Amalaki Ekadashi

The Ekadashi of the Phalguna month, Shukla Paksha (The waxing phase of the moon) is called Amalaki Ekadashi. In Odisha, it is known as Sarbasammat Ekadasi is celebrated in Jagannath Temple & Lord Vishnu Temple. next day of Amalaki Ekadashi is Govinda Dwadashi.

Significance –

Once happened to be there a king whose names goes “Mandhata” – he once said to Vasishta muni, let me know a holy fast that will benefit me eternally. Muni then replied to him do listen to me and goes on saying that Amalaki Ekadasi is the best.
Who ever observes a fast on this ekadesi day obtains enormous wealth, gets free from effects of Sin & attains liberation.
The Kingdom of Vaidisha –

There was a kingdom named Vaidisha, wherein all the brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas, and shudras were equally gifted with Vedic knowledge, great bodily strength, and intelligence. And the king who happened to rule was Pashabinduka a member of dynasty
soma (The Moon). He was religious & truthful. He was better known as Chitraratha – he had a strength of 10000 elephants & was wealthy & also knew vedics thoroughly.
During his reign – no one died of any disease, no drought or flood, everyone performed their duty perfectly. twice a month everyone fasted on Ekadasi. In this way, king, the citizens of Vaidisha lived in great happiness and prosperity. Giving up all varieties of materialistic
religion, they dedicated themselves to the service of Lord, Hari.
One day, while hunting in the jungle, King Vasuratha wander away from the footpath and lost his way. Itinerant for some time and eventually growing weary, he paused beneath a tree and, fell asleep. As he slept, some tribesmen came upon him and, remembering their long-standing
hatred toward the king, began discussing among themselves various ways to kill him & tried their best to kill him with their weapons and the result was a failed one.
One fine moment out of the Kings body and she looked like death personified and out in a minute with her chakra killed all the tribes who had been trying to kill the sleeping king.
King upon waking up saw the dead tribes and was shocked and was wondering and suddenly he heard a voice well it was the supreme lord in disguise of a women saved you, and upon hearing this he was over-whelmed and returned to the capital and ruled without any hiccups for years.
Therefore, anyone who takes the vrath on these days will undoubtedly attain the abode of lord.
