In my home, surrounded by my loved ones, I live my life “as a woman” for all intents and purposes.

When I step outside I join a community of diverse experiences and perspectives. It’s not a safe space. It’s not meant to be affirming. I am not a woman, and it matters. (Thread)

Though my family, my boyfriend and I make little reference to my being male, we are all aware of that fact. There is no deception, no games.

To make an effort to convince the world I am female is not the same thing. It is coercion. It is delusion. It is fundamentally wrong.

Stepping out and meeting the world as I am, a gender-nonconforming male, is brave. It’s scary. I know that what people think of me is what they think of ME.

Pretending to be a woman is not brave. Pretending there is no difference between men and women is not a victimless crime.

I love my brothers and sisters who struggle with gender dysphoria, however they choose to deal with it. It’s out of that love that I speak the truth, and ask them to do the same. We are beautiful and worthy as trans people not because we “change sex” but because we persevere.

The legacy we should leave future generations is that however you choose to live your life should be celebrated so long as it doesn’t harm anyone else. Not that we must feign becoming the opposite sex to be good enough, no matter who we hurt in the process.

If you’ve been watching #AHouseThroughTime you'll have seen the story of Thomas, a black boy who was a 'servant' of a family in Bristol until he ran away in 1759. Boys like Thomas often appeared in portraits and still-life paintings in this period.

The paintings were displayed as status symbols to highlight a family’s wealth and connections to overseas trade. In 1754, John had his portrait painted. Presumably it hung in the Wynne’s home. A novelty in North Wales, he became known as Jack Du, or in English, Jack Black.

When John arrived at Ynyscynhaiarn, he was possibly as young as 8, and ‘had no language other than sounds similar to the howling of a dog’. We can only begin to imagine how lonely and terrifying it must have been in a completely unfamiliar place with no way to communicate.

Trying to get my husband a Christmas present: a thread.

My husband is very hard to shop for. He is quite particular and buys everything he wants for himself anyway. But THIS year, he mentioned one thing one time, and it was perfect. All-weather mats for the Jeep. Great!

I'm texting the whole family like I'm pitching a multi-level marketing scheme. I am offering YOU the opportunity to get in on the ground floor and sponsor a floor mat and finally get this man something he actually needs and wants. Let me take this off your Christmas plate.

I have my friend @okmaher order the mats for me so it doesn't show up on the credit card. Oh, we are so clever! Surely, the mats will arrive at my home in a nondescript box just like every other Christmastime order!

Car dealership: Pulls up to the house, knocks on the door, and hands my husband a clear plastic bag full of cargo liner and floor mats. For those who do not know me, I am very invested in surprises, and clearly I need better op-sec. This was a stroke of bad luck.

But I have another Christmas present idea. And this one is EPIC. For those who don't know my story, I was married before, for 4 years to my 1st husband, Jake, who passed away suddenly in 2015. We had a beautiful, sassy 2-year-old daughter and I was pregnant with our second.

The Single Issue: A Thread about Microaggressions

I have a lot of friends and family who are single, many of them women. Sure, they might always or sometimes wish they had a good partner, but all of them are able to be happy, confident, and lead fulfilling lives as singles.

There's a stigma to being single in many circles, including or especially in Christian ones. Don't let ignorance or ignorant words destroy your capacity to enjoy yourself and your solitude!

These are some microaggressions that single women often endure.

After you've had a read, I'd love to hear from you about microaggressions you've faced so we can face them head on, together.

1. Being asked why she is single?

You wouldn’t ask someone why they were married so don’t ask single women why they’re single. It requires no justification. It requires no deeper understanding. Each person's circumstance impacts why they may/may not want to be in a relationship

2. Assuming a women’s singleness is of her personality

Women who are strong, independent or focused their careers or hobbies are often blamed for their single relationship status. They're expected to ignore those ambitions or interests in order to actively seek relationships.

When I worked on a report on the origins of violence in the north last year was when I lost all sympathy. They actively incubated a monster that is beyond being tamed now.

I'm going to reveal something in this thread that I guarantee most of you have never heard of before.

Are you aware that those in charge of northern Nigeria's political Islam establishment spent decades pacifying their horrendously poor constituents by promising them the land belonging to northern Christians once Sharia was implemented?

Let me give you a background.

Due to monogamous marriage which limits their population expansion, northern Christian land inheritance is largely linear, i.e the number of descendants fighting to inherit land from the father is limited, which gives them economic leverage in an area where land is the only asset

Northern muslims on the other hand, have extremely diluted inheritance because the patriarch can have 4 wives and 17 children, 8 of whom might be male. Simply put, there is not enough land to go round which leads to extreme wealth disparity within Muslim areas.

