Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, located in Kanchipuram is one among 7 Mukti Sthalas in India. The 7 Mukti Sthal are :

अयोध्या मथुरा माया काशी कांची अवंतिका।
पुरी द्वारावती चैव सप्तैता मोक्षदायिकाः॥

Kashi, Haridwar (Maya),

Ayodhya, Ujjain (Avantika), Mathura, Dwaraka. Kanchi Kamakshi Amman is Mukti Sthala of South.

Temple is one among 51 Shakti Peetha. It is believed that Nabhi or Navel of Sati Devi  fell here
Sthala puranam says that Kamakshi amman did tapasya here on Panchagni to marry Mahadeva

Ka means Saraswathi Devi, Ma means Lakshmi Devi and Akshi means eyes. Thus Kamakshi means who have  Saraswathi and Lakshmi as her two eyes.
Kanchi Kamakshi Amman is sitting as   Padmasana here, holding Sugarcane, Lotus, and Parrot. Aadi Sankaracharya did Prathishta of Sri Chakra

to reduce the raudra roopam of Devi to karunya roopa. It is believed that the four walls of the Garbhagriham represent four Vedas. The place where Devi resides is Gayatri Mandapam.

AHOBILAM NARASIMHA SWAMY KSHETRAM: KURNOOL (AP)

Ahobilam is the place where Prabhu appears in his fierce form, called Ugra Narasimha, who is Svayambhu (self-manifest).
Ahobilam is one of the 108 Divya Desams. It has 9 shrines for different forms of Narsimha.

Ahobilam was the exact place where Sri Narasimha appeared and tore apart Hiranyakashipu to save Prahlad. At that moment, all the Devas appeared and praised him as Ahobala (Aho is mighty and bala is strength). So the place came to be called Ahobilam.

Out of the 9 shrines, most famous is the Ahobila Narasimha Swamy where Prabhu is seen as Ugra Narasimha.
In another shrine, Prabhu appears as Malola Narasimha Swamy. Malola means beloved of Lakshmi. Here Prabhu is in peaceful mudra with his consort Ma ChenchuLakshmi.

Jwala Narasimha Swamy shrine is the actual spot where the fierce anger of Prabhu reached its culmination when he tore Hiranyakasipu.

Ugra Stambham is the pillar from which Narasimha appeared with such force that the entire hill split into two.

You can clearly see "Ashtkon"(eight edged) Piller which has been a part of Ancient Architecture.

Karadayan Nonbu / Savitri Vratham is a festival of fasting where married women will pray for the wellness and long life of their husband. Nonbu should be done exactly the time when tamil month Masi ends and the next month Panguni starts.

The reason of fasting is remembered out from Savithri who fought with Yema deva to save her husband’s life.
Savitri through her unparalleled devotion saved her husband Satyavan, from the Yama Dharma Raja.
On this day women takes fast and prays to Gauri Devi for the long life of

their husband. They wear a Nombu charadu( yellow thread) during the time and breaks fast by having the adai, a dish prepared using rice flour and jaggery.

It is believed that Savitri cooked such a dish and offered it to Yama Deva along with unmelted butter as an offering

Hasta Uttanasana, the standing forward bend position, is a component of the Sun Salutation series of asanas. It appears because of the 2nd pose and the 11th pose within the Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskara. It particular is employed in yoga practice to warm up and strengthen

the spine. Further, to open up the chest and heart to permit for deep, full breaths. Procedure of Hasta Uttanasana:
• Stand erect and lift both hands above the top.
• Let there be shoulders length between the arms.
• Bend the trunk and head backward to make a slight curve.

• Raising the arms and bending the torso back is finished at a similar time.
• take a breath deep while raising the arms.
• When done as a part of the Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation exercises), you will chant a mantra while performing this asana.

• Hasta Uttanasana is encountered as the 2nd pose and also the 11th pose. The mantra to be chanted, given below:
During the 2nd posture, carry on chanting “Om Ravaye Namaha.” It means salutations to the shining one.
During 11th pose chant “Om Arkaya Namaha”.

It means salutation to the one who deserves praise.

SHIVRATRI VRAT & Importanacre of Belpatra:-

Actually there are twelve Shivratri's in one calendar year. As per shastras the Chaturdeshi tithi of every krishnpaksh is Shivratri. But the one falling in the month of Magh is the most auspicious.

The devotees usually fast the whole day and perform the ritualistic puja four times in the night.

As per Shivpuran once Brahma, Vishnu and Parvati asked Shiva about his favourite puja that made him the most happiest.

Shiva mentioned ten vrats,but his most favoured vrat was Shivratri. The rituals should be performed four times as mentioned in Shivpuran. You have to prepare a parthiv or mud lingam and establish (staphna it with the chanting of Panchakshar mantra of Om Namah Shivay.

Follow it up with the sixteen step(Shodshhopchar/ षोड्षोपचार) puja right from bathing, offerings of flowers, dhoop, deep and naivedya. This shivling has to be worshipped four times and at the end of the night, it has to submerged in river,tank or pond.

There is an elaborate mention of all the offerings to be made seperately with different items for four times in Shivpuran. In the earliest puja use of Panchamrit, Chandan, Rice, Black sesame, lotus, Red flower of Kaner should be offered with seperate mantra for each offering.

