Srikanteshwara Temple or
Nanjundeshwara Temple is a famous Shiva Temple located in Karnataka at the bank of river  Kapila. Temple is also called Varanasi of South. Nanjunda means one who has consumed poison.

Story is  related to the Samudra Mathanam when Paramashiva had to consume halahala.

Parashurama worshipped Mahadeva here to relieve himself from the curse of Mathru Hatya. While clearing the place to do poojas Parashurama's  axe hit the Shivalingam and it began bleeding, that

mark is still visible even today. Thus
it is also believed that Parashurama did Shiva Prathishta here

Sthala Puranam says that, once there was a demon named Keshi who disturbed the people in the area, after  getting blessing from Brahma Deva  and Mahavishnu. Mahadeva appeared

here and killed demon Keshi and blessed this place as Papa Vinashini. Whoever praying to Srikanteshwara or Nanjundeshwara, after bathing in the  Kabini River will be relieved from all sins.

DODDA GANAPATHI, BENGALURU

Dodda in Kannada means big. Sri Ganesha here is 18 ft tall in height and 16 ft wide. Dodda Ganesha is also known as Shakthi Ganapathi and Satya Ganapathi.

It is said that Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, saw a rock here.

The rock had engravings of Ganesha. His sculptors cut the Ganesha murti from that single rock. Later, a shrine was built around the Ganesh murti.

It is believed that Dodda Ganapathi is the protector of Bengaluru. All auspicious events start by praying to Him.

Benne Alankara is the most famous festival here when about 100 kg of butter is coated over Ganapathi every four years and the rich prasad is offered to the worshippers.

Ganesha is also covered in cream colour and is decorated with golden laces and buttons

The weavers from old Bengaluru tie a coconut to their looms before starting work. When the work is completed, they break 100 coconuts here along with the one tied on the loom.

SUYA ONE OF THE GREATEST ENGINEERS OF KASHMIR- A MUST READ

Sopore, is known as Suyyapur (named after this great engineer) . It is a town in Baramulla district of J&K

For centuries the people of the valley had been suffering from the recurring curse of famines and floods.

Suya correctly assessed that these frequent calamities occurred due to heavy rains and excessive water of the Vitasta River which could not easily get out with swiftness, through a gorge near Varahmula, as the compressed passage there bad got blocked with silt and huge boulders.

The people removed both the silt and stones when the great engineer threw plenty of gold and silver coins into the river at many places.

Thousands of people immediately jumped into the flooded Vitasta and in order to find the coins cleared the bed of the rocks and boulders which had choked up the passage. Suya, then raised stone embankments, and adopted other protective measures.

Many canals were dug-out to increase the irrigational facilities. The result of all these measures was that a great increase of land became available for cultivation.

THE ORIGIN OF SHIVA SUTRAS

In the valley of Kashmir from 860-925 AD, lived Vasugupta. He was recognized as an enlightened master, and a man who possessed superior knowledge and wisdom.

Fully God-realized, he was filled with a tremendous purity of heart and was intensely devoted to the Lord Shiva, the Supreme Maheshvara. One night Lord Shiva infused a dream into Vasugupta’s consciousness for the purpose of restoring those secret teachings that

had been lost to the world even in Vasugupta’s time. The dream revealed the existence of a large special rock at the foot of Mahadeva Mountain.

Shiva told Vasugupta to go that rock and lift it, for underneath a great esoteric teaching would be found inscribed into it.

Vasugupta awoke and set off to search for this sacred rock. Upon finding the rock nestled on the side of a small stream, he touched it and the mere touch of his hand caused the huge rock to at once turn over - and written on it there underneath were the Shiva Sutras.

He was filled with wonder and joy. He began to study these sutras and over time absorbed them and shared them with his best students, always remembering that in the dream Shiva had cautioned him to reveal them only to those who are fit for grace. So it was then, so it is now.

Bhu Varaha Swamy Temple

Bhu Varaha Swamy temple is a Hindu temple, located at Srimushnam, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture...

the temple is dedicated to Varaha (Bhu Varaha Swamy), the boar-avatar of the god Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi as Ambujavalli Thayar.

