Because of 2 reasons:
- Comparatively easier to learn than other languages
- Has the biggest and most mature community

This makes Python a no-brainer to learn for machine learning as a beginner.

🤔 Python decorators

What are they? How do you use them?

1️⃣ Decorator is a function or a class that wraps another function or class modifying its behavior.

So how does that work?

The first thing to know is that everything in Python is an object - functions too

2️⃣ That means they can be passed to another function as an argument or returned from a function

Functions that take other functions as an argument are called higher-order functions

3️⃣ In Python, you can define a function inside other function - such functions are called inner functions

4️⃣ To create a decorator you just need to apply all of that together

log_enter_leave is a decorator.

my_function is the function.

To alter my_function's behavior we reassign it applying log_enter_leave decorator.

For a long time, I didn't understand how to use Virtual Environments in Python 🐍.

It avoids having conflicts when your projects depend on different versions of the same library.

pip install requests

You get version 2.24.0 installed in your system.

[4] A month later, you decide to work on your second project. It also needs the "requests" library.

But the latest version is not 2.24.0 anymore.

Now version 3 is available, and that's the one you want to use!

🤔 Python generators

What are they? How to use them?

🧵Let's find out 👇

1️⃣ Python generators are lazy iterators delivering the next value when their .next() is called.

They are created by using the yield keyword

next() can be called explicitly or implicitly inside for loop

They can be finite or infinite

2️⃣ yield - where a value is sent back to the caller, but the function doesn’t exit afterward as with the return statement

The state of function is remembered.

For example, the number is incremented and sent back from yield at the consecutive call next()

3️⃣ Generator stores only the current state of the function - it generates next element on next() call and forgets the previous one -> it saves memory

For example, we don't need to store 1mio elements in memory to do something with each element

4️⃣ When you call a generator function generator object is returned - it's not executed yet

It executes only when next() is called

For example, that's why Exception is raised only on the next() call

I've applied for a total of 10 development jobs in my life:

- 7 lead to interviews
- Of those 7, 4 was a good fit for me
- Of those 4, 3 offered me the job
- In all 3 cases, I negotiated a better deal

🧵 on what worked for me and what YOU can do to get similar results 👇

1. Apply for the RIGHT jobs. Look for midsize to large companies, not necessarily tech related. These tend to get way fewer applications than traditional tech companies, so it's easier to get your foot in the door - and they also tend to be great environments for learning.

2. Spend time on your application. Make sure your resumé and written application is tailored to the exact position. Recruiters or hiring managers can smell a copy/pasted resumé from miles away. Use as many words from the job spec in your application as possible.

3. Have a portfolio. Show off your skills and some personality on your website. This is a nobrainer for front-end devs, but it's true for other areas too. It's a great way to stand out over other candidates by actually *showing* the value you can create and your experience.

4. Establish personal contact. Send a quick message or make a phone call before applying. Just introduce yourself to the person in charge of hiring and ask a simple question. It's the best way I find to make them remember your application when you submit it.