Peruvanam Mahadeva Kshetram is located in Peruvanam at Thrissur district. Temple is one among 108 Shiva temples of Kerala.

It is said that the temple was created by Pooru Maharshi, the son of King Yayathy, 👇

after his Tapasya to Paramashiva and thus the name Peruvanam was got from the word POORU VANAM. 

It is believed that Pooru Maharshi brought Shivalingam from Badarinath which got stuck in the branch of a tree here and the present Madathilappan Temple has been constructed at

this place.

Paramashiva is dual linga form here so Peruvanam Shiva Bhagwan is also called IRATTAYAPPAN. Irattayappan is Grama adipan of Peruvanam village.
Peruvanam Pooram, Shivarathri is main festival here.

ATHMANATHAR SWAMY KSHETRAM, TIRUPERUNTHURAI(TN)

Here Shiva is formless (Atmanatar). There is no Sivalingam, only a pedestal/Avudayar in the sanctum, so the name Avudayar Koil.
It is so built that setting sun strikes the sanctum even though it is cloistered in 3 pradakshina paths

In 9th c AD, Manikkavacakar, the chieftain of Arimarthana Pandian II, was sent to buy horses for the kingdom. On his way, he saw a guru chanting Shiva’s name. Manikkavacakar desired to be his student. He fell into a deep meditation. When he awakened, the guru was gone.

He realised that he was guided by Shiva himself and used the money meant for horses to build the Mandir.
Here, he composed the sacred Shaiva siddhanta “The Tiruvacakam” whose verses make up 8 volumes out of total 12 volumes in Shaivite literature.

Inside the sanctum is an upturned bowl or kuvalai, which represents the body and soul.
Ma Ambika is Yoga Nayika here. She too is formless and symbolised by Yoga ‘Peetham’ or pedestal on which her footprint is carved out. Rice cakes are kept under the bowl as an offering to her.

As Shiva was himself the Guru of Sri Manickavasagar, worshippers visit here to pray for their education and progress.

It is believed that treating Sri Manickavasagar different from Shiva is an unforgivable sin.

The Chariot in the Mandir is one of the biggest in Tamil Nadu.

First temple is Thirumalai Mahadevar Temple,Munchirai
During the run,they take holy dips in temple tanks.

Devotees who cover the distance by foot observe Vriddham for a week.During fasting they eat tender coconut,Nungu &Tulsi water.Those who cannot run this distance,visit all 12 temples in vehicles.
After darshan in Thirumalai temple,they go to 2nd temple Tikkurichi Mahadeva Temple.

Followed by darshan at Thirunandikarai Shiva Temple,Ponmanai Thimbilankudi Mahadevar Temple,Thiruppanri Bhagam Shiva Temple,Kalkulam Neelakanda Mahadevar Temple, Melangode Shiva Temple, Thiruvidaikodu Mahadevar Temple.Lastly to Thirunattalam Sankara Narayan Temple.

All these shiva temples,have separate sannathi for Vishnu.
Interestingly,in each of these temples,prasad is Vibuthi or bhasma & at Thirunattalam Sankara Narayan Temple the prasad is sandal paste/Chandan symbolic of unity of Shiva &Vishnu.

NAGARAJA MANDIR, NAGERCOIL (TN)

Dedicated to Naag Devta Vasuki. The five-headed Naga Devta is visited by devotees, especially on Sundays when special Pooja is performed offering milk and turmeric to the deity.

Once a village girl was cutting grass in the area when she noticed blood oozing out of her axe after accidentally hitting a stone. It was the stone murti of Naga devta. A hut was built around it. Later Raja Marthanda Verma visited here when he was suffering from skin problems.

His disease was cured and he built a huge mandir here.
The main sanctum still has mud walls and thatched roof with the stone murti of Nagaraja placed on the soil. The soil underneath it always remains wet. It is believed that blood is still oozing out of the murti till date.

It is said that this soil holds special powers and can cure any skin ailments; the soil is also given as prasadam to the visitors of the mandir.
Amazingly, the soil is black in dakshinayana punyakala and turns white in uttarayana punyakala of Surya.

A tortoise occupies the place (instead of Garuda) on the flagpost. This maybe because Garuda and Naga are natural enemies. Also, Sri Vishnu took kurma avatar during samudra manthan. Image of tortoise maybe to show respect to kurma avatar.

Nagalinga flowers also bloom here.

Mandir dating back to Pallava period. Dedicated to Murugan. After vanquishing Soorapadman at Tiruchendur, Skanda destroyed the rest of the Rakshasas here at Tirupporur ('place of the sacred war').

Sthalapurana says that here, Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devayanai granted protection to devas and expounded the meaning of Pranava to Agastya Muni.

Skanda worshipped Shiva as Vanmeekeswarar to rid himself of the sin of having killed Soorapadman.

The founding guru of Thiruporur was Srimad Chidambaraswamy who was an ardent worshipper of "Madurai Meenakshi Amman". In a vision, Devi bade him to build a mandir for Sri Muruga at Thiruporur. He unearthed the Swayambu murtis of Muruga with his consorts and established the Mandir

The swayambhu murti of Muruga is in the form of a palmyra tree. Beneath it is the murti of Muruga in Brahmasasta form with his consorts on both sides. It is said that the small murtis were made by Chidambaram Swamigal for performing abhisheka and aradhana.
