Maina Files No Case Submission as EFCC Closes Case

 ...the defendant informed the court, through his counsel, of his intention to file a no case submission; that he has no case to answer in the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,...
...at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Consequently. Justice Okong Abang adjourned trial to December 10 to enable the defence counsel to address the court orally and for the prosecution to respond.
“The prosecution have closed their case today, it is for the defendant to open his defence, though the court ordered the case to be heard in his absence, but he is here, he is entitled to be heard.
The defendant has elected to argue or present a no case submission. It is the defendant’s decision and a choice made by him.
Learned counsel for the first defendant submitted that there is no provision in ACJA that limit the first defendant in filing a written address in support of the no case submission and there is no provision that limits him to filing a no case submission in writing,...
...therefore it is hereby ordered that parties shall address the court orally on the defendant’s no case submission.
The matter is hereby adjourned to December 10, 2020 for defendant to argue his no case application and for the prosecution to respond to same orally," the judge ruled.
Earlier, PW9, in her evidence-in-chief, told the court that the driver’s licenses used by Maina to open five accounts with Fidelity bank and UBA were forged.
“We wrote to the Federal Road Safety Corps regarding Exhibit D7/17 and they replied that the drivers licenses used to open the accounts were forged. Exhibit D72, which is the account statement of Abdullahi A Faisal with fidelity bank has a total in-flow of N1,571,842,090...
...but the final total including interest and investment in the account is N1,822,074,690, ” the witness said.
The witness also revealed how on December 15, 2011, Maina bought a house from one Mr. Emeka Obiagu for N44m.
She also narrated how the defendant, using the name Abdullahi Faisal, transferred monies which were converted to United States Dollars equivalent through a Bureau de Change, West Waves BDC and handed to Maina.
“On May 2, 2014, Maina using Abdullahi Faisal, transferred N34m. On the same day, N33, 800,000 was transferred to West Waves BDC for exchange to US Dollars, which was handed over to Abdulrasheed Maina.
On May 6, 2014, there was a transfer from Abdullahi Faisal for N47,000,500 and on same date, N42,000,500 was transferred to the West Waves BDC,” the witness said.

PW9, concluded her evidence-in chief and was cross-examined by the defense counsel, Anayo Adibi.
Maina is being prosecuted on 12 counts of money laundering by the EFCC.

The Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today January 11, 2021 secured the conviction and sentencing of one Mala Mallam Yawudi to three and a half years in prison...


...before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the State High Court Maiduguri for forgery and stealing to the tune of N645,000.00 (Six Hundred and Forty-Five Thousand Naira).

The convict pleaded guilty to the three-count charge preferred against him by the EFCC.

One of the counts reads: "That you Mala Mallam Yawudi, while being an Accountant of Works Department in Dikwa Local Government Area, Maiduguri, Borno State, sometime in 2014 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court...

...dishonestly misappropriated certain property to wit; the sum of N645,000.00. (Six Hundred and Forty Five Thousand Naira) belonging to Bukar Wakil (now deceased) who was declared dead in November 2015...

...and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 and punishable under Section 309 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State of Nigeria."

EFCC Docks Man for Alleged Investment Fraud in Calabar


The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday December 2, 2020, arraigned one Joseph Stanley Okputu before Justice Imelda Etape of the State High Court, Calabar, Cross River State for ponzi scheme.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge, bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) only.

One of the charges read, "That you, Okputu Joseph Stanley ("M") on or about 6th of August 2018 in Calabar within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, fraudulently converted to your own use the sum of N600,000.00 (Six hundred thousand naira), belonging to Anietie Ekong...

...meant to be invested in bitcoin/forex trading package and to be returned to him with 80% interest on the fortieth (40th) day of the investment,"...

Again, Fani-Kayode’s Absence Stalls His Trial

The trial of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, could not hold on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, and for the third consecutive time due to his absence in court.


Fani-Kayode is facing a five-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N26million, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

At today’s trial, prosecution counsel, M. S. Abubakar, expressed displeasure at the defendant’s recurring absence in court, noting that the unnecessary delays which such has caused in the trial defeat the spirit of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2016 (ACJ)...

