THREAD: 11 things you must know to become an option buyer.

 •Don't get carried away with the kind of return that Mr. Pani made in such a short period of time.

•This requires a high level of skill, and discipline in terms of which strike to choose, which time to trade, and which days to trade.

•It also comes with higher drawdown.
1/ Screen Time:

• Indian markets function from 9:15-15:30.

• Dividing this time zone into 3 sub parts:
- 9:15 to 10:30: trending market
- 10:30 to 13:30: for retracement
- 13:30 to 3:30: trending market

2/ Focus on momentum:

• Option buyers make money when the momentum is quick.

• However if the market remain sideways for few days then the option starts to lose its value.

• This is because theta decay works against option buyers.
3/ Option buyers need momentum to make money:

• Hence focus on the 1st & 2nd time zone where the markets are trending.

• Avoid taking trades between 10:30am till 13:30.

• Special focus on Wednesday & Thursday as premiums are low and if you can catch momentum then good R/R.
4/ Theta decay is a friend of option seller:

• Let's say the market view is -ve and market stays sideways or goes down, option sellers will still make money due to theta decay.

• Hence, the probability of winning for option sellers is 66.6% whereas for buyers its 33.3%.
5/What's the favorable risk to reward (R/R):

• Since the winning probability of an option buyer is 33.3%, the edge is maintained by keeping losses at a fraction of gains.

Hence, R/R has to be 1:4.
6/ Why deep OTMs doesn't work?

• Most of the option buyers select deep OTMs , but they have a higher probability of losing value as time passes away.

• Hence, deep OTMs are usually favorite of option sellers.

•Option buyers should select strikes near to Rs. 100.
7/ Should option buyers focus on ATM?

• ATM strikes, having prems near to 200-300 is highly volatile. Hence the SL for ATM would be minimum Rs. 40-50.

• R/R is 1:4, then the reward should be atleast Rs. 160-200 which looks slightly challenging.

• So stay away from ATMs.
8/ Find the sweet spot!

• ATMs are too volatile and far OTMs lose value quickly, therefore the golden mean is to select option in the range of Rs. 100

• Rs. 100 option doesn't have that kind of volatility that ATM has and Rs. 20-25 SL works, without getting stopped out.
9/ On expiry days which premium to focus?

• During expiry's one can work with Rs. 40 - 50 especially post 12:30 noon.

• At times the 2pm moves are ferocious and one can even work with Rs. 20-25 premium.

10/ Have no regrets:

• We don't know the target, we can only book as per our R/R.

• One can never capture the entire move in option buying.

• Be satisfied with what you book rather than having regrets of exiting the trade early.
11/ Scaling up:

• Choose option buying because it interests you rather than opting for it due to lack of capital.

•Psychological issues would be higher while scaling up due to the MTM swings in option buying.

1/ Know your type:

First and foremost, understand whether you are a Scalper or Intraday trader or Swing trader or Positional Trader.

Create an account in @tradingview

2/ Set the Time Frame (TF) of the Charts:

• Scalper: the TF you would use would be in the range of 1- 5min
• Intraday Trader: 5-15min TF
• Swing Trader: Hourly to Daily
• Positional Trader: Weekly


3/ Be aware of the trend at higher TF.

No matter which type of trader you are, its important to know the trend at higher TF.

Crucial to know whether its a buy on dip market or sell on rise market.

4/ Identify the major Demand & Supply Zone:

Sep 23, 2021 - Weekly expiry, preceded by the FOMC meet and not to mention the gap up which then turned out to be a trending day

Here’s how the strangles were converted into straddles & how the positions were managed!

Time for a Thread 🧵

• Wednesday night (IST) there was an event, FOMC meet
• Markets were jittery, as they say, when US sneezes the world catches cold
• Both Dow & Nifty were weak
• All eyes were fixed on the Fed Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s take on interest rate and the pace of asset purchases

• So didn’t wanted to get caught on the wrong side, hence on Wednesday noon Shorted a strangle
• ~700-800 points away from where the BNF was about to close i.e. 37k levels
• 37800 CE @ 43 & 37700 CE @ 34 & 36200 PE 28 & 36300 PE at 34


• On Wednesday 37K strike witnessed heavy CE & PE Open interest 2.5mn & 2mn of CE & PE writing respectively


• On Wed night, the cat was out of the bag and Mr. Powell kept interest rates at zero & continued the current pace of asset purchases
• Dow celebrated the news and on Thursday morning (weekly expiry) i.e. Sep 23, 2021 BNF opened with a gap up of ~300 points and opened at 37241

Trend-lines are support and resistance lines which are formed by connecting Important swing points.

The beauty of using them is that We can use them when stock is not Respecting the Horizontal S&R zones, they can indicate us when the trend may change.

// Things To consider while Making trendlines?

• A trendline formed by using 3 Major-Swing points is a potential trendline, But we will also use 2 points to form a trendline, will discuss how, as you read further.

• Trendline can be formed by two ways-

1. Wicks-

In this method we only connect the wicks to make a trendline, this is a precise way of making a trendline.


// Why only connect the wicks?

