Whatsapp will start forcing users to share personal data with Facebook which is it's parent company. It doesn't come as a surprise since all the major giants of Silicon valley; Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft etc are deeply integrated with US intelligence agencies.

THREAD

In 2013, Edward Snowden, an employee of National Security Agency, revealed that the US govt was running a vast Internet surveillance program and tapping every major Silicon Valley platform and company— Facebook, Google, Apple, Amazon including mobile games like Angry Birds.

[1]
The most astonishing program revealed by Snowden’s disclosures is called PRISM, which involves a sophisticated on-demand data tap housed within the datacenters of the biggest and most respected names in Silicon Valley: Google, Apple, Facebook, Yahoo!, and Microsoft.

[2]
These devices allow the National Security Agency (NSA) to extract whatever the agency requires, including emails, attachments, chats, address books, files, photographs, audio files, search activity, and mobile phone location history.

[3]
Edward Snowden also revealed the Mass Metadata Surveillance System of America's National Security Agency (NSA) in his documents. Let's suppose if NSA had found someone dialing number of an al Qaeda member, and assume that this person had phoned 100 other people over the...

[4]
..previous 5 yrs, that would mean NSA could start tracking not only the suspect’s calls but also calls of those 100 other people. If each of those people called 100 people, NSA could track their calls too and that would put (100 times 100) 10,000 people on agency’s screen.

[5]
In the third hop, the analysts could trace the calls of those 10,000 people and the calls that they had made—or (10,000 times 100) 1 million people. In other words, active surveillance of a suspect could put a million people under the agency’s watch.

[6]
Similarly, the British GCHQ gathers data equivalent of all the books in British library, sent 192 times every 24 hrs under the Project "Tempora" by infiltrating the fibre optic cables that transport internet traffic between UK, North America, South America and Europe.

[7]
Elon Musk has urged people to switch from WhatsApp to Signal. Snowden also promoted Tor and Signal in 2017 and his promotion boosted it's users from 1 million to 6 million but he never told us that Tor was developed by US Navy to disguise spies on internet.

[8]
In 2011, Tor was funded $503,706 by Pentagon. Funds doubled to $2.2 million in 2012. Tor signed heavy govt contracts in 2012: $353,000 from the State Department, $876,099 from the US Navy, and $937,800 from the BBG.

Why was the govt pouring in such a humongous amount to...
[9]
...a network which was apparently fighting global surveillance of internet by the US? Reality is no what it seems.

Also, Google, Amazon, Microsoft have been assisting NSA in surveillance programs and have supplied technology to develop weapons. Following are few examples:
[10]
1. In 2008 Google won the contract to run the servers and search technology that powered the CIA’s Intellipedia, an intelligence database modeled after Wikipedia that was collaboratively edited by the NSA, CIA, FBI, and other federal agencies.

[11]
Not long after that, Google contracted with the US Army to equip fifty thousand soldiers with a customized suite of mobile Google services.

2. In 2007, Google partnered with Lockheed Martin to design a visual intelligence system for NGA that displayed US military bases..

[12]
in Iraq and marked out Sunni and Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad.

3. In 2010, Google won a no-bid exclusive $27 million contract to provide NGA with “geospatial visualization services” effectively making Internet giant the “eyes” of America’s defense and intelligence apparatus.
4. In 2010, Google entered into a secretive agreement with the National Security Agency.

“According to officials who were privy to details of Google’s arrangements with NSA, company agreed to provide information about traffic on its networks in exchange for intelligence...
[14]
..from NSA about what it knew of foreign hackers,” wrote Shane Harris in War, a history of warfare.

6. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos used his wealth to launch Blue Origin, a missile company that partners with Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

[15]
7. Amazon runs cloud computing and storage services for the CIA. The initial contract, signed in 2013, was worth $600 million and was later expanded to include the NSA and a dozen other US intelligence agencies.

[16]
8. Facebook too has links with military. Its secretive “Building 8” research division is involved in everything from artificial intelligence to drone-based wireless Internet networks. Facebook is betting big on virtual reality as the user interface of the future.

[17]
Facebook’s Oculus virtual reality headset has already been integrated into DARPA’s Plan X which is a $110 million project to build an immersive, fully virtual reality environment to fight cyberwars.

DARPA is ‘Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’ of US DoD.

[18]
9. Google's military work, reveals that it has been selling Google Search, Google Earth, and Google Enterprise (G Suite) products to every major US military and intelligence agency: navy, army, air force, Coast Guard, DARPA, NSA, FBI, DEA, CIA, NGA and State Department.

