Tell me about a great movie-going experience you'll never forget.

Not as a memorial, but as a chance--right now--for us all to tap into that communal joy of the cinematic experience. pic.twitter.com/GqJfqUZ5as
The strange thing is that I don't think I had even heard of "Aladdin" until she said anything. Maybe? I'm not sure. But I don't remember feeling like we were expecting to see it. I don't remember being disappointed. But to her, I think it felt like one more way she had failed us.
This was in the final year of her marriage to her second husband--our first "stepfather"--and there were reasons the three of us were in this car and not back at our place with him and his two kids. He was very abusive, and these car rides felt like a break.
So, we were sitting there in the car while she was contemplating how to get us out of this situation, but by now, it had become almost a weekly ritual, which was not lost on us, obviously. So, we're sitting there, and she starts crying and says the thing about "Aladdin".
And then, while crying, she says: "You've never been to the movies," which was true. My sister and I had not been to a movie theater up to that point in our short lives. I remember saying "that's okay", and my sister said the same and put her little hand on my mother's arm.
Administrative bloat is the employing of so many managers and supervisors, paying them excess salaries, while the people who do the actual work don't get employed or paid.
That is the government of Kenya.
The Government has failed its very own.

Being a doctor under the Jubilee Government should be listed in the 1000 days to die.
A colleague went to school for 6 years after passing their KCSE.
The 6 year struggle ends and alas you are Dr naniii.
Since the time of GoK's mother the colonial government, and its grandmother the British East Africa company, the role of the state is to control workers, control our work and its produce, and send it up the foodchain through chiefs, paramount chiefs all the way to London.
One of the cultural lies these parasistes have sold to us is that the only work that can be exploited is where there is a tangible product like tea or coffee. No. These exploit EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING. Health, education, faith, religion...EVERTYHING.
Elites are parasites. They can't work, won't work. How do they live, then? From taking away the work that we do. They use the state (especially weapons) to threaten us, and they get bureaucrats and managers to distract workers and push the loot up the gravy train.
That is why the less the elites work, the more bureaucrats the employ to protect them from direct contact with us "peasants." That's the function of civil servants. To steal our work on behalf of the elite, while conning us that we're working out of national duty.
OKAY!
Yes... that was my very dramatic first reaction.
Yes... we still have viable paths to victory.
But now we must do more than hold the line. We need to start looking ahead to what victory will really look like.
Because as I've tried to show you, They have.
Stop talking nonsense. HOLD THE LINE if you are a true Patriot! https://t.co/eoQdYohZwV

Here is what we absolutely know to be true:
1. They fucking cheated.
And it wasn't just Biden. Senators, Representatives, State Attorney Generals, Governors, Mayors... all the local initiatives...
We really do not yet know the extent of the this. If those currently in positions of power are legitimately there by the will of the people.
We don't know if the procedures that allowed this were put in place by officials with no rights to the offices that allowed them to do so.

2. We know half of this nation and all of the rest of the world is being told that even Trump's own (illegitimately gained) Supreme Court is against him.
I have family in Italy & Germany. They were shocked to discover there was any reason to doubt the legitimacy of Biden's win.
The media has absolutely and with clear intent fabricated a narrative and are acting in concert to spread it faster and farther than COVID.
Hey, non sequitor: isn't it funny that in the Hunger Games she was a Mockingjay?
That's a bird that mocks, right?
A mocking bird?

And on fish and level playing field. The latter seems, has always seemed, the most problematic, because the UK has apparently ruled out any compromise on shared minumum levels even if not automatic. That would be a deal breaker, but seems... unnecessary.
1/ On fish, both sides are far apart, but it sounds like the UK wants the EU to jump first before it, in turn, shows flexibility. The UK is offering a three year phase in but with an upfront payment of \u20ac300m in demersal fish (ie, out of the \u20ac650m EU boats catch in UK waters)

Your reminder closing complex deals is never easy. But there are ways to facilitate and EU is good at doing this if you meet their red lines. But still the biggest concern that the UK never understood level playing field terms are fundamental to the EU.
In case it wasn't obvious the final choreography of a complex trade deal is complex. The big issues, and potentially some smallprint / related matters of relevance to both sides (for example I wonder if soon after a deal we hear about data or financial services equivalence?)

In the UK, one man's decision. Allegedly backed by a Cabinet who in reality will be quite happy to blame the PM either way. The temptation to send Michael Gove to seal the deal and end his leadership ambitions must be there...
Fact is: EU objectives/focus unlikely to change much in remaining 24-48 hours: fish, non-regression & ability to retaliate across sectors/entire agreement in case of systematic divergence by HMG

Most in Cabinet want a deal. @BorisJohnson has big decision he now needs to make https://t.co/mJ49WLt3Qd
