Once the Samoothiri got a severe pain on his right shoulder, so much so that he was not able to lift his arm. 2/n
Anyone who has been to Kozhikkode (Calicut) know about the Prosperity of the Businesses in the Kozhikkode Angadi (Market). It is still a place buzzing with activity enjoying high level of turnover and tremendous cash flow.
There is a story behind this 1/n
Once the Samoothiri got a severe pain on his right shoulder, so much so that he was not able to lift his arm. 2/n
Mangattachan was forced to be away from Calicut.
Samoothiris pain increased. Many a Vaidyan (Ayurvedic Doctor) from places near & far tried to cure him but in vain 3/n
Kolathiri’s physician asked Samoothiri to apply a wet towel on his right shoulder continuously. 4/n
Samoothiri was delighted, showered gifts on the physician and thanked Kolathiri.
When Mangattachan came back, Samoothiri gloated and told him his pain was gone. 5/n
“Chathichallo Thirumanasse” (You have been betrayed Highness!), cried Mangattachan in anguish and immediately took off, leaving a bewildered Samoothiri behind 6/n
It was her satisfaction with the Samoothiri’s rule that had caused her to start a dance on his shoulders. 8/n
On her moving out, she was automatically replaced by her elder sister Jyeshta Devi (Moodevi).
It was to prevent this Mangattachan asked Samoothiri to live with the pain 9/n
Finally with the sun setting he found a lady with a brilliant radiance around her walking through the streets of Kozhikode Angaadi (Calicut Bazaar). 10/n
Mangattachan sought the boon that she would not leave until he came back.
Lakshmi Devi Agreed. 12/n
He sacrificed himself to ensure that the Goddess of Prosperity never left the Kingdom of Calicut. 13/n
But Kozhikkode Angadi and Kozhikkode remained prosperous to the day, due to Lakshmi Devis presence. 14/n