There are two type of levels - Precise and Less precise (Which we call zones).

Wanted to share my thoughts on this topic for a long time but this email sent by someone yday woke me up from slumber

In the past 1-2 years, there has been a sudden surge of traders who just talk about theta decay, option selling, adjustments and stuff like that..

It is all fair as long as the trader knows what he's doing. But the reality is far from what we see/perceive...

Many of these folks were told that one can 'adjust' their way out of any situation. Any sane options trader know that you cannot come out of any situation by adjustment

One of my friend used to do that(he is famous in options selling desi fintwit) for a long time until..

..he realized that one cannot possibly do that and its gonna burn him one day. He's pretty smart and hence, he put a portfolio level SL & when that hits, he will stop dancing, gets out and calls it a day

So, risk is managed at account level and he is quite clear about it

Unfortunately, 1000s of traders who does option selling(with adjustment) dont have this risk mgmt in place.

They think (i dont know if i had to call it false confidence or ignorance) their skills in 'adjusting' will take them ashore 😅

What is pyramiding?

In pyramiding we add on to a position when it is going in our direction. Its basically opposite of averaging down.

MOMENTUM - Success of a pyramiding trade depend on this ingredient, the more the momentum the better pyramiding.


There are many way to enter and exit in a stock-

1. ALL IN - ALL OUT
2. ALL IN - SCALE OUT
3. SCALE IN - SCALE OUT
4. SCALE IN - ALL OUT ( I use this one)

Why traders use Pyramiding ?

More than anything what pyramiding do is keep your losers small and your winners - Big.

Pyramiding in my view keeps your dd smaller as your losers are very small because you enters with only a fraction of what you would have entered Normally.

BUT, not necessarily it should be more profitable than ALL IN- ALL OUT, Where one enters all at once and sell all at once.

HOW TO DO PYRAMIDING-

There are various methods which are used by traders for pyramiding ,while keeping the basic concept of adding onto the strength.

Located where Vasistha Godavari joins Bay of Bengal.

Present structure was built by Kapanati Krishnamma of Agnikula Kshatriya clan in 1823.

It is one of the oldest among 32 Narasimha Kshetras in AP.

Legend says that here Maharishi Vasishta prayed to Narasimha to end the demon Rakta Vilochana.

Narasimha created Maha Maya, also called Ashwaroodambika or Gurralakka to suck his blood as he got a boon from Brahma that blood falling from his body would produce another demon.


After his death, the stream of blood was let out by Maya to form a pond called Rakta Kulya.

Narasimha,then,washed Sudarshan Chakra at a place called Chakra Tirtha.

Brahma is said to have performed Yagna and installed Shiva Linga here. Hence the place was called Antarvedi.


Later Sri Rama prayed here and Arjun also visited here.

Panchamrita Abhishekam is done every day.
One can have Nijarupa Darshanam (main murti without any decorative shield) between 6.00 a.m. and 8.00 a.m.

Anna Prasadam is very famous and distributed daily from 10:30 to 2 pm.

Observing the public conversation around FB, and the private ones happening among techies and ex-FBers, I think the mutual misunderstanding is worse than when I set out two years (and 500 pages) ago to (in a small way) bridge that gulf.

We're basically fucked.

The tech world has gotten so huge, self-reinforcing, and insulated from reality they can no longer even vaguely look at themselves (and their actions) as others do. They just live on a different planet than most people.

Conversely, the average tech consumer doesn't understand the technology that has slowly taken over their lives, and their designated emissaries to figure it out--politicians, pundits, regulators, journalists--understand it barely better than they do, and have their own agendas.

To say more than generalities for a moment, here's what I think is likely the core problem.

Techies take weird, improbable visions, and make them realities: some BS pitch deck to a VC, mixed with money and people, really does turn into some novel thing.

Most people work inside a legacy industry that's evolved that way over time (usually for good reasons), and they think about the future via some analogy with their present (which is a function of a long-ago past). The interruption that tech will introduce is often hard to grasp.

Agastya Muni & Kaveri River

This is a story which describes how River Kaveri was brought on earth by Agastya muni. There was a king named Kavera lived in the Brahmagiri hills who prayed to Brahma for a child. He was blessed with a daughter whom he named Kaveri.


Agastya muni married her. A demon, named Shoorapadma, wanted to trouble people so he prevented rain from reaching South India. As a result famine occurred in South India.
Agastya Muni who came that way was very sad seeing this. He started to pray Mahadeva for a solution.


Shiva gave him small amount of Ganga water in his Kamandalu (small pot) and said wherever you spill this water the river will flow from there. Agastya Muni travelled lot of places to find a suitable place to pour water. Feeling tired he kept his Kamandalu and took rest.


At that time Ganesha took a form of crow and perched on the Kamadalu and made a hole that water began to flow as river Kaveri. This place is now called as Talakaveri (Karnataka), located in the Brahmagiri hill.


Tala Kaveri has temple for Agastheeswara, which denotes the story between Kaveri and Agasthya muni. Kaveri is a part of Ganga, thus, also called Dakshina Ganga.
