POSITIVE MENTALITY IN A NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENT (THREAD)

First, know that WE are the captains of our ships.

All that you allow to mentally affect you, is because you allow it so.

You, just as easily, can take away the negative drain of outside circumstances by ‘flicking a switch’ within your mind.

It is imperative that you do not allow to get inside your head:

- Other people’s self-limiting beliefs
- Others’ opinions of you or your work

- Any thought that does not serve you or those around you in a helpful way

They are irrelevant, they are changing and most of all they are outside of your control.

Trying to control that which you have no directive over is literally impossible and a foolish man’s game.

All of man’s suffering comes from attempting to control that which is out of his hands

If you re within a negative environment

Start to visualise the outside circumstances as a blessing; -This environment is a test from the universe to give me to the tools of mental resilience

This way you are motivated and excited to test yourself against the waves of negativity - it becomes an enjoyable challenge and one that if endured will leave you with a stronger mindset than if you’d just had complete support your whole life

Yesterday afternoon Georgia’s Senate panel hosted Rudy Giuliani for an evidential hearing regarding voter fraud in Georgia. The fake news won’t report the facts so it is up to us. Here were my key takeaways from the session.

The biggest piece of evidence was video footage that showed several suitcases being rolled out from under a table after poll watchers and media were told that vote counting was over and asked to leave. Clear evidence of significant fraud.

A Professor of Constitutional Law and member of 11th Circuit and Supreme Court Bar spoke about a lower than normal mail-in rejection rate of 0.33% in this election versus 6.4% in the 2016 election despite having twice the number of mail-in ballots.

Normalizing for this, 40k votes were counted that shouldn’t have been. More critical perhaps, was the view that the consent decree signed by Georgia’s Secretary of State violates the statutory scheme and permits the legislature to invalidate the entire election.

A change to the underage registration window to allow 16 yr olds to register 6 months earlier than normal also violates the constitution and allows the legislature to step in. Some 66k underage votes were counted in this election that shouldn’t have been counted under state law.

What I learned from raising my first seed round.

This isn’t a how-to guide, that may come later. This is just a story and observations from my own experience.

See, I didn’t know what I was doing at all...

We had a built a prototype, people seemed to like it. Investors seemed to like it. Not because I showed it to them, I wouldn’t know how to do that.

But I got a lot of inbound asking about the product and found myself stumbling into meetings with people with no real goal.

We decided it was time to raise and I had to figure out how to do that.

I’m not from SF. I’m from small town Missouri. I didn’t have connections.

But I did spend a lot of time making internet friends. It’s what I’ve done my whole life. In particular friends in @genzmafia

It was here I had some help from @nhuebecker on the first pitch deck I ever made. It went a long way btw - Thanks nick!

And met a lot of connected people thanks to @ItzSuds. He also got me on clubhouse.

In there I started talking to people and met @YousifAstar

Yousif taught me the game. I cannot stress this enough he taught me everything. Pitching, materials, intros, down to the verbiage of my emails.

He taught me how to be intentional with raising instead of stumbling into meetings.

I blocked off two weeks and got started.

Most European cities date back to the Middle Ages if not Antiquity, and have an imperial coat of arms. This one's Amsterdam's. What you see in the middle column are not 3 letters but 3 crosses, Saint Andrew's Crosses or saltiers to be precise.

The reason St. Andrew's Cross looks like that is because the saint was martyred on an X-shaped cross, instead of the more familiar + kind. He was one of the apostles of early Christianity and was crucified by the Romans for heresy.

The reason this particular cross features on the city's coat of arms is because the apostle in question was a fisherman. And Amsterdam was founded as a fishing village back in 1505. St. Andrew is the most natural patron saint of fishermen around the world.

Being the official municipal herald, this coat of arms appears all over Amsterdam. Take the city hall building (officially, the Stopera), for instance.

Or this heritage building, certainly older than 1947 as it didn't include the motto (Heldhaftig, Vastberaden, Barmhartig). The motto was added only in 1947 by Queen Wilhelmina to honor the bravery and compassion shown by the city during the General Strike of 1941.

How To Have An Amazing First Meeting (thread).

Learning how to hold amazing first meetings with prospective clients is the single most important "sales" skill a real financial planner can learn.

Here's what I've noticed is important.

Start with getting your head straight.

All the tips and tricks in the world are just hacks without the right mindset.

There are 3 shifts to make:

Mindset 1:

Desperate ---> Confident

No one wants to work with a desperate advisor. The purpose of a great first meeting is for the prospect AND YOU to decide if it's a good fit.

Believe that and it will change the way you think, feel, and act.

Mindset 2:

Salesperson ---> Doctor

I love sales...but the purpose of the first meeting is NOT SALES. It's understanding. You CANNOT write a prescription before you diagnose.

