1/ What is a commodity supercycle?

They are near decade long periods where commodities trade well above their price trend

supercycles are rare

Going back 100 years, Only 3-4 supercycles have been identified & each was tied to a transformational period of economic development.

2/ A one-two year rally in commodity prices is NOT a supercycle, rather could just a rebound from an imp. event as what even happened after the 2008 great recession.

3/ Two commodity supercycles have occurred since the end of World War II.

The 1st started in the mid of 1960s & lasted through the 1970s.

Likely driven by a collapsing US dollar, higher inflation & 2 oil price shocks.

4/ Why US dollar is an important monitorable?

Raw materials are almost always priced in US dollars.

When the value of the dollar drops, it costs more dollars to buy commodities. At the same time, it costs a lesser amount of other currencies when the dollar is moving lower.

1 - Start by coming up with a portfolio allocation strategy based on your aims and objectives for investing. Include flexibility, tracking and rebalancing as part of your strategy.

2 - Learn from those who succeeded before you to ultimately develop your own investing style

Here are three books that influence @Gautam__Baid's investing style - They are some of the best books in investing along with Gautam's The Joys of Compounding.

3 - Develop a robust repository of sources from which you can generate investment ideas.

It is a super-comprehensive list.

4 - Focus on the process as opposed to the outcomes. This is very important.

Developing a superior process leads to the repeatability of exceptional outcomes.

I see a trend on SM of retail investors trying to copy stock ideas of those whom they view as knowledgeable investors. Please DO NOT do this. Do your own research & build/follow your own process. Buying a business on borrowed conviction is a terrible idea. 1/n

If you’re lucky, you’ll end up copying someone like @ishmohit1 or @itsTarH who are open about their thesis/anti-thesis pointers and entry & exit from a position. If you’re unlucky you might end getting manipulated or left with outdated info about someone’s invested position. 2/n

Either way, u cannot clone someone’s conviction, which is why you’ll never get their results. Better 2 make modest returns with conviction based on ur own research, instead of trying to clone others. Network, share ideas, data & views. But say NO 2 copy-pasting stock ideas. 3/n

If you respect & r impressed by someone, please study their process. Copy the parts that work for you. In the end, you get the results that you’ve earned. Taking the lazy approach of बस stock बता दो will never make you wealthy. Invest in yourself & the results will follow 4/n

when a stock you own becomes expensive, you rationalize holding on by calling it a compounder. base rate says v v few stocks are real compounders , rest are just pigs with lipstick.