...which is for speedy administration of justice in the country. He therefore applied for a bench warrant against Fani-Kayode.

“My lord, on January 22, 2019, the defendant was neither in court, nor was he represented. But the court gave him a benefit of the doubt, which he abused. Again, on October 21, 2020, the defendant was also not in court.

...with the twelfth prosecution witness, PW12, Bello Hamma Adama narrating to the court how N159,104,000 (One Hundred and Fifty-nine Million, One Hundred and Four Thousand Naira)...

...out of the N329,104,000 (Three Hundred and Twenty-nine Million, One Hundred and Four Thousand Naira) that was meant for the sensitization of Muslim youths was diverted.

Bello, an operative attached to the Chairman's Monitoring Unit of the EFCC, while being led in evidence by M. S. Abubakar, drew the court attention to the statement of the second defendant (exhibit C1-C2 on page 8)...

...in which he admitted transferring the said sum on the instructions of the first defendant.

EFCC Arraigns Man over N6.2m Forex Deal in Uyo

The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday, January 25, 2021 arraigned one Inibehe Ndarake Eden before Justice F. O. Riman of the Federal High Court sitting Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.


He was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N6,200,000.00 (six million, two hundred thousand naira).

The defendant allegedly obtained the said sum from one Inime Marcus Umanah sometime in July 2017, on the pretext that he will invest it for him in forex trading.

Umanah, according to his petition dated May 17, 2019 alleged that he agreed to invest the money because of the profit sharing formula of 80% and 20% for investor and trader respectively...

...and that he will also be getting 30% of the invested capital monthly, through his trading system, Eden System-FX.

Many roads in excellent conditions were included for maintenance for 5 years. One wud think that d cost of maintaining good roads will be lesser than usual. However, while earlier tenders had cost of Rs 1 Cr/Km, these 2 tenders were given Rs 3.15 Cr/Km & Rs 1.95 Cr/ Km resp.


Rs 656 Crore tender was due to be opened on Nov 18 at 11 Am and Rs 494 Crore tender was due to be opened at Nov 19 at 11 Am. Our CM keeps repeatedly saying that these r e tenders and that no ones knows who participates in these tenders until they r opened.


He says no one knows who will participate in these tenders and who will win the tender. However, we have just exposed how this argument of the CM is a huge lie. In both these tenders, as per CM no one knows until Nov 18 11 Am about the participants & the winners of the tender


However, @Arappor sent a email on Nov 18 at 9.42 Am to Highways Secretary & Finance Secretary naming the person who will win these tenders. Given there r hundreds of contractors, for @arappor to exactly say who will win the tender is impossible unless these tenders r prefixed

If you’ve donated to @BorahaeFunds, I would suggest disputing with your bank account in hopes to get your money back and defund them. The amount of money they have... it’s a scam at this point if they’re going against donors/@BTS_twt wishes of funding Life Goes On.

I was in a group chat with one of the admins who was really rude and aggressive when I asked about donations when they first appeared.

Their original statement was “we will not be receiving funds. We have our own private funds to fund Armys” & their account was originally only suppose to track funds. Others in the chat questioned them & even stated that it was misleading if it was only meant to track funds.

Their account within the first weeks was deleted and then reappeared again. And then, within weeks they started accepting funds. That already seemed suspicious to me. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt when they kept their word and funded Armys despite those inconsistencies

Lately, however, they’ve been inconsistent and lying about their intentions with other peoples money. Not your own money. This changes things. That is a scam @BorahaeFunds .

N24bn Police Pension Fraud: Court Fixes Jan 19, 2020 for Ruling on Admissibility of Evidence


The trial of Atiku Abubakar Kigo for police pension fraud, before Justice Hussien Baba of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, continued on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with the testimony of the fourth prosecution witness (PW4), Mustapha Sani Gadanya.

Kigo, a former director in the Police Pension Office, is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alongside five others on amended eight-count charges, bordering on money laundering and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N24 billion.

