BSP's new inflation forecasts:
2020: 2.6% (from 2.4%)
2021: 3.2% (from 2.7%)
2022: 2.9%
BSP: The higher estimates are due to global oil prices, rising food costs.
BSP: The outlook can be described as continuing to be benign.
Will BSP scale down regulatory relief given low takeup of loans? Deputy Governor Francis Dakila: There are green shoots that we are seeing that show increasing demand.
BSP on regulatory relief measures for bank: As the recovery remain tentative, domestic demand's trajectory remains on the downside. Given this, this emphasizes the need for continued policy support from the BSP.
BSP says such policy support shall continue to be in place until economic recovery comes underway.
BSP: The decision to withdraw monetary policy support will be considered 'very carefully'.
BSP: While monetary policy can be most effective in the crisis's first phase, gov't spending and structural measures have a much greater role in ensuring sustainable recovery, restoring the economy's potential growth output.
BSP: It can be emphasized that liquidity remains ample.
BSP on banks' reserve requirements: Any action will be data-dependent.
BSP: We have been looking at indicators of financial market activity, and market liquidity remains ample.
BSP: Liquidity-easing measures have so far released P1.9T to the financial system. That's almost 10% of the country's GDP. https://t.co/4w2ggBwlgF
BSP: We believe our policy actions are appropriate to underpin increased credit activity but uncertainty surrounding the pandemic has limited usual transmission of policy.
BSP: While financial market confidence remains fragile, business and consumer confidence is rising as COVID-19 vaccines are being delivered globally.

The Philippines still does not have vaccines ready for inoculation 9 months into local quarantine.
BSP: The uptick in inflation could probably be felt until the first half of 2021. Going further, we expect inflation to temper.
BSP: The inflation trajectory indicates a temporary shock.

Food prices, especially for vegetables, have been rising in recent weeks.
BSP: The key difference in today's episode is it's taking place when demand is muted, key structural reforms are already in place like liberalization of rice imports.
BSP: We would welcome greater circulation of liquidity in the economy, away from deposits in the various instruments of the BSP.

This week marks 12 months since Josephine Cashman supplied Andrew Bolt with a letter falsely attributed to a Yolngu lawman that Bolt published via NewsCorp on Jan 26 as parcel of his persecution of Bruce Pascoe. Cashman & Bolt still haven’t provided a satisfactory explanation

Terry Yumbulul didn’t write the letter and didn’t agree with its content. He said so himself in a video published the next day https://t.co/IJ6ricZeRi and in a written statement published later the same day


The weird thing was, it soon emerged that large sections of the letter had been cribbed from other sources. Weird because as a Yolngu lawman, Terry didn’t need to borrow his knowledge from unrelated, alternate sources ... pretty much verbatim

The fallout was swift. Bolt was compelled to do a correction on his column and Cashman was just as swiftly dumped from her position of the Morrison government’s Senior Advisory Group for an Indigenous Voice to Government

There was no apology from either of them or from NewsCorp tho, and with the assistance of Sky News After Dark they desperately attempted to obfuscate the reality that everybody involved had been caught out and left red faced

1./ Oh look! @ScotlandLgb have started 2021 as we mean to continue: opposing gender identity nonsense. We responded to a letter from the lavishly funded lobby group @LGBTIScotland. They’d complained about our ads in the Herald with a bunch of unsubstantiated assertions. 👇


2./ Tim Hopkins claimed @ALLIANCELGB doesn’t even represent a minority position among LGB peeps. Rich given Equality Network itself isn’t a representative body. It’s more a job creation scheme funded by the Scottish govt to keep lobbyists like Hopkins from the dole queue.

3./ The govt funnels tax payers money into Equality Network’s coffers so it can then lobby for the anti-gay, misogynistic and child harming policies the politicians would be a tad embarrassed to champion otherwise. I wonder why Tim i$ so worried about u$. 💷💷💷

4./ We pointed out we’ve thousands of passionate supporters after just a year; which is a better track record than the fruitcakes at @stonewalluk who after 30 years are set on destroying the legal definition and therefore effectively the protections for same sex attracted people.

Pretending that voting for Trump or denying climate change or suggesting the solution to every problem is more guns is a legitimate point of view, worthy of respect is not "how America works." It is how it dies.

People in a free society are entitled to any point of view no matter how obviously wrong or outlandish or destructive provided they do not impose their views on others.

But suggesting that something ignorant or divorced from reality warrants the same kind of treatment in public debate as something based in fact or at least credible is absurd and when done on behalf of a society in public media or academic settings it is self-destructive.

We would not grant media coverage or much bandwidth at all to a group that argued that unicorns exist or that there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Yet views like denying climate change or basing policy decisions on sweeping, obvious lies, are just as unsound.

Somewhere, somehow, judgments must be made. Some behaviors are wrong and must be condemned. Someone must challenge lies and demand facts. Coddling people who embrace idiocies does not help them no matter how loudly they demand to be coddled.

1. I was walking in the woods yesterday and I had an epiphany. It wasn’t one I wanted to have. I was thinking about today’s class, where we are reading Kimmerer’s ‘Gathering Moss’. I’ve taught Braiding Sweetgrass in multiple classes every year since 2016. It’s eminently teachable

2. Both books are beautifully written. Students uniformly enjoy them as assigned reading. They do a great job communicating to non-Indigenous folks the contours of basic Indigenous relationships to more-than-human beings. They’re wildly popular with white readers.

3. I’ve found Braiding Sweetgrass to be a great entry point for non-Indigenous folks to Indigenous scholarship. But this is where yesterday’s epiphany comes in. Neither Braiding Sweetgrass or Gathering Moss tends to the deep deep lineages of Indigenous scholarship in Canada or US

4. As the popularity of ‘Braiding Sweetgrass’ has soared, I’ve seen more and more white folks wax on about ‘braiding knowledge’. But they often don’t know any of the lineages of these concepts beyond what is presented in this one book. They confidently run with this.

5. Kimmerer does a commendable job of weaving in her own experiences, her family stories+nods to some very important knowledge keepers who deserve to be celebrated for their work. But Braiding Sweetgrass does not tend to the citational politics Sara Ahmed & others teach us about
