Srimad Bhagavatham - affection of Yasoda mentioned by Sri Sukar

Yasoda is being described wearing a nice saree with other ornaments and whipping yogurt. Even though she had other servants, she preferred to do it herself as she had so much of affection for Him. 1

kSoumam vAca: prutu kadi tadE biBrati sUtra nadir

க்ஷமும் வாச ப்ருது கடி தடே பிப்ரதி ஸுத்ர நத்தம்

The sound her ornaments were making along with the sound of whipping yogurt was a Shruti gItA to wake Krishna up.

He wakes up lazily from his cradle, saunters over, 2

hugs her neck and places his small chin against hers face with his hand on the churn to prevent her from continuing the work and asks for milk.

She hugs him tightly, starts feeding him whilst continuing her churn.

At that time, the milk on the stove overflowed 3

and she had to leave abruptly (that milk was also for Krishna) to turn it off which annoyed Krishna.

He broke the pot with the yogurt that had just recently been whipped, gobbled it up and left pretending to be angry.

There was a mortar in the back of the house upon 4

which he sat comfortably. His Leela was such that He pretended to cry even though he was eating yogurt.

Subsequently, Yasoda got angry at his petulance, tied Him to the mortar and every time the rope was short. She was so exhausted, and Krishna felt sympathetic and 5

Srimad Ramayanam - qualities of Lord Rama

Ramayanam starts with a satsangam between Valmiki Bhagawan and Sage Narada with former asking 16 questions enquiring about a human in their contemporary time with the following qualities: 1

கோன்வஸ்மின் ஸம்ப்ரதம் லோகே குணவான் கஷ்ச்ச வீர்யவான்
தர்மஜ்நஸ்ய க்ரிதஞஸ்ய சத்ய வாக்கியோ த்ரடவ்ரத:
சாரித்ரேன ச கோ யுக்த: சர்வ பூதேஷு கோ ஹித:
வித்வான் க க சமர்தஸ்ச கஷ்ச்சைக பிரியதர்ஷின:
ஆத்மவான் கோ ஜிதக்ரோத: ட்யுதிமான் கோனசூயக:
கஸ்ய பிப்யதி தேவாஸ்ச்ச ஜாத ரோஷஸ்ச்ச சம்யுகே 2

kOnvasmin sAmpratam lOkE gunavAN kaSca vIryavAN
Darmajnasya kritajnasya satyavAkyO dratavrataH
cAritrEna ca kOyuktaH sarva bUtESu kO hitaH
viDvAN ka ka samartaSca kaScaika priya DarSanaH
AtmavAN kO jiDakrODaH dyuDimAN kOnasUyakaH
kasya bibyaDi DevAsca jADa rOSaSca samyuGE 3

1) குணவான் (gunavAN) - virtuous person

2) கஷ்ச்ச வீர்யவான் (kaSca vIryavAN) - valorous / vigorous

3) தர்மஜ்நஸ்ய (Darmajnasya) - unwavering in their dharma or conscientious

4) க்ரிதஞஸ்ய (kritajnasya) - who always remembers good deeds done by others (grateful) 4

5) சத்ய வாக்கியோ (satyavAkyO) - speaking truth

6) த்ரடவ்ரத (DratavrataH) - who always fulfils promises, determined in his deed

7) சாரித்ரேன ச கோ யுக்த (cAritrEna ca kO yuktaH) - appropriate in disposition 5

Srimad Ramayanam - jnAnam through guru katAkSam

Sabhari mOkSam is an episode in Aranya Kandam which is considered to be mOkSa kAndam.

In my earlier article, I had written about the importance of guru that gets highlighted through the interaction between Bhagawan and Sabhari. 1

Let us look at what that guru katAkSam will do.

Sabhari was a vagabond, who by chance stumbled onto Rishi Mathanga. He found that she’s a clean soul and worthy of being given tAraka brahmam and offered that to her.

Sabhari enquired as to what the name meant. 2

An ideal guru is someone who gives Narayana, and so with Rishi Mathanga being one, he said that the meaning of that name (tAraka brahmam) will find its way to her abode.

When Rama and Lakshmana visited Sabhari’s abode, the former enquired about the progress of her penance 3

and if it materialised.

Sabhari’s jnAnam was complete with Rishi Mathanga’s katAkSam and this reflected in her response to Rama.

She answered intelligently -

aDyaprAptA tapa siDDiH tava sanDarSanAn maya
aDyamE sapalam janma taptam GuruvaSca supUjitA: 4

அத்ய ப்ராப்தா தப சித்திஹி தவ சந்தர்ஷனான் மயா
அத்ய மே சபலம் ஜன்ம தப்தம் குருவஷச்ச ஸுபூஜித:

My tapas materialised upon seeing you. This happened due to guru katAkSam and my sEvA to him who predicted this event in advance.

