in private, have consternation about changing demographics in America.

Let me explain.

In 1870, right after the Civil War, the US Census showed that there were six states in which African Americans made up more than 45% of the state population - South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. The region we call the “Deep South” plus Florida.

Ten years prior, many of these human beings were considered to be the legal property of other human beings. And then came the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the US Constitution. Suddenly, these former slaves were citizens. And the men could VOTE.

Suddenly, a lot of whites in these southern states had the fear that they were now either in the minority or at least not in a strong plurality. Their former subjects were now recognized as their equals according to the text of the US Constitution.

And they freaked out.

⭐️ What We Learned ⭐️

1: 2020, a thread. Like everyone, B4B faced countless curve-balls in 2020. Here are some things we learned, that helped us increase our influence in the toughest year we have lived through /

2: Act quickly: As Covid fears grew, we had a contingency plan ready by March 2, long before lockdown was a threat. By March 12, work from home was a thing, and on March 15 we closed the office completely /

3: Put the team first: In a crisis, you need the team more than ever. We got our staff from overseas back home early, trialled work-from-home early, put health (inc mental health) and working policies in place early, so everyone was clear what was happening /

4: Use the tech. Our team was already using Zoom, Slack and various other tools but they really came into their own to do the heavy lifting of working remotely, before the Covid nervousness became a full-blown crisis /

5: Keep the team vibe: Daily team Zooms – a huddle to get things going in the morning, an update in the afternoon, & always a willingness to use some of the time for social chit-chat & the small-talk that we take for granted in an office. /

The most frustrating aspect of working in computational probability/statistics is that it's basically impossible to construct algorithms that actually return well-defined probabilistic quantities and this results in no end of chaos.

At best algorithms can return approximations with quantifiable error, but to understand when approximations are useful you have to learn enough math to understand the exact result and how the algorithmic approximation relates to that exact result. Many do not do this.

More commonly programmers project the heuristics that prove successful in other computing problems -- pattern matching, type consistency, unit testing, relying on compiler errors, etc -- but these test only the algorithm and not the relevance of the algorithm to a stats problem.

Unaware of these subtleties many end up conceptually replacing the algorithm for the output being approximated, assuming that algorithmic properties are inherent and well-defined features of the underlying probabilistic/statistical system.

Needless to say this generalizes...poorly. Even worse: without formal knowledge of what is being approximated the poor generalization performance itself is easy to ignore and naive applications drift ever so steadily away from any well-defined mathematical objective.

Undoubtedly there is going to be a lot of conversation surrounding the new viral variants. This is me being completely transparent when I say this: please don’t panic. The most important thing we can do is prevent the virus from spreading. Let me elaborate.

It will take a large amount of genetic diversity to completely render these vaccines useless. These mutations have not been able to alter the S protein’s shape to the extent that the vaccine-induced antibodies provided by these vaccines are not able to bind at all.

Remember these vaccines (especially these using the whole spike protein) make polyclonal antibody responses. This means that the antibodies created will be able to bind the Coronavirus’ spike in multiple places not just one. Hence a broader range of protection even with changes.

We have many tools to prevent the virus from spreading. Physical barriers (masks), social distancing, and proper hand hygiene. We also have effective vaccines that need to be used immediately. We want and need more protected people and fewer susceptible people. Simple as that.

If the virus doesn’t spread it doesn’t mutate. It needs us, as a host, and our cells to do this. If we don’t give it that, it can’t spread nor mutate. With the vaccines, if the neutralizing activity of vaccine sera goes down too much the vaccines can be replaced and modified.

i hate that the school/covid situation is framed as 'reopen schools.' schools ARE open. schools ARE meeting, daily. teachers are working their asses off to make online teaching work. schools. are. open.

the question is when can schools meet in person and start face to face learning.

when you frame it as 'face to face learning' or 'in person learning' it exposes what the REAL problem is. face to face/in person shit is NOT OK RIGHT NOW.

and with that we get the entire avalanche of real problems. some kids are NOT adjusting to online learning well. some kids need resources that online learning can't give. all human beings need to be around other human beings.

AND--it's not safe to be around other human beings in enclosed rooms right now. AND there's variants running rampant throughout our communities and those variants THRIVE in out of control rampant conditions. AND we're on our way to losing 500,000 people to this crap.
