You graduate as an investor when you start asking things like the quality of revenue, incremental quality of earnings and the competitive landscape. Eg:- One API player will grow earnings because of shortage in market for those

APIs but the other one which will grow because of being the lowest cost producer. The markets often give higher Valuations to the latter player.

Another example that comes to mind is Balkrishna Industries vs other tyre players.🚜🚜

Given the fact that it is the lowest cost producer and has the highest margins. It always gets a premium to the other players in the tyre space. Whether at peak or at trough.

One more example is that of APL Apollo, same business got low valuations during the last cycle and collapsed by 50%+ when their EBITDA per tonne reduced. In this cycle, the value added proportion has increased.

The Q4F22 Earnings season is almost here!

What are the Key things that you need to track in various businesses like Hospitals 🏥, Pharma🩹, Chemicals 🧪 and Music🎵 etc ⤵️⤵️

I will be analysing the companies and the expectations in two ways:-

1⃣What does the company do and the sales split?
2⃣What to expect from the results/Business direction?

1. Divis Labs:

Over the years Divis has proven its capabilities as an API player and has the highest Ebitda margins (44%) when compared to the other Pharma companies. 57% of the business in the last Quarter Q3FY22 was contributed by Synthesis and 43% by Generic API’s.

What to expect?

Molnupiravir has contributed to almost 21% of sales for Divis in FY22 (According to Kotak).
Investors will need to track the recovery in the Generic API division which has been soft for the last 3 quarters and growth in CDMO ex of Molnupiravir.

What to look for in Financials?

Key monitorable to track is by how much the topline grows or degrows QoQ. Given the base was high in last Quarter due to Molnupiravir Sales.

Topline sustaining above 2100 crores and margins above 41% will be good!

What is a QIP?

A QIP or a Qualified Institutional placement allows a company to raise capital by issuing securities (by diluting equity) only to institutions.

Only Qib's or Qualified Institutional Buyers can participate in QIP's. This includes Mutual Funds, Foreign institutions

and Pension funds etc. (From my knowledge PMS' or any individual investor cannot participate in Qip's).

Just to give you an example:- Look at the investors who participated in the QIP of Saregama (750 crores)

Another example is the Qip of Deepak Nitrite in 2016 for the Phenol Project (size of the project was 1400 crores+)

The QIP witnessed participation from some of the top domestic institutional investors namely Reliance MF, Birla MF, ICICI Pru MF

Question arises, Why did SEBI allow for creation of QIP as an instrument for raising money?

QIP was introduced in the Indian Markets in 2006 by Sebi. As the regulator was concerned that the domestic companies were getting too dependent on raising money through

It is really very tough to match the brilliance and achievements of Vidyaranya. After whom came 15 - Chandrashekara Bharati [1386-1389].

The 2018 State of JavaScript survey is out. They got 20,000 responses and have some delicious, delicious data. I'mma thread in some highlights:

First up: JavaScript flavors. There's TypeScript at 47% adoption, a tad higher than npm's own survey results (which said 46%). npm's survey is coming up again soon and will ask about TypeScript in a lot more detail.

I really, *really* like SoJ's "would not use again" question, which lets people who've abandoned a tech self-identify. This is noticeable in the graph above with Flow users -- 41% of people who've used Flow say they wouldn't use it again.

Now JavaScript frameworks. It's been a full year since npm's survey, so these numbers differ from ours in the directions I expected:
React 65% (vs. 60%)
Vue 29% (vs. 24%)
Ember 5% (vs 4%, I was expecting a bigger rise)

But there's a shocker in here: Angular.

npm's survey had Angular at 40% last year and SoJ has it at either:
- 58% (if you include those who don't want to use it again)
- 24% (if you count only those who like it)
Since npm's question didn't ask if they intend to *continue* using it I think that might explain this.