This is why Sharia was championed by northern political actors and enthusiastically welcomed by northern proles - it was a bone for politicians like Yerima to throw to the masses, and the masses genuinely believed that land belonging to the 'arne' would be distributed to them.

Apply a material outlook.

A lot of these women make a claim to be defending the ways which men might woo a woman. To help the men get a woman and heal a fracture between the two with the eventual goal of children.

A material outlook ignores what is said as it's assumed it can't be trusted or known by itself to be sincere. This includes any verbal displays of hatred towards men as frustration may overtake one and lead them to speak what they may not believe.

So what's actually occurring here?
The purpose to which the words are put in the long term are uncertain and always a distant. In the short term, directly, they take to defending a very specific behavior that often falls under what is called "simping".

The dedication by a man of his positive attentions, affections and or funds to a woman that is someone he is not directly involved with and has no relationship or reciprocated romantic connection too.

It is generally assumed the woman has no real interest in him and may be using him. But without the assumption, this is naturally of course very similar to the actual ways relationships may begin.

Depression in marriages happens to both men & women. While they r many abusive men, women perpetrators r common. Women r controlling, dictate & wear pants in marriages. Some even using love portions to take away husband's freewill r common. Women think it's normal to dominate men

Women groups r full of women who confess on doing strange things to control husbands. If you go to Sekuru Banda's shrine u see many young women looking for ways to attract & keep men under their control. Most often wn these things expire all hell breaks loose. Women play victims

Pastors have destroy families-encourage women to lead husbands &some even forcing them to attend church. Men's God given role is to lead &wife must submit unconditionally.That means husband becomes 1st ministry &even if he is unsaved Bible says to put yourself under his authority

This means as a wife u must choose wisely & don't rush to settle with an unbeliever as God expects u to submit to him "as you do to the Lord". A controlled man is difficult to manage, they rebel &may do bad things just to prove to you that your control has limits.Respect freewill

Love, respect & forgiveness are important.Marriages are under strong spiritual warfare but most of attack happens through character, emotions, personality & lack of self restraint. That's why it's important to pray, reflect &manage these to be able to minimize spiritual attacks.

So first My body was raging with pain. My soul was crushed. My humanity was protesting

Smell of blood was absolutely engulfing and horrific . I was violently shaking. I i didn't have any control over my body. Every move my body made. It was extra sharp pain which was everywhere. I just wanted my body to stop just for a minute so that I can catch my breath.

Then the cutter is screaming that if I don't stop shaking .my stitched will come out and she will have to stitch me up. But I can't control how my body is reacting,I can't. I cant scream either
My voice is gone from screaming. I am swimming in the river of pain.

I am confused. I can't look at my mother or my unty. I am in so much pain that I pray to die. Cant take it. The Hut is my butchery Hut. The sun hits and the smell of blood is horrific. I can't stop smelling it. I am only 6yrs. Just tender age of

The boy loved the soccer toy with my daughter. He pointed at it. He made move.

My daughter fluttered her hands back hiding the toy with a No.

You know kids! He persisted.
The mom shunned him. He cried.

I kept watching.

My daughter went to meet the boy; Handed him the soccer toy.
Almost immediately, the boy stopped crying.

The mom tried to give it back; I said it's okay. Let him have It.

The boy's Dad held my daughter in his hand. Took her back where toys are displayed. Urged her to pick anyone of her choice. She pointed at a three-legged bicycle.

I refused it. He insisted. That's okay, he said

I was numbed.
He also paid for the soccer toy.

I was thankful.

My daughter loves the bicycle.

Why did I share this?

It’s popular to read advice from highly successful people.

Their advice may be good for THEIR situation, but does it generalize to other circumstances?

Here’s my attempt to distill repeated advice from MANY highly successful people across many distinct circumstances:

Achieving goals breeds new ones.

A terrible situation creates misery, but a good situation doesn’t imply happiness.

Happiness takes inner work, gratitude for what’s had.

The good life’s a journey, not a destination.

2. High levels of accomplishment almost always require hard work over a long period.

“Overnight successes” are rare, and are often misidentified. If you look closely, usually the person was practicing for 5-20 years before they were an “overnight success.”

Always be improving.

3. Life is unpredictable.

When young, people usually don’t know what they’re going to “do with their life.” That’s fine!

Life takes crazy, unexpected twists & turns.

Plans are great but expect to modify them.

Be adaptable and on the lookout for great, unexpected opportunities

4. Don’t let fear stop you.

Attempting hard things will bring stress, fear, and anxiety. If you avoid what you fear (more than is warranted by the level of danger) your potential will be curtailed.

Learn to push through your fears to do stressful things that are valuable.
