The Democrats, surprised by the results in a few counties, ask for a forensic audit of the voting machines but some get denied, “there’s no evidence”.

2/ You, a Democrat, don’t like the answer, because the other party spent the last 4 years talking about interference during the elections.

3/ You get told to respect the democratic process.

But you do already want to respect it! Perhaps, you even believe that your candidate did lose, but now you get suspicions because the Republicans are dismissing the claims of foul play rather than investigating them.

4/ So, you begin asking question on social media.

But your posts get marked as “disputed”.

5/ At the beginning, you didn’t care too much about the result of the elections. But now, you see the fairness of the democratic process at stake.

How can you know that elections are fair, if claims of wrongdoing are dismissed?

You get angry.

Hospitals in the Capital are overwhelmed.

This isn’t an exaggeration.

Here’s why:

The elected social democrats formed a government without a single minister connected to the old regime. State support of the Catholic church ended. Family law was modernized, minority language rights were protected. If Franco had opposed it - the new Spain wanted it. 4/x

The process was not instant. Not until 2019 would the state remove Franco's remains from the lavish tomb he built to himself. But the process was inexorable. The pro-Franco attempted coup guaranteed the total doom of Francoism in Spain. 5/x

Can we do a confessional? During the insurrection/riot/seige, I was apprehensive about the narrative taking hold that the police officers just kinda welcomed these shitbags into the Capitol. It seemed to reflect some of what I saw, but also not all of what I saw.

But then I made a joke about it, despite the fact that we were in the middle of knowing what happened and I knew I was, of course, getting a very select view of what was happening. I did this for two reasons:

First, because it is absolutely true that the situation would have been very different if those people hadn’t been white. That’s just the case. I knew that then, I know that now. It makes me very angry.

Second, because it felt like everyone else was doing it. And this is the thing, you only see what people are saying on here, you don’t see what people aren’t saying. I thought, “even though I don’t really know what’s going on, I’m not gonna get any hate for this.” Which was true.

And maybe third, because I thought the joke was funny. But, and please let’s all agree to this, just because a joke is funny doesn’t mean it should be tweeted.

If the (erroneous) Office of Legal Counsel memo saying president's can't be indicted for crimes while in office had not been written, hundreds of thousands of Americans would still be alive today.

If Rod Rosenstein had not told Mueller to stay out of investigating Trump's finances and to narrowly define his investigation, the coup attempt would never have taken place.

If Mueller had not gone along with Rosenstein and had followed all of the investigations into Trump's ties to the Russians and his finances, we would not have seen months of attempts to attack and weaken our democracy.

If Mnuchin had not blocked the attempts to release Trump's tax returns and had followed his constitutional responsibilities and the law, millions would not be out of work due to COVID.

If McConnell had fulfilled his Constitutional obligations and had conducted a Senate trial in which evidence was presented and the GOP had not reflexively defended Trump despite all his abuses, millions of US children might not be going hungry now.

Whatsapp will start forcing users to share personal data with Facebook which is it's parent company. It doesn't come as a surprise since all the major giants of Silicon valley; Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft etc are deeply integrated with US intelligence agencies.

Most GPs utilize the "preferred equity" structure when they raise money from outside investors. They "syndicate" deals.

Here's the basics:

The person (or team of people) putting the deal together is the "sponsor". Also called general parter. Referred to on twitter as the GP.

They find the property, do all the work, hire the management company and take fees. They often co-sign debt and always secure the financing.

The investor is generally passive, doing no work and putting in cash. This is the "limited partner". Referred to on twitter as the LP.

They don't co-sign debt. They simply read reports and ask the sponsors questions and cash checks every month (if the deal is going well).

There are two equity classes.

"Preferred equity" belongs to the LPs. Cash talks, so this is a higher class of shares. They are first in the "capital stack" behind the debt (bank loan).

"Common equity" belongs to the sponsor. They are generally last in the capital stack.

Sponsors generally co-invest. That means they hold both equity classes. A 10% co-invest is standard.

That means the GP has skin in the game. His 10% co-invest makes him both an LP and a GP.

The societal cynical obsession towards unharmful non-issues, makes them acquiesce to oppression and abuse. Nigerians were brought up to think homosexuality, adoption, abortion, being proud of your bodies and what you wear, being non-religious etc— are all taboos.

The despicable things that make this country a shithole are normalized, but Nigerians would demonize people for things they shouldn't be demonized for.

When people are obsessed with policing and ostracizating themselves for nonmalignant trivialities, it beclouds the reality of their suffering, and removes the gaze from challenging the oppressor, to challenging the oppressed.

It is always the case that whenever an individual is abused, Nigerians devote their time to utilize their skewed morality to scrutinise the abused — victim-blame and shame, turning a blind eye to the abuser.

The government mirrors this trait because most of its constituents comes from the society itself. That's why we have a government that would rather flex muscles on the vulnerable citizens than tackle the issues that envelop the country.

I've received many questions lately, but by far the most common question is “What's the best way to secure #Bittcoin?”

🧵So here’s a thread with my opinion on securing #Bitcoin

The first thing to understand is that there’s no "best way", but always a tradeoff.

You can always find ways to make it harder for someone to get your #Bitcoin, but if you over-complicate it, you could end up making it even too hard for yourself - many lost their funds this way.

Your goal should be to balance usability and security the way which works best for you.

This means very different things for different people, depending on your technical experience, understanding of Bitcoin, how much you are holding, etc.

For some, that means leaving Bitcoin on an exchange.

I strongly recommend at least learn to hold your own keys before buying, but if you can’t wait, it’s better to leave it there than holding yourself if that’d make you feel like you have no clue what’s going on.

If you feel ready to take self-custody, you could start with a hot wallet on mobile or desktop. That’s a good step forward, as it means you’re holding your own keys. But this introduces some more new concepts you should get familiar with.