The temple had contributions from Medieval Cholas of the 10th century with later expansions by Thanjavur Nayak king Achuthappa Nayak.

A granite wall surrounds the temple, enclosing all the shrines and the temple tanks. There is a seven-tieredrajagopuram, the temple’s gateway tower.

Six daily rituals and three yearly festivals are held at the temple, of which the Chariot festival....

celebrated during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (April–May), being the most prominent. The festival also symbolises Hindu-Muslim unity in the region – the flag of the chariot is provided by Muslims; they take offerings from the temple and present to Allah in the mosques.

In Hinduism, there are few topics which can fascinate even an atheist. Kundalini is one of them.

Kundalini is the latent Shakti sleeping near the Muladhara region (bottom of the spinal cords).

Two fingers above the rectum and two fingers below the linga , four fingers in width is a space like a bulbous root.

Between this space is the yoni having its face towards the back.That space is called the root;there dwells the Goddess Kundalini.

It surrounds all the nadis and has three coils and a half;and catching its tail in its own mouth,it rests in the hole of the Sushumna(nadi).

Significance-

Chandogya Upanishad 8.6.6 and Katha Upanishad  2.16 says:

यदा सर्वे प्रभिद्यन्ते हृदयस्येह ग्रन्थयः ।
अथ मर्त्योऽमृतो भवत्येतावद्ध्यनुशासनम् ॥

शतं चैका च हृदयस्य नाड्य-
    स्तासां मूर्धानमभिनिःसृतैका ।
तयोर्ध्वमायन्नमृतत्वमेति
    विष्वङ्ङन्या उत्क्रमणे भवन्ति ॥

When all the knots of Hridaya Granthi are cut down, mortal becomes an immortal & attains Brahman there. There are 101 Nadis which emerge from heart, one Nadi goes out piercing the head. Going up through that, one attains immortality; the others serve for departing in diiff. ways.

Amusing to see western band playing along with Nadhaswaram, tavil. (Absolutely no sync 😅). Anyway, the festive spirit is on. I hope they follow all protocols. In a normal world, temple would have been full by this time.

An interesting thing is, I saw a guy holding #SaveTNTemples poster outside , written in Tamil. A lot of people did get curious and wanted to know more. Unfortunately couldn't click as I had flowers in hand. I hope to see him again in the next 10 days.

The presiding Devi of Mangalore, from whom the city has got its name.

In 10th C, when King Kundaverma of Alupa dynasty ruled over Tulanadu, two Rishis-Machhendranatha and Gorakanatha visited him.

They requested him to grant them land so that they could build their hermitage and make it a centre of their religious activities under his patronage.
They also told him about a place where Parashurama had prayed to Mangala Devi and built a shrine.

When the place was excavated under their guidance, the shrine of Mangaladevi was found. It was, then, re-established by Kundaverma.

It is said that unmarried women who worship Mangaladevi by observing Mangaladharavrata ( Swayamvara Parvathi) get a suitable match soon.

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is located in Samayapuram of
 Tiruchirappalli district.  Mariyamman here is worshipped as Samayapurathal a form of Parashakti.
Amman vigraham here is made of sand and clay so

no abhishekam done to the main vigraham. Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is one of the famous Shakthi Sthal of Tamilnadu.

Story says that paramashiva created Kali, out of the poison that he drank during samudra mathanam.  As Devi originated from the Kaalakoota/ halahala poison,

thus the name Kaali. Mariamman is believed to be a form of Kaali, and is also known as Mahamayi. It is also believed that Maharaja Dasharatha offered his prayers here.

Mariamman is Parashakti herself who blesses with prosperity and she is believed to cure all diseases.

Paramashiva, Mahavishnu and Brahma Deva are believed to have taken blessings of Mariamman here.

