As England goes into 3rd lockdown, escaping domestic abuse was listed as a reason to break lockdown. In just about every country across the world, there has been a spike in domestic abuse during lockdown. what fucking world is this where such violence is a given?

After I explained to a club manager what had happened, he ooked at my Beloved and asked me “Why didn’t you let your husband take care of it?” I almost beat him up too.

“First of all, he’s not my husband. Also, this is my body, I take care of it.”

Patriarchy enables and protects men who sexually assault women, and it demands that only other men “protect” us.

I know that we can’t always fight back. My priority is to survive. I never want what I have shared here to make anyone feel guilty for not beating up her assaulter.

I also know that we are not socialized to fight back. We are not taught to fight back. #IBeatMyAssaulter

Men are not socialized to expect us to fight back. I think of that when I hear of the spike in intimate partner terrorism during the pandemic. I wonder why those men never fear that those women could poison their food or simply kill them in their sleep for being abusive fucks.

It is a fuck-this-shit moment for Egyptian women. And the rage and reckoning are the fuel of revolution. Not a cis-gender heterosexual dick-swinging revolution. We already had one of those almost 10 years ago.
A feminist revolution.

The revolutions that began 10 years ago in the Middle East and North Africa might have been started by a man. They will be completed by women and queer people too often marginalized and ignored and subjected to violence by the State, Street and Home.
