1️⃣ Define a Repeatable Edge

A basis of any successful trading system is having an edge over a series of trades.

Without a well studied edge, you cannot succeed in the market.

Example of edges:

Trend system
* Trading during the power trend
* Trading stocks that are in uptrends
* Trading GROUPS that are in uptrends

High Volume Edges
* Highest Volume Ever (HVE)
* Highest Volume in > 1 Year (HV1)
* Highest Volume Since IPO (HVIPO)

2️⃣ Define Entry Tactics from that Edge

Once you have an edge, you need an entry tactic.

Entry tactics are repeatable and definable. You should know your entry and exit points before ever placing a trade.

Examples of entry tactics:

Trend system
🟢 Enter on two closes above a KMA
🔴 Exit on two closes below a KMA

High Volume Edge
📊 High Volume Close
📊 High Volume Support

Edges & Entry tactics have to be repeated CONSISTENTLY to reduce randomness when trading a small account.

8 Chart Patterns by William O'Neil

Perhaps the most famous basing pattern found in the market is the Cup with Handle pattern.

✅ Chart resembles a cup with a handle
✅ Base length: Minimum 7 weeks
✅ Base depth: 20-30%
✅ Buy point: high of the handle
✅ Handle length: 1 week
✅ Handle depth: no more than 15%

There is also a Cup without Handle pattern.

✅ Chart is just a cup, no handle
✅ Base length: Minimum 7 weeks
✅ Base depth: 20-30%
✅ Buy point: High of left side of cup

The Double Bottom chart pattern is also very common & is one of the most powerful patterns to learn.

✅ Base resembles a "W"
✅ Base length: Min. 7 weeks
✅ Base depth: < 40%
✅ Buy point: middle of "W"
✅ Second low must undercut first low

The Flat Base pattern is another well known structure coined by William O'Neil.

✅ Base resembles a shallow consolidation
✅ Prior uptrend must be greater than 30%
✅ Base length: Minimum of 5 weeks
✅ Base depth: < 15%
✅ Buy point: High of structure

How To Execute when Trading (Thread)

Trading is a matter of preparation, discipline and execution.

Execution is about reacting to what we see on the charts in accordance with what you have already planned out when the market is closed.

The reason we plan our actions beforehand is because our emotions are at a lower state and we are more objective at that point in time.

Many traders often have the same watchlists going into the week but when the opening bell rings and setups emerge, the traders who can execute have the best performance.

Trading execution begins with research and preparation.

As traders, we primarily compete with ourselves to honor our rules and execute our edges.

With money on the line, trading is an incredibly strenuous mental game where emotions can flare up leading to costly mistakes

The Importance of Mastering Trading Psychology.

Trading Psychology or the Mental Game of Trading encompasses solving problems regarding emotions such as Greed, Fear, Anger, Confidence and Discipline.

Contrary to popular belief, having a strong mental game does not mean eradicating emotion.

Instead, it means learning to transcribe your emotions into data that you can use and analyze to connect past states to current ones.

Trading is a performance sport.

We execute at our highest ability when we can use emotions as fuel and for intuition but are not so dominating that they cloud our judgment.

Think about the best athletes in the world : Kobe, Jordan, Lebron, Messi, Ronaldo, Federer, Nadal...

They compete with passion, emotion. This drives them and they are able to unlock their full potential.

How position sizing can affect your trading performance-

Assuming that you are trading a Trend-following system with Big RR and low win-rate.

For example, assume that you risk one percent per trade on a 100,000 account
and you have 20 straight losses.

That one percent is of your remaining equity and at the end of 20 losses, you would be down to 81,790.60.

Now if you got a 30R winner and you are risking one percent of your balance of 81,790.60, your new equity would be 106,327.9,

You’ve had 20 losses and one winner though you are still up 10Rplus your equity is up by 6.3R percent.

Now, let’s say you risk five percent per trade on your balance. At the end of 20 straight losses, you would be down to 35,772.89 or down 64 percent.

If you risk five percent on this amount and get a 30R winner, you would be up to 89,621.48. You are up 10R, but because of your position sizing, your equity is still down over 10 percent.

After going through two phases of a traders journey, the initial success phase, and Only why do i get loss phase, Traders enter the third phase -

THE SEARCH FOR THE HOLY GRAIL PHASE.

This phase has no limits, It can end in 1 month and it may not end till lifetime.

What exactly is this phase?

When a trader covers all the basics, they know how to lower their losses, they know the power of risk management.

And few of them may even develop their edges and systems over time.

But after some time, they feel that they are doing something wrong and there is more to trading than what they know.

THEN COMES THE HOLY GRAIL PART-

Few of them start to Read more books about trading,finding articles about “How to win 100% of the time” and listening to Youtube videos of few big traders who make big in trading.
