1) Cup & handle pattern : As name suggest it looks like a cup & handle. The cup is formed as stock corrects & then starts picking up again.

Handle formation is good process as it then digests the run leading to more sustained move. The specifics of cup above (1/n)

Note - The usual depth of a good cup is max 35% but if the market is coming out of deeper correction. Then the depth of cup can be 50-55% too. But in a bull market a correction more than 35% can result in faulty pattern with lots of overhead supply ..Examples below (2/n)

TD Power System - Recent one ( Note the handle depth here is 19% . As compared to textbook handle this is more. I see upto 20% handles working) (3/n)

2) VCP - Typically volatility contraction is not a pattern but a characteristics of any pattern. You see deep handles >15/20% - you can say that its not a cup & handle ideally but a VCP which is also fine & will work. Reduced volatility is what traders want to move ahead (4/n)

Enter the stock as it comes up back to the 10/20 day EMA and ride it till it drops below or SL hits as explained below

Eg -Nitin Spinners as below

2) Weekly Super trend (Setting 2,7): Whenever trend changes , volatility increases & supertrend measures volatility..That's the logic behind it

Eg - Deepak Nitrite

3) 10 Week MA : Trend following can be done using 10 w MA

Eg - Saregama

Fundamental analysis has to be done for best results as these are to be applied on a growing co + sector movt together ..Eg If you will apply to random co with low RS or low growth..This might be very choppy

The other way to look at this is that..The stock went below 21 month EA in 2008 & 2020 crash

Something is happening really too bad and worst is yet to come for entire market !!

HDFC bank Monthly Chart :

In last 20 years - Only 2 times the stock has gone below 21 month EMA as market. This seems the third time (Monthly close will confirm )

Setup 1:

RSI- commonly used to show whether price is overbought or oversold.

General rule:

One becomes cautious once price becomes overbought and optimistic when price becomes oversold.

Let's understand this with an example of Laurus Labs:

1. It was in overbought zone and after a few days when a small dip was seen from 693 to 588 (15% downside)

2. It was in oversold zone and after a few days when a small rally was seen from 59 to 107 (82% upside)

Well, this looks very easy, but it is not.

When a price is in overbought zone and is in momentum, then it can move up without taking a dip and exiting or shorting stock would prove wrong.

When IRCTC was in overbought zone, price went up from 2718 to 6396 (135% rally).

1) For riding trends, first you have to understand trends - Here is how a complete cycle of stock looks like..Stock has 4 stages...We need to be in 2nd one to make money.
Now here we go deeper into stage 2 (2/n)

2) Any stage 2 has phases as this is not a linear journey but the stock will set up multiple bases in between...Below is the example of Balaji amines that highlights how the stage 2 in reality looks now.....

3) So a Stage 2 has periods of bases in between which are the typical resting period for digesting earlier gains. Theoretically looks like this..Stage 2 then a base within stage 2 and stage 2 resumes....

4) The real question is how to ride trend between the bases peacefully so that we don't have to wait in consolidation.
