An option buyer made Rs. 58 lacs from Rs. 2 lac capital in a span of just one month (March 2020 COVID crash).

He is none other than Mr. Subasish Pani.

THREAD: 11 things you must know to become an option buyer.

 •Don't get carried away with the kind of return that Mr. Pani made in such a short period of time.

•This requires a high level of skill, and discipline in terms of which strike to choose, which time to trade, and which days to trade.

•It also comes with higher drawdown.
1/ Screen Time:

• Indian markets function from 9:15-15:30.

• Dividing this time zone into 3 sub parts:
- 9:15 to 10:30: trending market
- 10:30 to 13:30: for retracement
- 13:30 to 3:30: trending market

2/ Focus on momentum:

• Option buyers make money when the momentum is quick.

• However if the market remain sideways for few days then the option starts to lose its value.

• This is because theta decay works against option buyers.
3/ Option buyers need momentum to make money:

• Hence focus on the 1st & 2nd time zone where the markets are trending.

• Avoid taking trades between 10:30am till 13:30.

• Special focus on Wednesday & Thursday as premiums are low and if you can catch momentum then good R/R.
4/ Theta decay is a friend of option seller:

• Let's say the market view is -ve and market stays sideways or goes down, option sellers will still make money due to theta decay.

• Hence, the probability of winning for option sellers is 66.6% whereas for buyers its 33.3%.
5/What's the favorable risk to reward (R/R):

• Since the winning probability of an option buyer is 33.3%, the edge is maintained by keeping losses at a fraction of gains.

Hence, R/R has to be 1:4.
6/ Why deep OTMs doesn't work?

• Most of the option buyers select deep OTMs , but they have a higher probability of losing value as time passes away.

• Hence, deep OTMs are usually favorite of option sellers.

•Option buyers should select strikes near to Rs. 100.
7/ Should option buyers focus on ATM?

• ATM strikes, having prems near to 200-300 is highly volatile. Hence the SL for ATM would be minimum Rs. 40-50.

• R/R is 1:4, then the reward should be atleast Rs. 160-200 which looks slightly challenging.

• So stay away from ATMs.
8/ Find the sweet spot!

• ATMs are too volatile and far OTMs lose value quickly, therefore the golden mean is to select option in the range of Rs. 100

• Rs. 100 option doesn't have that kind of volatility that ATM has and Rs. 20-25 SL works, without getting stopped out.
9/ On expiry days which premium to focus?

• During expiry's one can work with Rs. 40 - 50 especially post 12:30 noon.

• At times the 2pm moves are ferocious and one can even work with Rs. 20-25 premium.

10/ Have no regrets:

• We don't know the target, we can only book as per our R/R.

• One can never capture the entire move in option buying.

• Be satisfied with what you book rather than having regrets of exiting the trade early.
11/ Scaling up:

• Choose option buying because it interests you rather than opting for it due to lack of capital.

•Psychological issues would be higher while scaling up due to the MTM swings in option buying.

1/What is Fibonnaci (Fibo) retracement?:

•Fibo retracement levels help us to identify potential reversal area or identifying potential entry point after a pullback.

•It represents various levels of significance within a swing high and low.

2/How to plot the Fibo?

•Spot the recent swing high & swing low (usually a peak & a low) on a chart.

•Plot the Fibo on these points.

•You'll get 5 key levels of support & resistance (S/R) in between the peak & low.

•Key Fibonacci ratios: 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, & 100%.

3/ Importance of retracement levels:

• The retracement level forecast can determine the level at which retracement is likely to occur.

• These retracement levels offer traders a favourable entry to open new trades in the direction of the trend.

4/ When to apply Fibo:

•Fibonacci analysis can be applied when there is a noticeable up-move or down-move in prices.

•Applying it in range bound markets would turn out to be a futile exercise.

POSITION SIZING

Sizing is the key, you'll make big money only if you own a significant size without compromising on risk.

Here are 10 of them, and they are for free: 🧵

1/ For a faster growth, one needs to have a bigger size:

• What difference would it make if a stock moves by 300%?

• But then, what if you had only 1% capital allocation?

• Despite the stock performing spectacularly, your account won't reflect the same, due to small sizing.

