If "minted" by a consortium of EV charging operators, drivers would only have to register with ONE of them to get "Watts" but be able to use them to pay on ALL charging poles

Paul Jepson of ecosulis the first speaker of the day, stating that #rewilding presents a new narrative in conservation fit for the 21st century. There are many actors shaping it, but in particlar its an opportunity for young people to shape and define their future environment

He says the science behind current laws in particular Natura2000 are based on science which is 50 years out of date. We need to redesign laws across Europe based on a new narrative and incorporating modern scientific thinking on rewilding

Next we move onto Frans Schepers - Rewilding European Landscapes. Who starts by highlighting the development and debates in rewilding science and the 'skyrocketing' numbers of publications. However he says most are based on opinion more than practice

Using the example of the Netherlands he points out that what is now called rewilding. Began as 'Nature Development' in the 1980's with projects such as OSV, Plan Stork and Living Rivers. They moved from defensive to offensive approach to nature conservation

1. There has been a lot of sorting in the electorate over the last few elections, driven by Brexit and the realignment of British politics away from old divisions of class towards a values divide on culture and age.

The Tories are more provincial, working class, regionally distributed. Labour are more metropolitan, middle class and urban.

4. It is also hard to overstate how different geography of the Conservative Party is to recent decades.

This is the 2019 party against the party after its 1997 defeat. The Conservatives now represent 57% of seats in the North and Midlands, their highest share since 1935.

Results of elections over the last five years signal to Progressives that we cannot simply continue thinking in traditional ways, proposing the usual, conventional solutions & hoping the pendulum could shift in their favour.

We need to wake the fuck

As a result of growing socio-economic inequality; the acceleration of economic, social & technological changes; changes in the voter base of social democratic parties; as well as numerous other global trends, many liberal democracies are led by populist politicians.

What to do?

In the EU, roughly a quarter of likely voters vote for populist politicians, whose actions centre on fighting against some outside enemy, the rejection of political pluralism & the irreconcilable conflict between the “people” & the elites - all very reminiscent of 1930s Germany.

Based on a “radical” understanding & interpretation of democracy, populists seek to implement a form of govt that demands uncontrolled authority on the basis of a popular mandate which is used to systemically weaken the institutional guarantees meant to safeguard minorities.

Populists portray human rights as instruments to thwart certain majority positions & as “antidemocratic”: organisations that invoke these rights are labelled “agents of foreign powers”. We are witnessing a widespread & far-reaching retrenchment in the area of progressive values.

The High Court gave us 'permission' to bring some of our judicial review arguments in relation to the Government's odd PPE contracts. We are today asking again for permission to bring the others. You can read our (remarkable) Skeleton and Statement here.

We chose these three contracts (Clandeboye/Ayanda/Pestfix) in June/July when we had much less understanding than we do now about what was going on. Once you appreciate that fact, what we have already uncovered (before disclosure) about those three is all the more remarkable.

What happens on the day after Section 230 is repealed? I'm going to prognosticate a bit in today's Section 230 thread. The tl;dr is that we'll likely see a lot less speech, especially if the speech even borders on being controversial.

Recall that Section 230's core immunity says that platforms shall not be treated as the publishers of third-party content. So unless an exception applies, a social media site, for instance, cannot be successfully sued for a user's post.

The user who posted it always could be sued, but not the platform. This provides platforms with great flexibility to set their own moderation standards.

Recently, many people have criticized platforms for preferring particular political viewpoints in these moderation standards, and for not being very transparent about how they develop and implement those standards.

We can set those arguments aside for another day (basically every day for the rest of my life). What I want to talk about right now is how moderation would change on the day after Section 230 is repealed.