At today’s sitting, Gadanya, who is a staff of Eco Bank in his testimony against the third defendant, Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula, presented bank account opening documents, account statements and Certificate of Identification on the documents from Eco bank,...

I’m going to talk out loud for a sec. I have been listening to the Georgia hearing this morning. In recent weeks, I have felt a bit frustrated & even cynical at times about the repetitive claims that they have “massive proof of fraud” - but have yet to share it yet. 1/

IF THEY HAVE PROOF, JUST SHOW IT TO US!!

Well, today they have had data experts talk through their analysis & findings in a much more detailed manner.

I am finally beginning to understand why they have yet shown the public the blatant proof they claim to have. 2/

I work in IT. I have spent hundreds of hours pouring over data sets, searching for discrepancies in order to validate mass data mappings & migrations. Sometimes I have to dig into a million records. 3/

If I don’t catch data issues so that we can fix them before pushing the code to our live environment, the impact is tremendous. We could overstate earnings, lose millions of $ in business, kill our pipeline, and/or place our company at legal risk. 4/

My boss leaves me alone for weeks at a time so that I can perform this analysis. I bounce data points off the source file & I then off of 50 or more other data points. I then translate my findings into language that developers can understand & act on. I have a point in this... 4/

That makes sense. The bank gives you a loan and in case you don’t pay, the bank will take over your house and sell it and recover its money.

That’s collateral.

Banks also lend money to big corporations. With them, banks don’t always have collateral.

So a loan where the bank has collateral is considered safer for the bank.

In the early 2000s, the banks in the USA were giving out loans to people for buying houses.

The economy had just recovered from the tech bubble in 2000 where many banks had given out loans to businesses that had shut down.

In that backdrop, the banks found giving home loans safer.

Let folks have their many talents, interests and gifts. Life is far more fun with variety, loves.

A lot of folks have come to know me as an activist & I’m grateful that folks care to know me at all.

But I wasn’t born in 2014. I was a whole teacher, executive, policy person, speaker, arts and culture lover, reader, writer, woman of faith, fashion and more before 4 yrs ago 🤷🏾‍♀️

We rightfully complain that marginalized people are not allowed to be fully human.

But we internalize and transfer our oppression daily. It’s a smog. We all breathe it in & act it out.

And then tell WoC “girl ain’t you supposed to be a _______? Why you doing ____?”

Can I live?

And don’t go reading anything personal into this-this isn’t about me necessarily and it’s no subtweet (I try hard not to do that.)

I’ve just been observing that behavior more and more lately. Especially when it comes to marginalized folks.

Evolution should be our aspiration.

“Can’t knock the hustle” should be our anthem.

As long as someone isn’t bringing active and continual harm, why can’t they explore their many sides?

The other strange thing that has started happening is pictures of Ram appearing sans Sita. “Jai Siya Ram” has become “Jai Shri Ram”. Some people disingenuously explain it as being the same thing - because Shri is a name of Lakshmi. Not really. Siya is an apbhransh of Sita. 4


Shri is a prefix of respect in this case. Hinduism is being militarised. A woman/Sita has no place in it. Even the militaristic Goddess that is Durga has no place in this conception of neo-Hindu divinity, as evidenced by Dilip Mandal wondering where Durga came from. 5

This is a pretty valiant attempt to defend the "Feminist Glaciology" article, which says conventional wisdom is wrong, and this is a solid piece of scholarship. I'll beg to differ, because I think Jeffery, here, is confusing scholarship with "saying things that seem right".


The article is, at heart, deeply weird, even essentialist. Here, for example, is the claim that proposing climate engineering is a "man" thing. Also a "man" thing: attempting to get distance from a topic, approaching it in a disinterested fashion.


Also a "man" thing—physical courage. (I guess, not quite: physical courage "co-constitutes" masculinist glaciology along with nationalism and colonialism.)


There's criticism of a New York Times article that talks about glaciology adventures, which makes a similar point.


At the heart of this chunk is the claim that glaciology excludes women because of a narrative of scientific objectivity and physical adventure. This is a strong claim! It's not enough to say, hey, sure, sounds good. Is it true?