She further added boldly 5

Why is it important to listen Krishna Bala leelA

Mind has an incessant tendency to keep wandering and thoughts are the waves that never stops.

The proclivity of the mind is like a parasite that it latches on to something. The attraction could be caused by 1

different emotions such as taste, fear, anger, arts etc. entertainment such as watching telly or movie or theatre is exactly for that.

So, all practices prescribed in the religious texts is essentially to curb or control it.

Therefore, it is essential to identify an object which is worthy enough to ensure the thought waves are able to get attracted to.

There’s no other object in the universe that meets any of the parameters such as
- Beauty
- Worthiness
- Value 3

Pleasing
Heartwarming and so on

than Krishna. There’s no limit to the content experienced by mind towards Krishna. The only form of Bhagawan that evokes such a desire is Bala Krishna and not any other rupA (for example Narasimha).

யத் த்ரைலோக்ய மஹீயஸோபி மஹிதம்

Some qualities of Lord Rama

Qualities of Bhagawan are considered countless (or அனந்தம்), one can experience it only to extent he gets exposed. His avatars are also countless (avatarAt hasankyEyAt) and each had a purpose for that time and we don’t remember each of the 1

avatars as much as rAmA avatar because of His qualities.

The beauty of rAmA avatar is His profound display of characters that, even SitA (சாக்‌ஷாத் மஹாலக்ஷ்மி/Mahalakshmi) was captivated by them.

One of the qualities is humility (வினயம்) and let’s look at some instances. 2

Aranya Kandam: two types of saranagati gets done by sages in the forest, those that aspire for mOkSA( mumukSu) and ArtA (out of despair due to troubles from rAkSaSAs).

In spite of being a saranyan and therefore with an ability to help, Perumal says that it 3

would be an honour/privilege to help them (vanavAsam mahOdayam). This is His quality (humility) and gets even better in Kishkinda Kandam.

Kishkinta Kandam: Sugriva gets his kingdom, respect restored by rAmA. But, when Hanuman comes to enquire about them, He says 4

‘ sugrivam Saranam gataH’ - we have come to surrender to Sugriva and get his help.

Sri Anna says that Bhagawan will come as someone who is dependent on others but will end up helping the person. This is His beauty and speaks volumes about His humility. 5

Statue of Equality (Ramanuja) Muchintal, Hyderabad, Telangana

The Statue of Equality is a monument in India dedicated to the 11th-century Vaishnavaite Sage Bhagavad Ramanuja, commemorating 1000 years since his birth. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in 2019.

In 2014, Sri Chinna Jeeyar came up with the idea to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Sri Ramanuja's teachings by building the Statue of Equality. The statue is constructed on an estimated 34 acres in Hyderabad, India.

It consists of a 216 foot tall statue of Ramanuja and is surrounded by 108 Divyadesams (model temples) and includes an educational gallery. The project budget is 1000 crore rupees.The foundation stone for the Statue of Equality was laid by Chinna Jeeyar.

The statue was built by Aerosun Corporation in China before being shipped to India. It is made of panchaloha, a combination of gold, silver, copper, brass and titanium. The statue relies on donations to fund its construction.

The temple is located on the 27,870 square metre second floor with a 120 kg statue of Ramanuja, representing the years he lived, meant for daily worship. The 1,365 square metre third floor including a Vedic digital library and research center.

This is Kuinini ‘Nini’ Manumua, the woman who was ultimately displaced by inclusion of Laurel Hubbard.

She’s 21, and it would have been her first Olympics.

Stories of Guruvayurappan
Shri Krishna Leela

This is a beautiful story of Guruvayurappan. Once there lived in Guruvayur a poor family. Kitta, his wife & kids were struggling for their daily needs. With only a coconut tree in house, he earned a living by selling coconuts.

Kitta was from a low caste family. He was a great devotee of Guruvayurappan. Everyday before going to work he always prayed infront of a picture of Guruvayurappan in his house. His only wish was to worship at Guruvayur & have annadanam in temple. But he was not allowed there

It was Utsavam time in Guruvayur. From far behind kitta and family worshipped Guruvayurappan. Annadanam was given daily and no one was left empty stomach. Only Kitta didn't receive. That night, it was only Kitta's family who was sleeping without food. After temple nada closed

Shri Krishna, dressed himself as a Brahmin went to temple Kitchen. He packed food and went directly to kitta's house. Reaching Kitta's house, Shri Krishna told he was sent by a cook of Guruvayur temple and gave them the food he packed. Kitta and family was very happy seeing food.

When Kitta finished his food, Brahmin asked it will be better if he get a tender coconut( karikku)to drink. Kitta climbed the tree and gave all coconuts to him. After having 1 tender coconut, the Brahmin asked to bring remaining coconuts to Guruvayur temple the next day.