[19]
10. In 2012, as civil war in Syria intensified and American support for rebel forces there increased, Google's ‘JigSaw’ brainstormed ways it could help push Bashar al-Assad from power. Among them: a tool that visually maps high-level defections from Assad’s government.

[20}
It's quite evident that the biggest and most respected Internet companies have been working in secret to funnel data on hundreds of thousands of users to America's NSA, revealing by extension the vast amounts of personal data that these companies collected on their users.
When you are not paying for the product, you are the product.

BJP is planning to undertake 'Rath Yatra' in Delhi's riot-affected areas to seek donations for Ram Temple on Feb 1. In 1990, L.K. Advani had launched Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya.

This thread covers the large scale killing which took place during the Yatra and it's impact.

Between April 1989 and April 1990, 262 people died in Gujarat, mostly were Muslims. In October 1990, days after Advani’s yatra began, 41 were killed in Ahmedabad. The same month, 52 were killed in Jaipur, 20 in Jodhpur, 33 in Lucknow, over 100 in Delhi, 37 in Assam,

[1]

18 in Patna and 165 in Hyderabad. Also in October, a pogrom against Muslims in Bhagalpur, Bihar, saw 960 killed in which 900 were Muslims. In November, 31 were killed in Agra, again mostly Muslim and 13 in Indore. In Dec, 60 were killed in Karnataka and 134 in Hyderabad.

[2]

Many parts of India remained tense for long periods of time. Between April and May 1990, three riots in Kanpur killed 30; between May and November 1991 more than 50 were killed in Varanasi. In May 1991, 26 including 24 Muslims were killed in Vadodara.

[3]

In October 1992, 44 were killed in Sitamarhi. On 6 December 1992, immediately after the Babri Masjid was destroyed, pogroms against Muslims broke out in Surat where 200 died, of whom some 95 per cent were Muslims. In Bhopal in December, 143 were killed.

President Trump has pardoned four Blackwater contractors who killed 17 Iraqi citizens including a 9 year old Ali,19 year old Ahmed and 11 year old Qasim in one of the worst acts of terrorism.

In this thread I'm sharing the heart wrenching accounts from that day in 2007.

On Sept 16 2007, at approximately 12:08 p.m. in Nisour Square Baghdad, a heavily armed Blackwater convoy consisting of four “Mamba” armored vehicles with 7.62-millimeter machine guns mounted on top made a surprise U turn as they entered the square.

[1]

While the blackwater convoy entered, a young Iraqi medical student named Ahmed Hathem al-Rubaie was driving his mother, Mahasin, in Opal sedan after dropping his father Jawad at a hospital where he worked as a pathologist. Ahmed was in the third year of medical school.

[2]

It was the month of Ramadan so they were fasting. Ahmed’s mother, was also a doctor--an allergist. They could've left Iraq but Jawad believed they were needed in the country. “I feel pain when I see doctors leaving Iraq,” he said.

[3]

Ali Khalaf Salman, an Iraqi traffic cop, was on duty in Nisour Square on that day. As Khalaf watched, the blackwater convoy came to an abrupt halt and a large white man with a mustache, positioned atop the third vehicle in the Blackwater convoy, began to fire randomly.

Today marks 73rd anniversary of the Nakba when more than half of Palestine's native population close to 800,000 was uprooted in 1948. 531 villages were destroyed. Palestinian sources, combined with Israeli military archives, have listed 31 confirmed massacres.

THREAD

In February 1947, the British cabinet decided to pull out of Mandatory Palestine. UN had to solve the question of Palestine's future. It took nine months in deliberation and then adopted the idea of partitioning the country without the consent of Palestinians.

The Jews, who owned less than 6% of the total land area of Palestine and constituted no more than one third of the population at the time of partition, were handed more than half of its overall territory. The Partition Resolution was adopted on 29 November 1947, and...

the ethnic cleansing of Palestine began in early December 1947 with a series of Zionist attacks.

Ben Gurion said couple of months before partition:
“The Palestinians could become a fifth column, and if so they can either be mass arrested or expelled; it is better to expel them”

The early Jewish assaults were severe enough to cause the exodus of around 75,000 Palestinians. But on 9 April 1948, Jewish forces carried out the Deir Yassin massacre. As they burst into the village, the Jewish soldiers sprayed the houses with machine-gun fire killing..

Parler has been hacked and user data has been downloaded. The following thread contains information from /u/BlueMountainDace on Reddit:

"so a group of developers latched onto the Press Release that Twilio put out at midnight last night. In that Press Release, Twilio

accidentally revealed which services Parler was using. Turns out it was all of the security authentications that were used to register a user. This allowed anyone to create a user, and not have to verify an email address, and immediately have a logged-on account.

