Shaista Khan entered Deccan to kill Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj & to destroy his empire. Shahista Khan captured a lot of province and fort of Chakan near Pune.

Till 3 years he gave lot of troubles to the subjects of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and he personally made Lal Mahal his destination to live at , which was the property of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj . Lal Mahal, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent his childhood.

1. In the April 1663 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj personally made a surprise attack on Shahista Khan in the Lal Mahal Pune.

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj attacked with 300 soldiers at the midnight while Lal Mahal had strong security of 1.5 lac soldiers for Shahista Khan.

3. He entered in Pune, he made a drama of wedding ceremony to enter in Pune near Lal Mahal.

4. During the night they made big hole at the wall of Lal Mahal and entered into the palace.

5. Chhatrapati Shivaji personally attacked Shaista Khan but unfortunately he got saved from the attack of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ,but he lost his three fingers.

6. Strong Security force of 1.5 lac soldiers was not aware what was happening in the palace due to the noise of fake wedding ceremony band.

7. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj safely moved out from the palace and reached to Rajgad. Shaista Khan sent an army to catch Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but Chhatrapati Shivaji diverted his army due to his clever technique.

8. He used few Bullocks. He tied burning torch to bullocks horns and sent them to opposite site of Rajgad in the jungle during the night. Khan’s army was confused and they ran behind the bullocks in the dark.

Finally Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj succeeded in the great and risky string operation against Shahista Khan and Mughal Empire.

In this incident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had shown best management technique to do this remarkable commando operation against shaistha khan.



In old times, the aborigines of this place were the tribals named Nagas, Pishachas and Yakshas, who used to go in summer towards Tibet and return to Kashmir in winter.

Because of the fear of these tribals, the Brahmins used to depart from the valley before the tribals returned.
