The Dahomey Kingdom — present-day Benin — During the 18th and 19th centuries, it was one of the most powerful kingdoms in Africa. The nation had one of Africa’s biggest armies at the time, including the powerful Dahomey Amazons. It also had extensive foreign trade with different

European nations. A robust economy, as well as a highly functioning political structure. Although the kingdom was so strong, the French colonized it in 1894. But they did not go down without a fight led by Dahomey’s last king, known as King Shark.

Behanzin Hossu Bowelle was born in 1844, in the capital of Dahomey, Abomey. He was the son of King Glele, who at that time was king of Dahomey. Behanzin became the 11th king of Dahomey when his father died. He soon came to be known as the King Shark.

A king is given a name reflecting his personal symbols, as per Dahomey’s custom. The dolphin, the egg and the coconut palm trees are representations.

Imagine the state of Abu Bakr's heart as he guides his father towards prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

To take shahada and to give Bayah to the prophet.

So when the prophet sees Abu Quhafa he tells, why didn’t you leave the old man in his home I would have come to him.

This is the Nabi of Allah, he just conquered Makkah and yet his priority is to ease an old man's hardship, he is saying to a non-Muslim, I will come to you if you want to accept Islam.

IGP ASSURES THE NATION OF IMPROVED SECURITY IN 2021

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has assured Nigerians of improved security in the year 2021. The IGP stressed that the Force will be unrelenting in the fight against all forms of crimes especially kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, cultism, ...

cybercrime, Sexual/Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), amongst others in the country in the year 2021. The IGP assured that the NPF will implement aggressive, proactive, intelligence-driven and community-based crime fighting strategies in its quests to make the country safer.

He promised the Force will take the battle to the door steps of the criminals and also expand its collaboration with the citizens and other Law Enforcement Agencies in its bid to flush out criminal elements in the country.

So that’s how I went to Idu Station yesterday to see the new Automated Fare Collection system at work. Told that 85% of tickets bought for the 7am to KD were bought online. People are abandoning their initial skepticism and starting to trust the system more. Here’s what’s changed

Anyone familiar with rail travel between Kaduna and Abuja in the last few years is fully aware of just how stressful getting tickets can be. People showing up several hours ahead and not even sure they’ll get a ticket. A whole industry of touting arose to fill the gap. Naturally.

In Dec 2020, NRC finally launched its Automated Fare Collection (AFC) System, for the Abuja-Kaduna Line. The contract (I’ve talked about this in a previous thread) covers among other things Speedstiles, Validators and Ticket Vending machines at all the Stations. Rollout ongoing.

A couple of things to note:

You either buy on web or download an App (Android / iPhone)

You have to create a profile to log-in. So all tickets linked to profiles

For now you can only buy a day in advance - i.e. tickets for today or tomorrow. Will eventually expand that window

Here’s what happens when you have an invalid ticket ie a used or expired ticket. Also if you buy a ticket to Station 3, get on train and then travel past Station 3 and come off at Station 5, the system will not allow you to exit the station. You’ll have to pay penalty fare.
