On Wednesday 3 cis women gave evidence to the @Commonswomequ select committee on #GRA reform. These panellists spent the majority of their allocated time arguing that proposed reform has the potential to harm cis women due to the presence of trans women in ‘women’s’ spaces

Yet anyone who has knowledge about the issues at stake knows that changes proposed to the GRA would have absolutely no impact here. There is no connection as the Equality Act, by recognising trans women as women, ensures their right to women’s spaces such as toilets

The arguments presented at @Commonswomequ by these panellists were thus completely irrelevant- they might as well have been arguing that changes to the GRA would lead to a rise in the price of bread - and should have been told so by the committee Chair.

Moreover, they presented no evidence in support of their (irrelevant) claims. When pushed, one study from Sweden was cited. Anyone who knows this study, however, knows that it does not do what was claimed - indeed the author has explicitly asked for it not to be used in this way.

Their evidence therefore is based on the views of supporters of trans hostile organisations such as WPUK who all 3 panellists have some involvement with. In light of this, I also did some quick and dirty research.

The goal posts for access constantly shift at this court, in a completely arbitrary manner. We are currently being told by a court official that no journalists will be allowed in (told they can access the Cloud Video Platform) and only two people can access the public gallery. 2/

So I was thinking about yesterday, and what it's safe to talk about with respect to work. I'm gonna take *some* risk here, but ... essentially, I'm not a ROM hacker or an emudev. Those are hobbies. My specific talent is reverse engineering, which is a much more broad category.

Not all ROM hackers are reverse engineers. There are level editors, generic compression tools, script editors, hex editors, etc that can be used. Most emudevs are also not reverse engineers; instead they rely on documentation, test ROMs, and emulator source to make their emus.

In fact, that's how I made all my other higan cores. But my fan translations, and bsnes, that was reverse engineering. I have taken apart a good 30% of Bahamut Lagoon and completely replaced entire menu systems with my own code. When I started on the SNES, ...

The information was just *barely* past what the SNES developer manuals contained. I took us from opcode-accuracy to sub-cycle accuracy (clock edge accurate.) Every emulator since was based on bsnes: Super Nt, MiSTer, Mesen-S, etc. They all used my code and research.

But what got me noticed was reverse engineering the NEC uPD and contributing that code to Stephen Hawking's voice emulator. My hobbies, unfortunately, are just not profitable. Only Yuzu can earn money like that. What the head hunter wanted with me was reverse engineering mastery.

There appears to have been policy capture at the highest levels, within our government, LA’s, NHS and other orgs. These places have made preemptive assumptions on advice from lobby groups that they proudly display champion badges for and pay thousands of pounds to each year. 5/

The Transition from the old to the new.

The QFS is alive and doing its snoopy thing, but it is not yet active with accounts. How is the old going to transition to the new? This is a good question./1

The QFS must be active when the RV/Redemption takes place because all RV and Redemption funds will be placed in the QFS as gold-back currencies in the currency of the nation where the RV or the Redemption takes place./2

I have finally recovered emotionally enough to tell the story of a Zoom corporate gig I did earlier this year which ended with the client interrupting what I was doing, asking me to do something else, and me responding by playing "Happy Birthday" on the clarinet and hanging up.

I was booked to do half an hour of comedy over Zoom for the furloughed employees of a financial tech company. I was given some instructions - "Make fun of Harry for his haircut, and for Phil Booth [names changed] for his lack of one!" I took this to mean that Phil Booth was bald.

I was also specifically asked to do my "Star Wars routine." This was a routine I wrote for geek comedy night @DearHarrySpock in January that requires in-depth knowledge of Star Wars Episode IX, but the client said "Quite a few of my staff will really love it!"

I was also told that all the employees would have been sent a hamper containing Champagne and chocolate biscuits, and decided to incorporate this into my act so I had one as well, so I went out and bought a bottle of Champagne, a hamper and some chocolate biscuits.

My approach to comedy usually revolves around getting things wrong, being stupid, messing up, making mistakes, being silly. I wasn't sure how to communicate this tone in the context of a Zoom corporate without it just looking like everything I had planned to do was going wrong.

I grew up in a little town in northern Iowa. About 3,100 people lived there then.

It was a different time.

Both sides of my family had lived in my hometown, or on farms a few miles out, for more than one hundred years.

My grandpa had a business on Main Street that my dad took over when grandpa got sick.

I knew nearly everybody.

There were no “helicopter parents” then and the only teenagers who had cars were older boys who bought them used and beat-up and liked to tinker under the hood.

I walked everywhere — to school, to Girl Scouts meetings, to piano lessons, to babysitting jobs, to Friday night football games at the high school, to the movie theater on Saturday afternoons. We all did.

I walked even in the dark, though I was sometimes afraid.

But I knew who lived in just about every house that I passed. It was a comfort.