According to Adhi Parva in Mahabharata, Guru Dronacharya (Drona means pot, Acharya means Scholar) was not born in a womb of a woman but he was born in a Drona, a pot made up of sand when Rishi Bhardwaj stored his semen in a pot and kept it in his ashram. After a while,

Dronacharya was born. That's why Drona has no mother in Mahabharat. This can be considered as a reference to a similar technique like the use of cloning, test-tube, or artificial womb used today in the modern world. Similarly, the test-tube technique can be stated on the birth

of Kauravas. Rishi Dwaipayan(Ved Vyasa) gave a boon to Gandhari that she would be blessed with 100 sons equal in might to her lord and accomplishments. Gandhari's pregnancy went on for two years without any sign of delivery. Hearing of the birth of five divine-looking sons of

Kunti, Gandhari became furious with her condition and hit her abdomen hard. Soon after, she delivered not even one son, but a hard lump of mass which horrified everyone. Gandhari went to Dwaipayana and complained about the lump of mass, and doubted the rishi's boon, to which

Dwaipayana affirmed he had never spoken a lie even in jest. He then asked Gandhari to cut the lump of mass into 100 pieces and place it in 100 different pots filled with clarified butter and wait. On Gandhari's request of a daughter, the pieces were cut into 101.

Yesterday, I wrote about how He gave aBaya to Vibishana without questioning.

This is an instance where He cares for their wellbeing.

Rama and his team of vAnarAs have reached Lanka and are in discussions. Similarly, Ravana and his ministers 2

are inspecting their opponents and evaluating their strengths and weaknesses.

Upon seeing Ravana, Sugriva who has become a devout bhakta of Rama, cannot bear the sight of someone who has kidnapped Sita causing immense anguish to his swami (Rama). 3

He leaps in the sky, reaches Ravana and wrestles with him fiercely, causing immense embarrassment in front of his ministers, grabs his crown and places it at Rama’s feet.

Meanwhile, Rama became so concerned as He couldn’t find Sugriva and becomes happy once he’s back.4

#THREAD 🌺Kumbakonam Sri Sarangapani Temple- Hanuman Vahanam..!

1.Sarangapani Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India.

2. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars. This temple is along Kaveri and is one of the Pancharanga Kshetrams.

3.The temple is believed to be of significant antiquity with contributions at different times from Medieval Cholas, Vijayanagar Empire and Madurai Nayaks. The temple is enshrined within a huge granite wall and the complex contains all the shrines & the water bodies of the temple.

4.The rajagopuram (the main gateway) has eleven tiers and has a height of 173 ft. The Potramarai tank, the temple tank, is located opposite to the western entrance of the temple.

5.Sarangapani is believed to have appeared for sage Hemarishi. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and twelve yearly festivals on its calendar.

Mata Sati, the daughter of King Daksha (one of the ten Manas Putra of Brahma), fell in love with Lord Shiva and wanted to marry him. However, King Daksha Prajapati was against this marriage. He considered Lord Shiva as an Aghori and denied accepting him as a god.

Even after King Daksha refused to marry her daughter with Lord Shiva, Sati Mata married him. In his anger, King Daksha disowned Sati Mata. Once King Daksha decided to conduct a maha Yagna in his kingdom and invited all the gods and goddesses except Lord Shiva. Further, when Sati

Mata knows about the Yagna and the invitations, she was angry and thought it was disrespectful to her husband. Sati Mata went to the venue where the Maha Yagna was going on. She was furious and wanted King Daksha to answer her questions. King Daksha disrespected her in front of

everyone present there. Sati Mata, in her grief, requested Lord Agni to burn her alive. Lord Agni clarified by saying he was incapable of burning Sati Mata (Shakti). Moreover, Agni Dev added that Shakti resides in Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, and Lord Vishnu. Even if he would try,

he was incapable of burning her. Sati Mata of her grievance created her fire from within and burned herself. Lord Shiva was unable to bear the loss of her beloved wife and punished King Daksha. Later, he carried the dead body of Sati Mata on his shoulder for years.

Velimalai Kumaraswamy Temple is a Murugan temple located in Kanyakumari District of Tamilnadu.

Muruga faces east and is said to be facing Sthanumalayan (Paramashiva) of Suchindram. Muruga is of

eight feet vigraham and Valli thayar is six feet tall. Eventhough Thiruthani is believed to be the place where Subrahmanya married Valli, it is also believed that Valli’s thayar's marriage took place with Murugan here.
