Whatsapp will start forcing users to share personal data with Facebook which is it's parent company. It doesn't come as a surprise since all the major giants of Silicon valley; Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft etc are deeply integrated with US intelligence agencies.

Elon Musk has urged people to switch from WhatsApp to Signal. Snowden also promoted Tor and Signal in 2017 and his promotion boosted it's users from 1 million to 6 million but he never told us that Tor was developed by US Navy to disguise spies on internet.

In 2011, Tor was funded $503,706 by Pentagon. Funds doubled to $2.2 million in 2012. Tor signed heavy govt contracts in 2012: $353,000 from the State Department, $876,099 from the US Navy, and $937,800 from the BBG.

Also, Google, Amazon, Microsoft have been assisting NSA in surveillance programs and have supplied technology to develop weapons. Following are few examples:

1. In 2008 Google won the contract to run the servers and search technology that powered the CIA’s Intellipedia, an intelligence database modeled after Wikipedia that was collaboratively edited by the NSA, CIA, FBI, and other federal agencies.

2. In 2007, Google partnered with Lockheed Martin to design a visual intelligence system for NGA that displayed US military bases..

It's quite evident that the biggest and most respected Internet companies have been working in secret to funnel data on hundreds of thousands of users to America's NSA, revealing by extension the vast amounts of personal data that these companies collected on their users.
When you are not paying for the product, you are the product.

On this day in 2007, the bomb blasts in Samjhauta Express killed 68 people including 44 Pakistanis. The immediate investigations revealed irrefutable evidence about the masterminds. In this thread, I would share some Indian newspaper clips which covered the investigations.


1. Lt Col Prasad Purohit, a serving Indian army officer, was arrested for terror conspiracy in the Malegaon blast case. He was the co founder of Abhinav Bharat, a right wing Hindu organisation. He admitted that he was the mastermind.

2. Lt Col Purohit met Pragya Thakur on 5 Oct 2008 to tell her that "Our People" had carried out the killings in Orissa, burnt down two churches and also carried out the Malegaon blast.

There are lots of problems with ad-tech:

* being spied on all the time means that the people of the 21st century are less able to be their authentic selves;

* any data that is collected and retained will eventually breach, creating untold harms;

* data-collection enables for discriminatory business practices ("digital redlining");

* the huge, tangled hairball of adtech companies siphons lots (maybe even most) of the money that should go creators and media orgs; and

2/

* anti-adblock demands browsers and devices that thwart their owners' wishes, a capability that can be exploited for even more nefarious purposes;

That's all terrible, but it's also IRONIC, since it appears that, in addition to everything else, ad-tech is a fraud, a bezzle.

The new tactics to implement the #CancelCulture are quite ingenious. They are not going after what they want cancelled directly, they are going after how it gets to you! It’s attacking the free market, and it’s harder to spot and harder to fight before it’s done! Read on!

Here’s an example. If there’s a challenge to the normal Social Media platforms, then they aren’t wasting time going after the new app, they are making the app unavailable well more difficult to get. This puts people off from going to the trouble or switching.

Here's why Twitter/Facebook/other platforms are publishers. Neither electricity nor phone companies actively curate content, that, is, choose what content will go where and why (like a newspaper, that is, a publisher). Just cause algorithms are involved not really a difference.

Neither do electricity nor phone companies (usually) deliver advertising based on the curation of content and vice versa. Neither do they as companies foster discussion. Etc etc.

In fact, this goes back to a basic confusion. Not even the web is the same as the internet, and social media is certainly not the internet. Neither are apps or platforms. The utility, if there is one, is the internet, the rest is increasingly some equivalent to publishers.

this is before you get to 1 the over-fetishization of content/representations and 2 the out of date characterisation of both media in general and the divisions within it on all sides, based on a media "age" that's now perhaps passing

per McLuhan but also Whitehead, Langer maybe, a lot of media ecology, Lovelace, Deleuze, Hopper, Virilio, Harney, and many many more.

This is my son, Sam. He’s 5. And today he learned how shitty and harmful #ToxicMasculinity is. My rage meter is spiking right now so excuse me if this is a little raw but there are some things I want to say about BS #gender norms (a thread)


Sam is my middle child & he’s a terror. A “boy’s boy” as so many (not me) would say. He’s rough and tumble, he’s loud, he’s always dirty, loves trucks, plays sports and knee drops me from the couch. But he also loves a lot of “girl” things.

Sam has a collection of purses because he likes to carry things around. And he also loves to have his nails painted bright colors because he thinks they “look beautiful.” And he’s right – they are beautiful…


So he proudly wore his red nail polish to kindergarten this morning because Sam has absolutely no concept of nail polish only being for girls or reason to think anyone would possibly have a problem with beautiful nails.


But his classmates did have a problem. A big one. Sam was ridiculed for being a boy with nail polish. They called him names and told him to take it off. This lasted the entire day.

2/ Despite the seeming impossibility of a man with Whitaker's background getting a job at Justice ever again—he'd been found to have used his former title as a US attorney to fraudulently threaten consumers with valid complaints with criminal penalties—Whitaker found an opening.

3/ Within 60 days of parachuting out of World Patent Marketing as it was being fined $26 million by the feds, Whitaker was working for CNN and telling a fellow attorney panelist that his purpose in working for CNN was to get noticed by one man—Donald Trump—and thereby get a job.

4/ Whitaker spent his time at CNN making ludicrous statements about the Mueller probe: there was no obstruction or collusion, he said; Mueller had no authority to look into any aspect of Trump's finances or to subpoena him, he said. All the while, he hoped Trump was watching him.