Mindset 3:

Numbers ---> Feelings

You might think you're in the spreadsheet and calculator business, and maybe you are...but you're also in the feelings business.

People need to be heard in the first meeting. Make room for that. Plan on it. Create it.

Angry Letter To The Nigerian Youth (2)- There Is Opportunity In Adversity

My dear Nigerian Youth,

I'm still on your case. I'm not about to relent so soon because you represent immense potential and you sit on a gold mine yet you know it not.

You account for at least 43 percent of Nigeria's population. You are over 72 million strong. Unfortunately, what is a blessing is turning to be a curse. Your situation brings a scripture to mind: man that is in honour, and understands not, is like the beasts that perish.

You still wonder why I'm miffed? I sat across one of you- a young lady- today and listened to her tale. She had spent 2 years living in Dubai and slaved away for a real estate company. After 2 years, she's back to Nigeria- broken and penniless.

She regaled me with stories of how more than 75 percent of her income went to rent and she couldn't even afford a decent accommodation. She had to 'collabo' with two other ladies to rent a studio apartment. But now she couldn't stay in Nigeria anymore.

She complained so much about the road and heat that I wondered if she was born in Dubai! She also complained of lack of capital when I asked why she couldn't settle down to do something in Nigeria. I told her no one has 'capital' problems but what people have is 'idea' problem.

Torn between "I think losing $100 million when someone beats you at security research is pretty much exactly what you signed up for doing yield farming" and "Maaaaaaaybe not the future of finance you were expecting, huh."

How to put this in regular finance terms...

Suppose hypothetically you have an account at a brokerage with some valuable asset in it. You take a margin loan against that asset to fund your normal spending, or pay a tax bill, or maybe buy something at another brokerage.

For reasons known only to the brokerage, they don't denominate your loan in dollars. They denominate it in shares of a money market fund, which are worth $1 +/- epsilon and basically never deviate from that.

And you think "Hmm, I have a large equity cushion against this loan."

One day, a computer system at the brokerage reports, sorta-kinda erroneously, that the value of the money market fund is actually $1.30 per share. The equity cushion is gone. Your valuable asset is sold, at timing you didn't choose, at wrong price, to pay an inflated phantom debt

And your recourse is... probably tweeting at patio11 saying he finds too much joy in this.

Which I don't; I just feel like this is why you don't trust a CPU built out of redstone to build reliable financial infrastructure on top of.

This is the first of what will (hopefully) be a limited number of #Kraken-related threads.

We've got two filings so far - a Michigan one (King v Whitmer) that has been filed, and a Georgia one (Pearson v Kemp) that cannot presently be located on PACER.

After all the recent online events/conventions, I realised that there are a lot of people who don't understand how to maximise their promotion potential, so here's a quick, basic thread on how to do that!! 1/13

1. POST YOUR LINKS EVERYWHERE. People are lazy and want to do things as easily as possible. Put your shop/website/patreon link in your Twitter bio, in your pinned tweet, in your IG bio, make links easy to find on your site, put your links everywhere, please oh my god. 2/13

If you're making a post talking about your shop, put a link to your shop in the tweet (or in the tweet below if you're worried about algorithms). Say "shop link below!". Make it as easy as possible to find your shop! The majority of people will not go looking for the link!! 3/13

2. POST YOUR EMAIL EVERYWHERE. Someone looking to hire you isn't always going to want to DM you, and if they can't easily find a way to contact you, they'll just skip you. Put it in your bio!! Put it in your pinned tweet!!! Put it in the header of your website!!! 4/13

3. Related: make a website. If you don't want to make a portfolio website, then make an Instagram or Tumblr where your work is clearly on display. People are lazy. People don't want to scroll through memes to find your work to see if they want to hire you or buy from you. 5/13

This "bitcoin is better than gold" statement going around once more show that bitcoiners have no clue about monetary history and what the purpose of a monetary system is. A thread.

1- Metal standards were never inflexible; they could not in order to operate properly. Qty of metal was changed, usually lowered, to accommodate for changing economic conditions: price of metal, scarcity of coins, financial needs of economic units (state and private), etc.

2- The purpose of a monetary system is to make the rest of the economy go. It is there to accommodate financial needs. The more elastic one can design the supply, the better.
That doesn't mean that monetary creation & destruction shouldn't follow any rules & have no constraint.

3- Rules and constraint impose depend on economic system and evolve over time has we learn how to manage better the system. In a capitalist economy, the private sector is subject to the profitability constraint. We have learned from experience that this is not enough.

3 (ii) Financial stability requires a "hedge finance" constraint for most private agents: profitability should be judged on income gains, not capital gains.
In the government sector, the constraints are ressource availability and political constraints.
