The word ghoongat is derived from the Sanskrit word рдЕрд╡рдЧреБрдгреНрдарди which essentially means to conceal or cover. Most prominent Sanskrit dictionaries agree upon this part. Popularly, ghoongat is a piece of cloth that covers the head and the face.
The custom of covering one's face with the loose end of the saree or the dupatta is a practice that is observed is some parts of the country. But no Shastras call this a compulsory practice or a religious duty.
Manusmriti which talks about all the aspects of life has nowhere mentioned that a women, when she steps out, should be veiled. In fact Manusmriti advices men to remain cautious when is company of females and to always keep their guard up.
Moving on, in Ramayana when Shri Ram had started off from Ayodhya for vanwas, there is a description of how he could see his parents following him with agitated expression. There is no mention of a veil covering Mata Kausalya.
When Maharaj Dasharath invited Rishyashringa and his wife to perform Yaj├▒a, the description of Shanta, no where mentions that she was veiled.

These three verses are often citied to show misogyny in Manusmriti. That's certainly not the case.

is Vichara sarman.He was born in the village Seinganur on the banks of River Manni.
His Parent names were Yajna Thatan and Pavithrai.
Vichara Sarmar was gifted child and he learnt the Vedas and agamas at a very young age.
He was very devout and would always think about Bhagwan Shiva.
One day he saw a cowherd brutally assaulting a cow,Vichara Sarmar could not tolerate this. He spoke to cowherd: тАШDo you not know that the cow is worshipful and divine? All gods & devas reside in https://t.co/ElLcI5ppsK it is our duty to protect cows,not to harm them.
He was very angry on seeing the rude behaviour of the cowherd, Vichara sarma took up the duty of tending the cows himself.From that day onwards,the cows looked happier and yielded more milk.Cows grew healthier due to care showered by him on them.
His bhakti for Bhagwan Shiva elevated him as one of foremost among 64 Nayanmars.