2/ Three types of position sizing:

1. Fixed absolute Rupee amount that one is willing to risk.
2. % risk of the total capital.
3. Basis the edge.

Risk tolerance should be taken into consideration while determining appropriate position sizing.

3/ Fixed absolute Rupee Amount:

• Eg: Total capital is Rs. 10 lacs and the max risk per trade is Rs. 7500

• Lets say a stock is trading at 1200 and your SL is 1120 (i.e. your risk per unit us Rs. 1200-1120 =Rs. 80)

• Optimum qty: 7500/80 = 94 units

4/ Percentage risk of total capital:

• Lets say you want to risk 1% of the total capital on each trade.

• Considering the total capital of Rs. 10 lacs, you shall risk Rs. 10,000 i.e. 1% of 10lacs on each trade.

• Quantity to be traded/invested calculation remains the same.

(2/25) First, a little about me. I used to be a licensed sexual assault crisis counselor, counseling victims admitted to one of three Minneapolis emergency rooms.

After I'd speak to the victim, they'd receive a medical exam from a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE).

(3/25) During the exam, DNA and other evidence is collected with a "rape kit" to optionally be used in a civil or criminal case.

(4/25) But collecting evidence is not the ONLY reason to receive an exam.

The victim may also receive:
- counseling (hello!)
- treatment for (potentially invisible) injuries
- medications like Plan B and emergency antiretroviral therapy for HIV prophylaxis.

(5/25) Leda Health, a startup cofounded by Madison Campbell and Liesel Vaidya, is raising money to sell "do-it-yourself" rape kits that wouldn't require a hospital visit

A THREAD ON SL, TSL AND RE-ENTRIES-


WHERE TO PUT THE SL-

1. NEAREST PIVOT/SWING POINTS-

Normally I use this method for placing sl, In this method we use swing point for placing the SL.

As normally the stock would not try to go below previous swing point if it is to go in our direction.


2. ATR method-

Sometimes the Stock do not have any nearest pivot at time of buy, So we use this method as it gives us a level on basis of current volatility of the stock.

I use 1.5 ATR away sl , say the ATR at point of entry is 30, so I place sl
1.5 X, or 45 rs away from entry

In below example the entry is 120, ATR=5, SL= 1.5X ATR= 7.5 OR 113.

Nearest pivot was too far away, that’s why this method is used in these cases.


4. Anchor candles-

Anchor bars are those which have extreme Volume, gaps or wide Ranges.

Here, we place our sl below those candles which has the above characteristics.

That makes sense. The bank gives you a loan and in case you don’t pay, the bank will take over your house and sell it and recover its money.

That’s collateral.

Banks also lend money to big corporations. With them, banks don’t always have collateral.

So a loan where the bank has collateral is considered safer for the bank.

In the early 2000s, the banks in the USA were giving out loans to people for buying houses.

The economy had just recovered from the tech bubble in 2000 where many banks had given out loans to businesses that had shut down.

In that backdrop, the banks found giving home loans safer.

Agastya Muni & Kaveri River

This is a story which describes how River Kaveri was brought on earth by Agastya muni. There was a king named Kavera lived in the Brahmagiri hills who prayed to Brahma for a child. He was blessed with a daughter whom he named Kaveri.


Agastya muni married her. A demon, named Shoorapadma, wanted to trouble people so he prevented rain from reaching South India. As a result famine occurred in South India.
Agastya Muni who came that way was very sad seeing this. He started to pray Mahadeva for a solution.


Shiva gave him small amount of Ganga water in his Kamandalu (small pot) and said wherever you spill this water the river will flow from there. Agastya Muni travelled lot of places to find a suitable place to pour water. Feeling tired he kept his Kamandalu and took rest.


At that time Ganesha took a form of crow and perched on the Kamadalu and made a hole that water began to flow as river Kaveri. This place is now called as Talakaveri (Karnataka), located in the Brahmagiri hill.


Tala Kaveri has temple for Agastheeswara, which denotes the story between Kaveri and Agasthya muni. Kaveri is a part of Ganga, thus, also called Dakshina Ganga.

3) Really just to reiterate 1) Gyimah is the kind of "No, never gonna rebel" vaguely pro-EU Tory you'd need to get on side to outweigh Labour Leavers and Real Concerners.
