Sometimes in October, I received a call from a former client who had been out of the country for almost a year.

He is not a Nigerian but had just secured an appointment with a company. His first statement was “Bayo, I need to pick your brain on this because with you I know where I stand. I know you’ll not deceive me”.

After our discussion, he told me he had already informed his Chairman that their banking relationship had to come to me. I’ve signed it on since.

I’ve had cause to reflect over his statement many times since then. Here was a man whom sometimes I had very difficult conversations with. I’ve had to tell him no when I knew his requests were not possible. Sometimes, the relationship was stormy.

I never fail to tell my colleagues that the major currency for transaction is integrity and this will only be sustained in an atmosphere of trust. Never lie to customers in order to make a sale.

The Biggest problem with the Jim Dore / Ryan Knight crowd is they don’t know what they are talking about

They frame the best of anything as the most LEFT and a lot of governing is complex and have layers

Just so you know- I spend a lot of time with grassroots movements even know.

And the online grassroots movements don’t resemble the actual grassroots movements

There are not a lot of Green Activist pushing for the Green New Deal or Immigration Activist to Abolish Ice

People who regularly sue and represent cases against the Police are some of the most vocal against using “ Defund the Police”

Health consumers ( those who use the system a lot ) are the least likely to like a 100% government run system.

They can expertly point out the flaws w/ tricare Medicare and Medicaid

There is a serious and consequential disconnect with activist in real life and those ones on line

@tbroyer If you are wearing a mask you should replace your mask with a clean one after every cough into it. Should you wear a mask is a different question. Masks saturate with water sufficiently to create microdroplets long before they feel wet or damp, perhaps within 5 min.

Now what happens next depends on different factors:
if you are not infected, any viral droplets that your mask catches will now be turned into microdroplets that you are repeatedly inhaling... increasing your risk of infection... but droplets evaporate fast

It’s typically sub-millisecond in dry (ie indoor) air to get down to ~100nm (ie basically just one virus and a mono layer of water) which your mask will likely not catch anyway... so the mask does not protect you

Now the counter case, if you are infected:
1. If symptomatic, STOP! stay home and isolate.
2. If pre-symptomatic/ asymptomatic the question is are you breathing out the virus with your normal breathing. If no => masks useless. If yes... we’ll the studies are not done

Stuff like the JAMA meta analysis and the Chinese Wuhan study says it’s unlikely that you are spreading the virus, suggesting masks are useless. On the counter, if you wear cloth mask for more than ~5-10min you are now spreading the virus more, mask would be worse

Chennakeshava Temple, Somanathapura, Karnataka.

This temple, not to be confused with the Belur Chennakeshava temple, was built during the Hoysala period by a Hoysala general named Dandanayaka Somanatha. The temple dedicated to lord Vishnu was consecrated in 1258.

Dandanayaka Somanatha established a village named Somanathapura on the banks of river Kaveri. He sought the permission of King Narasimha III, to begin construction of a grand temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu that would also showcase the might of Hoysalas.(1)

The temple rests on a high star shaped platform (jagati) with 3 sanctums (garbha griha) making it a trikuta, set in a square matrix oriented along the east west and north south axes.(2)

The western sanctum is dedicated to Kesava, the northern sanctum to Janardhana and the southern sanctum to Venugopala, all are forms of lord Vishnu.(3)

The sanctums share a common community hall (sabha mandapa) with many pillars. Above each of these sanctums rise the 16 pointed star shaped tower called vimana or shikara.(4)

Why does online learning not work, the younger the child is, & less supported at home?

Teacher cannot

1. Check for understanding
2. Hold child to account.

Parent has to get child to focus, check the learning & do what the teacher normally does in the classroom 1/10 THREAD 👇🏼

It works well with highly motivated Sixth Formers.

They are mature and ambitious enough to make use of the teacher’s knowledge to further their own ambitions.

But even at Sixth Form it cannot work with kids who need teacher to do what teachers normally do! 2/10

What do teachers do in classrooms?

They don’t just lecture! Not if they are good teachers.

They constantly pepper questions to check for understanding.

They test knowledge retention to judge whether something needs reteaching.

This cannot be done on Zoom. 3/10

Why can’t it be done on Zoom?

Kids have answers in front of them. So teacher can’t test.

With a challenging intake, audio from kids undermines teacher’s authority and allows one child to derail entire lesson.

Kids turn off video and then disappear- not hearing a word! 4/10

Why do we think it can be done on Zoom?

1. We mistakenly think kids are like adults and can lead their own learning & behaviour. They can’t.

2. We imagine parents are able to support at home. Many cannot, won’t, do not know how

3. We want to believe there is a solution. 5/10

A children's book written in 1954 inspired by Wiener's Cybernetics that explains some common day analog systems:

Analog computation originally meant the construction of a simulation of another system by means of a mechanical or electrical system that represented the same dynamics as the physical system. That is an analog of what's being simulated.

Nobert Wiener generalized this idea in Cybernetics to describe control systems that through negative feedback promoted stability.

W.Ross Ashby argued that negative feedback was insufficient for maintaining the stability (homeostasis) of complex system. Ashby proposed the Law of Requisite Variety.

These machines that 'seem to think' are examples of what was known as analog computation. Cybernetics, control theory, biology are examples of analog computation. But what does this mean other than being the opposite of discrete/digital computation?

The excellent @Englands_NE tells us that the River Team begins as a collection of streams near Tanfield in NW Durham – a name which originally meant ‘Team Field’. Team is an ancient name, meaning ‘dark river’ with the same root as the name of the Thames.

- Decided to expand my team, whenever my income allowed me to.
- Make. Money. First.
Don't just rely on YouTube income or brands for money. You may also provide SERVICES to fans.

But in the long term, BIG money will come from brands.

Therefore accumulate numbers and create your own niche.

How to get numbers?
- Entertain or Educate or Motivate

- Create videos/pieces that address people's most common questions/thoughts about the niche you've chosen.

As you grow through your base strategy of video creation (could be YT, IG Reels or even LinkedIn Video)...

You can further community loyalty through sharing pieces of your personal story. How?

- Captions that expose your mindset.
