It's a beautiful Saturday on this Corona riddled planet. It's a good day to do the following:

1. Open your account statement and find out how much commissions you are paying. You'd be paying anywhere between 0.7% to 1.3% extra over direct plans.

2. If you are one of those Robinhood Traders and you started mistakenly investing in mutual funds instead of trading mutual funds, commissions can kill you! A simple 1% difference in commissions can add over 10-15 years. This comparison has been done to death but once more.

3. Figure of if whoever sold you these things, be if your advisor or distributor are providing value equal those commissions or not. This is an incredibly hard thing to figure. You need to do deep research, understand money yourself and then ask your advisor/distributors

Nobody cares about the things that matter - getting investors in, helping new distributors advisors, making things (Slightly) easier for investors, honest mis-selling etc.

Very few care about mutual funds. Just 2.1 crore unique investors. If you probably take out HNIs/institutions in this, that's maybe 20-30%, what's left are the common gareeb folks.

Nobody cares about direct equity investing either.

Next time when someone says, people are moving away from mutual funds to direct equities, show them this and punch them in the throat.

Only 1.5 cr active demat accounts. If you remove duplicates, maybe 60% of this?

Nobody cares because very few people have money to care either?

Lot of startups who are yet to make profits are filing for IPOs globally. I'm reading the filings and the language is terrible. A few tips on how to do it right.

Here are the right terms to use instead of the current antiquated language.

We are making losses.

"We've been consistently making negative profits and growing year on year."

We don't yet have a business model.

"We're innovation leaders in several fast growing market segments"

Losses will increase for the foreseeable future.

"Blockchain"

EBITDA is negative

"Our future adjusted EBITDA margin is consistently positive"

We Work got it right with their Community adjusted EBITDA

Holy shit. 8000 crores raised IN NFOs in a month. Look at the schemes, all pointless garbage!

If you look closely, 4 out of the 6 top NFOs in terms of money raised are from bank owned NFOs. These AMCs are notoriously skilled at selling garbage funds through their banking channels. They've turned mis-selling into an art. They're are Picasso's of mis-selling

One would be excused for thinking these are intent based allocations by investors which isn't the case. These funds would've been sold mis-sold by any way possible. Bank RMs are incentivized to do so.

Otherwise, in a country where people don't understand a simple mutual funds, expecting people to understand a worthless and pointless ESG fund a d then allocating 1500 crores is a mega stretch. ICICI Pru too had raised 1000+cr for its ESG fund.

The fact that these new funds are raising so much money to me is a negative. In a time like this, where will retail investors find fresh money to allocate? Which means they must doing stupid things like selling other funds.

In my view, different stocks play different roles in a portfolio at any given point in time.

If you had frozen the March 2020 Portfolio of PPFAS flexicap as it is then in 2 years, their domestic folio beats overseas by 2.5:1

I believe PPFAS suffers from typecasting. most investors believe the differentiation is an overseas component and not other features like going into cash/ value/ safety first etc.

no one looks at tax-efficient way of looking at returns along with risk is taken/ churn happened.

Persistent/ Mphasis/ CDSL are 4 to 7 X and with meaningful weight.

IEX is now 2.5-3X (though not part of Indian portfolio)

including dividend, ITC has beaten up amazon since then

There is no scientific way to find out which stock worked well. Only fund house knows buying prices.

this exercise can be done by any investor at any given point of time from factsheet date to any date. (relevant enough in my view)

After 34 years in the business, I just can\u2019t get my head around how an adviser can justify charging a client any more that $2,000 per year for financial advice, and 0.25% per year for asset management if needed. There may be outliers that cost more, but those are the expectation.

I remember reading in @Prashanth_Krish blog today that an Adani company had the same price in 2019 as that of 2010. Zero returns in 9 years. The one year return is so high that 10 year CAGR now is 30%

How you can filter stocks for Intraday trades - 🧵

As a kid, we would do homework before school the next day - you have to do homework here too. A specific sector performs on a particular day and studying things a day before will help you spot that particular sector. (1/11)

To prepare for the next trading day, you got to check the Index charts of all sectors. You got to keep an eye on a specific Index if you see a few factors:

- If any Index closed exactly at the resistance, you can get a trade on either side on the next day. (2/11)

- If it gave a rejection candle at resistance.

- If any Index closed exactly at support, you can get a trade on either side the following day.

- If there was a bullish signal at the support.

- If any Index gave a breakout or breakdown and then gave a good closing. (3/11)

- If any Index has taken support at 50 or 200 EMA.

Once you spot the Index, look at all the stocks in that particular Index. Pick at least 3-4 stocks from that Index and add them to your watchlist for the next day. It's ideal to check both higher and lower timeframes. (4/11)

What you should do next day? (When I am unable to check Indices and stocks a day before, I sometimes directly start with this process.)

- Start with checking the top gainers/losers list. I observe market from 9:15 to 9:45am to check the sectors performing well on that day.(5/11)