Well,

because of that access, it gave them access to the behind the login box API that is used to deliver content -- ALL CONTENT (parleys, video, images, user profiles, user information, etc) --. But what it also did was revealed which USERS had "Administration" rights,

"Moderation" rights.

Well, then what happened, those user accounts that had Administration rights to the entire platform... The hackers, internet warriors, call it what you will, was able to use the forgot password link to change the password. Why? Because Twilio was no

longer authenticating emails. This meant, they'd get directly to the reset password screen of that Administration user.

This group of Internet Warriors then used that account, to create a handful of other ADMINISTRATION accounts, and then created a script that ended up

Facebook is a newstand. But no one can see which news Facebook is pushing to the top.

So we built an app for that called #CitizenBrowser. Our first finding: the sharp impact of Facebook’s political ad ban reversal in the Georgia Senate elections.
https://t.co/GZNdwZOlHW /1

This is the first report from our #CitizenBrowser project. There will be many more to come. But first, I want to tell you a bit about how we did it because it’s the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done @themarkup – and we do a lot of ambitious projects. /2

#CitizenBrowser grew out of conversations @suryamattu and I had about how to audit Facebook. We had both worked on browser extensions to collect data from Facebook, but FB always threatened to shut those down, just like their recent threats against the NYU AdObservatory. /3

But the bigger problem is that browser extensions don’t capture most FB activity. Most people use FB on mobile and browser extensions only work on desktop or laptop computers.

So one night, late at the WeWork, @suryamattu said to me: “We’ll have to build our own browser.” /4

“No way,” I said. “That’s insane.” But slowly, I came around. Here’s why: browsers are good at running in the background. Users could log into FB once through the browser and never use it again.

Then we wouldn’t be monitoring users. We would only be monitoring their feed. /5

A thread on teaching live lessons using @MicrosoftTeams Meet Now function where students follow their normal timetable except online - will go into more detail on every point in a blog post later. Have used Teams for live teaching have supported over 100 live lessons since March

1. If you are using the desktop app, check you have the latest version of Teams so that you should have Breakout rooms enabled. Check by clicking your profile picture, then About - I have version 1.3.00.28779. If you have 1.2..., click on check for updates to get the latest

2. Set your entry routine. I get my students to enter with their microphone muted - you can also not allow attendees to unmute by opening the participants list, clicking the ellipsis and selecting that option.

3. Make sure students arrive as attendees - some organisations have this set up to automatically happen that only meeting organizer is the presenter and others are attendees. Can change this in the manage permissions menu to only me if not already set (opens in a web browser).

4. Classroom routine and expectations - first lesson I share my screen and show the students the raise hand function for when they want to ask questions, how to access the chat function and how to react to questions as opposed to typing answers

Years before Andy Grove was attributed with the phrase:

"Whatever can be done, will be done"

A lot of us technologists assumed this was the case anyway.

It's a truism.

What if we could track every person on the planet in real time?

Or at least everyone in a major city

🤔🔮

So, given someone has this idea.

Then the only question is can it be done.

Well, we're already installing all the tech to do this for autonomous vehicles, drones and smart city infrastructure.

It really wouldn't be a huge leap to do that for people.

But how might that be possible 🤔

Sure we can already do it with phones right, but not everyone has a phone and sometimes the batteries die blah blah.

Could we do it in a way that it was difficult to circumvent, and always active?

Well, maybe we could if we put our thinking caps on about the problem.

--- this line intentionally left blank ---

Now I'm going to enter the wild world of wild speculative futurism, so take everything else with a pinch of salt 🧂

--- this line intentionally left blank ---

Turns out cell phone towers pinpoint the location of your phone as part of how they work.

And then as you move around you switch from one tower to another.

I think most people get this.

While main deity is Shiva as Kapartheeswarar, the kshetram is famous for Ganesha, known as Swetha/Vellai Vinayagar (white Vinayak)

During samudra manthan, Vasuki snake (used as rope) started spewing venom.

Unable to bear the intense heat, Devas rushed to Siva. He told them that this was because the task was started without getting Ganesha’s approval.
So the Devas created a Ganesha murti from white sea foam and worshipped it.
It was later taken by Indra to Indralok.
@GunduHuDuGa

But once Indra had to come to Earth to pray to Shiva to seek relief from a curse inflicted on him. So he brought the murti of Ganesha with him. When he came here, he wanted to take bath before puja. So he gave the murti to a boy to hold for sometime. The boy was actually Shiva.

He kept the murti down and vanished. Indra could not lift it again and a divine voice told him to let Vinayagar stay there and visit every Ganesh Chaturthi to pray.
Since Vinayagar is made of foam, no abhishekam is done here. Only punugu is applied n camphor powder is sprinkled
