I’ve put together my list of top 10 tips for early career researchers and I’m going to share it here as promised. But first a disclaimer...I don’t know everything. This list is based on my experience in academia. I would love for others to add and augment. With that in mind....🧵

1: Decide what you want your LIFE to be. This career could consume you completely if you let it, but it won’t always love you. Focus on the other things in your life that bring you joy and fulfillment and cultivate those just as much as you cultivate your research career.

2: Decide what you want your CAREER to be. What are your values? What are you in this for? There will be hard times. But knowing your values and what success means to you can help guide you through them.

3: Decide whose opinions really matter to you. Mastery requires feedback and you will get a lot of it, some useful some less so. Identify the small circle of people you can really trust to give it to you straight. This includes forming a no committee.

4: People are people are people. Don’t be afraid to email someone about a postdoc or job or grant idea. We’ve all been there. Some people are not generous people. This is good information to have. Move on to other colleagues and mentors if you encounter these people.

Wiley buys Hindawi -- a $298 million acquisition for GBP 25 million in annual APC revenues -- in bid to expand open-access platforms @pbasken

I'm really fascinated by several things about this acquisition. 1. One could posit that APC business models in structural decline as they are replaced by transformative agreements. Will Hindawi titles be folded into Wiley TA's or offered as a separate "pure publish" model?

2. Seems that there is little concern about geopolitical risk: "Wiley…saw value in Hindawi’s strong position in Asia, the world’s largest and fastest growing academic publishing market…“Hindawi’s significant footprint in in China is a major benefit from that perspective”"

3. It seems some in the academic community continue to be "alarmed" when, after taking advantage of private capital to fund commercial start-ups for open access services (bepress; SSRN; now Hindawi), that capital looks to sell in search of returns. As if this is a surprise!

4. Most interesting will be to see how this expansion of Wiley's OA portfolio and platforms/workflows/services can connect with its important businesses in support of society publishing.

The following four scenarios will be discussed at the continued session of the 13th #OPEC & Non-OPEC meeting today:
1-Given the expected growth of demand by 5.9million bpd in 2021 and the expected growth of supply by non-OPEC countries by 1.1million bpd, as agreed in Dec... #OOTT

.... the 23 countries will increase production by 500 thousand bpd for the month of February - similar to January.

2- Given the expected growth of demand by 3.9 million bpd in 2021 , and the expected growth of supply by non-#OPEC countries by 800 (or 900) thousand bpd,...#OOTT

... as agreed in December, the production by the 23 countries will increase by 500 thousand for the month of February - similar to January. This scenario is practically the same as scenario number one, expect for lower forecasts for demand and supply. #OOTT

3- No increase (of 500 thousand bpd) for the months of February and March, and an increase of 500 thousand bpd for the moths of April, May and June each. In this scenario as well the ministers will hold monthly meetings to appraise the market and decide. #OOTT

4-The 500 thousand bpd increased in January to be decreased for the month of February. No increase for the month of March, and instead an increase of 500 thousand bpd for the months of April, May, June, and July. The probability for this scenario is considered to be low. #OOTT

Alright, folks. You may have seen that the FDA was in a fight with distilleries last week.

Let's unpack what happened, why it happened, and why it's now resulting in some extremely unusual behavior by HHS.

It should be noted that the only reason distilleries were being charged this fee was because they had been permitted by the FDA to make hand sanitizer.

The problem is that this is a wildly incomplete picture of what happened and why it happened.

So let's look at what did happen, and you can decide for yourself where the blame lies.

Let's start with some regulatory background here.

Hand sanitizer is regulated as an over-the-counter (OTC) product. Under that regulatory approach, entities which adhere to an FDA "monograph" may market an OTC drug without obtaining explicit FDA approval.

THREAD: TAJ MAHAL REAL HISTORY
In this Thread, I will prove with facts and arguments that Taj Mahal wasn't built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan
Read it carefully and propagate the information

1) The biggest proof of Shahjahan’s taking this building from another rather than building it himself is
found in Shahjahan’s own official chronicle, Badshahnama (Bibliotheca Indica series of the Asiatic Society of Bengal publication, page 403, Volume I).

Therein he admits that the TajMahal is Raja Mansingh’s mansion which, when taken over for Mumtaz’s burial. This is an obvious proof that the current history of the Taj Mahal as we know it, that it was built by Shahjahan for his wife, is completely false.

2) Had Shahjahan really conceived and built the Taj himself, description of its construction must had to be mentioned in the official chronicle. Such an event would not have been forgotten by anyone.
Furthermore, if a stupendous monument like the Taj is built, there certainty

would be a burial date that would not go unrecorded. However, the burial date is not only unrecorded, but the date of the time in which Mumtaz must have been buried in the Taj varies from six months to nine years of her death!!

@RepThomasMassie I am a huge supporter of yours but the notion that Congress should sit this one out isn't correct. Adams and Jefferson discussed making decisions on how to count ballots 1796 & 1800. ECA is unconstitutional. In event of no ascertainable majority House elects iaw 12th Amendment.

Courts didn't want to do their duty to settle controversies? Fine. Congress must but not through invoking the ECA. That creates a new unconstitutional way of electing President. Instead support the House election method iaw w/ the 12th A. when the time comes. Thanks.

People will say, "but Biden will have majority."

No, he doesn't. AZ, NV, WI, MI, PA, and GA are ALL in question. Subtract those as being indeterminable due to fraud and/or Constitutional election law violations and you're left with Trump winning.

BUT.....

There isn't a mechanism for excluding states totally from the process so every reasonable step should be take to ensure they are all able, in one way or another, to have their due input. That way in this situation is by having the House elect iaw the 12th Amendment.

So...

To understand, we need to look at those forces and the people who benefited and cultivated them.

The anti-trans rhetoric masquerading as philosophical inquiry and political philosophy in our field is both intellectually vacant and manifestly harmful.

From an academic perspective it is an embarrassment to the profession that trans lives are "up-for-debate."

It should a matter of professional legitimacy taken up by our learned societies that people engage in and are rewarded for the kind of vapid pseudo-scholarship that I see crop up in the field around trans lives.

I have a chapter in my thesis about the problem of anti-trans propaganda which focuses on the *central* argument in that propaganda: that trans women, by virtue of their socialization as men, pose a credible threat to cis women if allowed in to gender-regulated space.
