Happy Hayagreeva Jayanthi to everyone.

According to The Shakthi Purana (A Purana dedicated for Parvati Devi), Bhagawan Hayagreeva was occupied with a different role.

Hayagreeva means Horse Neck.

There was a demon called Hayagreev, son of the Sage Kashyapa and Danu. He did a severe penance for many years and received a boon from Durga Maa that he can be killed by another Hayagreev alone.

The demon started attacking Devas as he was considered as an invincible.

The Devas then approached Bhagawan Vishnu for help, Narayan agreed to help them.

Narayan fought with the demon Hayagreev but was unable to kill the demon.

Then Vishnu came back to his adobe, Vaikunth, for resting because he was much tired of the war. There he sat near a dham and did meditation in Padhamaasana posture. This rejuvanted Narayan.

Narayan did this Yoga in a different way. He kept his head above the bow's string.

Devas then again approached Narayan for help but they failed to rouse him from deep meditation. Then, they decided pull and release the string of the bow.

The thread about Lord Venkateshwara Perumal who borrowed money from Kuberan.

Lord borrowed money for his marriage with Maa Padmavati. The loan amount was about 1.4 Millions in Ramamudra coins.

The loan was given under the condition that the borrower must make an own promissory note all by himself.

This is the promissory note. The words in this note are dictated by Lord Brahma and Lord Venkateshwara wrote this by himself.

Following is the meaning of the text in promissory note : -

" This, the 7th day of the bright-fortnight of the month of Vyshaka in Kali Yug. The debtor is Lord Srinivasa, the creditor is Dhaneshwara. Purpose : Marriage of the loanee.

Amount of Loan fourteen lakhs in Ramamudra coins. The loanee should repay it with interest in one thousand years after the loanee’s marriage.”

Here, this one thousand years is mentioned in Deva Loka time and not in Bhuloka time.

Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva attested this note.

After accepting this note, Kubera paid the amount in Ramamudra coins.

Also, Lord Srinivasa requested Kubera to purchase and get all the articles and material required for the marriage.

A thread about Bhagawan Vishnu's celestial bow, Sharanga.

Sharanga is the celestial bow of Bhagawan Vishnu. This bow was crafted by Vishwakarma. He then gave this bow to Vishnu.

In South India, Sharanga is also called as The Kodhanda.

Vishnu is also called as Sharangapani. It means, the one who wields the Sharanga bow.

Among the 12 Alvars, Thirumangai Alvar is considered as the Divine Incarnation of The Sharanga Bow.

Vishnu used the Sharanga bow to defeat demons.

Once all the Gods asked Bhagawan Brahma that who is the powerful archer, either Vishnu or Shiva. Then, Brahma inferring the intent of Gods, he created a dispute between Shiva and Vishnu.

Then Vishnu and Shiva started fighting very angrily.

Both the Bhagawans started using their divine weapons Pinaka and Sharanga bows.

This fight created a huge impact in the balance of the Universe.

What does the word, "Chidabhasa" mean?

In Sanskrit, Chidabhasa translates to 'reflection of Brahman' or universal self. According to Hindu philosophy, the self can be divided into the individual (jiva) and the universal (brahman).

The reflection of the universal self within the individual is Chidabhasa, a kind of self-realisation, essential on the path toward enlightenment.

When one is stuck in the suffering of the gross, physical body (Annamaya Kosha), it is impossible to recognise the soul as a reflection of Brahman, leading to avidya, or ignorance.

A thread about Bhagawan Vishnu's Lotus.

Bhagawan Vishnu holds the lotus in his bottom left hand. It represents spiritual liberation, divine perfection, purity and the unfolding of Spiritual consciousness within the individual.

This Lotus is considered as the 6 transcendental powers, namely :-

1. Jnana - Spiritual knowledge
2. Shakthi - Power
3. Bala - Strength
4. Aishvarya - Wealth
5. Virya - Potency
6. Tejas - Splendour

Bhagawan Vishnu is often called as Padmanabhaswami. It means the person who owns(Swami) a navel(nabhi) which upholds a lotus(padm). From this Nabhi's lotus, Bhagawan Brahma was born. In Tamil, we used to call it as நாபிக்கமலம்( Nabhikkamalam).

The lotus is a symbol of creation. The energy which emanates from Vishnu’s navel, that is from the PARA mode of speech is depicted as a lotus.

What is Para?

Para is referred to as OMKAR or ADIBIJA( The Primal Seed). Para is the ultimate stage of the seeker practicing chanting.

This energy of creation is not derived from Vishnu alone but from the union of Vishnu and Lakshmi.

The lotus in Bhagawan Vishnu’s hand represents that He can endow the highest spiritual experience from the Path of Yoga.

Stories of Guruvayurappan
Shri Krishna Leela

This is a beautiful story of Guruvayurappan. Once there lived in Guruvayur a poor family. Kitta, his wife & kids were struggling for their daily needs. With only a coconut tree in house, he earned a living by selling coconuts.

Kitta was from a low caste family. He was a great devotee of Guruvayurappan. Everyday before going to work he always prayed infront of a picture of Guruvayurappan in his house. His only wish was to worship at Guruvayur & have annadanam in temple. But he was not allowed there

It was Utsavam time in Guruvayur. From far behind kitta and family worshipped Guruvayurappan. Annadanam was given daily and no one was left empty stomach. Only Kitta didn't receive. That night, it was only Kitta's family who was sleeping without food. After temple nada closed

Shri Krishna, dressed himself as a Brahmin went to temple Kitchen. He packed food and went directly to kitta's house. Reaching Kitta's house, Shri Krishna told he was sent by a cook of Guruvayur temple and gave them the food he packed. Kitta and family was very happy seeing food.

When Kitta finished his food, Brahmin asked it will be better if he get a tender coconut( karikku)to drink. Kitta climbed the tree and gave all coconuts to him. After having 1 tender coconut, the Brahmin asked to bring remaining coconuts to Guruvayur temple the next day.

'Treasure Gods' - Sangha Nidhi' and 'Padma Nidhi', Tirumala, Tirupati.

These are the two guards guarding the Wealth and Treasure of Lord Sri Venkateswara.

They are representatives of two treasures of Kubera, the God of Wealth.

One guard who is holding shangam (conch) on both the hands is known as Shanka Nidhi ('nidhi' means wealth).

On the other side, the guard who is holding Lotus flowers on both the hands is known as Padma nidhi.

Shangu is from the ocean which includes all types of wealth like pearls and corals.

Why shagam in his hand? Because shangam only gives the sound of 'omkaram'.

'Padmam' is the symbol of water sources in land like river, lakes, tanks etc. which is very important for all living beings.

As per the tradition, these guards are installed at the third entrance of the temple.

One enters the holy shrine after saluting the first protection threshold - Sankha Nidhi and Padma Nidhi.
