 1/ Short Strangles

As the name suggests, you need to sell options in this strategy

It involves 2 legs:

Short OTM CE

Short OTM PE
2/ Stance

You expect the market to trade within a narrow range. A narrow range means low volatility and hence lowering option premium due to theta decay
3/ Net Credit Strategy

Shorting options means that you will receive premium

Ex Nifty spot 16200

To create Short Strangle

Short 16300CE @92

Short 16100PE @132

Total premium received = 92 + 132 = 224
@132 4/ Maximum Profit

The max profit is the premium received at entering the strategy, possible when the market expires within or at the selected strikes

In the Ex, expiry at or between 16100 or 16300, means options go worthless due to theta decay and you receive 224 points per lot
@132 5/ Maximum Loss

The risk is open ended.If the market expires outside the selected strikes,there will be a loss

The extent of the loss depends upon the magnitude of the rally away from your strikes

In that case, volatility and option premium would increase which means more loss
@132 6/ Advantages over Short Straddles

Short Strangles: are

More sensitivity towards theta decay due to OTM options

Have wider breakeven points, good for option selling

Narrow price move and less volatility means more decay, compared to straddles, for same time-wise correction
@132 7/ Limitations over Short Straddles

While creating a Short Strangle you receive a lesser premium compared to Short Straddles.

This is due to OTM options used in strangles, which have a lesser premium compared to ATM option used in short straddles

Involves selling OTM CE and OTM PE

Max Profit – Limited to the premium received (on expiry within strikes)

Risk – Unlimited (on expiry outside breakevens)

THREAD: SAVE YOUR TAX ON TRADING INCOME

Investors and traders want to make big money in the stock market. But what about paying taxes. All of them would like to save some chips.

In this thread, you will learn a few smart ways to save on your taxes


1. Set-Off Your Losses

Losses from speculative trading can be set off against speculative gains made during a year.

You can carry forward these losses for 4 years.

These losses can’t be set off against non-speculative trading income.

Losses from Short Term Non-Speculative trading can be set off against STCG as well as LTCG for the same year.

However, losses from Long Term trading can be set off against LTCG only.

An investor can carry forward such losses for a period of 8 years.


2. Plough Back Your Profits

Exemption on LTCG of up to 1 lac. So, you can plough back these gains to increase your capital.

Example ~

Investment = 5 lacs
Time period = 1 year
Profit = 1 lac

Book this profit after one year and re-invest after a few days.

No tax liability for this 1 lac but this time your new capital invested will be 6 lacs.

Again sharing bank nifty intraday weekly straddle. How to play by selling straddle.
Mostly will work on Monday to Wednesday. Sometimes on Friday.
Why to pay your money to learn this if u can get it here.
U need only practice.
Let’s go.

Say bank nifty future is at 32000.
Sell both 32000 call and put.
Considering current volatile market lest say premium on Monday morning is 350 on both sides.
Sold with 700 points combine premium.
If bank nifty will trade in narrow range say +\- 100 hold it.
If moving 200 points

then exit previous sold straddle. Sell new one. Let’s say BN moved +200
Now sell 32200. If bank nifty will move here within range then u will get profit through theta decay. Follow same procedure for next 150-200 pts move.

This is only for single straddle sell position.

Now in second case sell three straddle. 31900/32000/32100
In case of 100 points move no need to change.
If 200 + then future is 32200.
Exit 31900 and sell 31200 straddle.
If moving another 100 then exit 32000 and sell 32300. Continue same with 100 points move.
If no move then

it will consolidate between 32000-32200 or 32100 to 32300 and u will get theta decay.

This is for normal move. Sudden big move may come anytime. So keep SL in system.
If u r selling at 350-350 then keep SL in system 475 for both legs.
Practice it. No need to attend webinar.

How to avoid blowing up your account trading OPTIONS
(A thread)

1. Becoming consistently profitable trading OPTIONS takes practice and discipline.

2. Trading Options is similar to trading stock, YOU are in control of your profits per movement (up or down) in the underlying.

3. Buying a CALL- You pay a Premium price based on the STRIKE price you choose. With a call you get paid when the stock moves up

4. Buying a PUT- You pay a premium price based on the STRIKE price you chose. With PUTS you get paid when the underlying stock price goes down

5. Premium price goes up when the trade moves in your favor (call betting upside, put betting downside movement)
6. The goal is to buy a premium and resell it for a higher premium when the trade works
7. Like basic stock trading, you want to scale in and out of your position

9. People see cheap premium and tend to pick those, not knowing in reality they are risking more!
10. Don’t let the premium price dictate which strike you chose.. the higher the premium, the less risk/ volatility that trade will see!

11. When day trading options, you are essentially trading DELTA
12. Delta is what your premium will pay per dollar movement in underlying.
Ex. Delta .5 pays 50c per dollar movement in underlying
So if original cost =50$ premium,
1$ move up in underlying pays .50 or 100% trade

1/ Recently, I learned about the concept of ‘struggle porn’. This refers to the fetish of sacrificing nearly everything (health, relationships, time) for your startup. I fear that this label is creating more harm than good.

2/ @nateliason wrote a fabulous article about this topic, which first introduced me to this concept. Everyone should read it:

3/ @alexisohanian also recently spoke about struggle porn, though referring to it as ‘hustle porn.’ (as the co-founder of @hustlefundvc, obviously I take issue with this pejorative definition of ‘hustle’, but that’s another topic)

4/ Struggling in itself isn’t necessarily bad. Let’s be real here--if you’re going to start a startup, you will struggle. Founders should expect to work harder generally than employees. You will be challenged in many ways and also be super rewarded in others. This is normal.

5/ However, if you are over-indexing on hard work without clear purpose and degrading your mental health/relationships in the process--then this is very bad and we obviously should not celebrate this behavior.

1. Scan stocks on the basis of FTDB Scanner.

2. Buy stocks with EMA-9> EMA-21> EMA-63 > EMA 200 & Volume 200% up

3. maximum SL of 1.25X ( ATR )

4. I do breakout trading only in Nifty -500 stocks

Observing the public conversation around FB, and the private ones happening among techies and ex-FBers, I think the mutual misunderstanding is worse than when I set out two years (and 500 pages) ago to (in a small way) bridge that gulf.

We're basically fucked.

The tech world has gotten so huge, self-reinforcing, and insulated from reality they can no longer even vaguely look at themselves (and their actions) as others do. They just live on a different planet than most people.

Conversely, the average tech consumer doesn't understand the technology that has slowly taken over their lives, and their designated emissaries to figure it out--politicians, pundits, regulators, journalists--understand it barely better than they do, and have their own agendas.

To say more than generalities for a moment, here's what I think is likely the core problem.

Techies take weird, improbable visions, and make them realities: some BS pitch deck to a VC, mixed with money and people, really does turn into some novel thing.

Most people work inside a legacy industry that's evolved that way over time (usually for good reasons), and they think about the future via some analogy with their present (which is a function of a long-ago past). The interruption that tech will introduce is often hard to grasp.
