1/n I was asked my thoughts on the video below (sound on! Watch in full), not sure why. But here are some of my thoughts, in a thread. It's about Los Angeles, where Eric Garcetti is mayor, in CA, where Gavin Newsom (D) is governor.

 2/n This is not a simple matter, & I will be very rude to anyone trying to be simplistic about it all. My very first reaction is, of course she's right to protest. I myself would under those circumstances. Confronted with both loss of livelihood AND with gross inconsistency.
3/n The abhorrent way the USA as a whole (many US states in particular) simply left a great deal of its own citizens in the lurch, that's well-known. As too that this will mean a further widening of the abyss between the well-off & the poor, cue @Chris_arnade. But that's not all.
4/ The woman was quite right to point out the inconsistency of having a filming-crew set up a cafeteria next to her food business, while she suffers from loss of livelihood from the newest lockdown. I completely agree with her.
But that's not all.
5/ This is what #COVID19 is doing right at the moment in #California. You know what this means. Swamped ICU's, deaths. Right now, this is happening in much of the USA. That means no docs & no nurses flying in to help, they're needed at home.
6/ This is what #COVID19 is doing right NOW in Los Angeles Metro Area. You know what this means. Wait 22 days, the deaths will go high, high. The epidemic will spread and kill more. And docs & nurses can't fly in like they did for NYC, because so much of the USA is like this.
7/ I noticed most other people stopped tweeting about #COVID19 from July till late October, because initial measures worked to bring down the case numbers. Only a few, including me, kept shouting, "DEAL with the virus". Here, Don Winslow is fully right:

8/ Then you have the usual suspects doing their best to cash in on others' anguish. This woman, who not only is a grown-ass adult, but also a medical doctor, will be one cause (among others) of actual deaths, unnecessary deaths.

9/ But fiiiiine, cue the other usual suspects to self-righteously say, "My protest is fine! It will save lives! But your protest is very bad!"

All along in this, including in May onwards, I've been very consistent that the need for public compliance trumps everything else.
10/ It doesn't matter how self-righteous and *allegedly* safe your own protest is, all it does is encourage others to protest their own causes. Don't bore me with your condemnation of NYC synagogues if you were fine with *packed* crowds shouting or chanting their spittle around.
11/ But in the USA, you have a grown-ass man who is a Florida House member. And he makes your average sociopath Joker look a nice adult. @AnthonySabatini might as well go on camera and laugh over the morgue trucks, it amounts to the same thing.

12/ Cue the *other* usual suspects to say, "oh it's only 1% chance". I was brought up to think that 1 out of every 100 pregnant women dying of an avoidable virus was a bad thing, sue me if you don't like that I despise sociopaths.

15/ I'm shocked at how callous Americans are towards their own. Yes, Governor Newsom is a hypocrite, & should've immediately resigned after disclosure of his breaking his own quarantine regs. Doesn't mean you should applaud the deaths of many Californians.

16/ You cannot let people simply starve, in effect, since that will break quarantines. You must provide for your people. You MUST be consistent about it. But meanwhile, #COVID19 is out there & killing people, & making others quite ill for 4 months.

17/ In the USA, you must have your federal Congress, & your state legislatures, actually provide for people during the quarantines & pandemic. Failure to do so has meant failure of epidemic suppression. Failure to suppress the epidemic means say goodbye to your ICU's a while
18/ These were *some*, not all, of my thoughts, diplomatically put (my real thoughts are far ruder). There're medical, economic AND psychological aspects to suppressing the virus, & the USA, Dems, GOP, libertarians, & many public health figures, have really buggered that all up.

That's weird. Income inequality in China is legendary.

Let's check this number.

2/The New York Times cites the World Bank's recent report, "Fair Progress? Economic Mobility across Generations Around the World".

3/The World Bank report has a graph in which it appears to show the same value for China's Gini - under 0.3.

The graph cites the World Development Indicators as its source for the income inequality data.

It looks as if the latest estimate for China's Gini is 42.2.

That estimate is from 2012.

5/A Gini of 42.2 would put China in the same neighborhood as the U.S., whose Gini was estimated at 41 in 2013.

I can't find the <30 number anywhere. The only other estimate in the tables for China is from 2008, when it was estimated at 42.8.

शमशान में जब महर्षि दधीचि के मांसपिंड का दाह संस्कार हो रहा था तो उनकी पत्नी अपने पति का वियोग सहन नहीं कर पायी और पास में ही स्थित विशाल पीपल वृक्ष के कोटर में अपने तीन वर्ष के बालक को रख के स्वयं चिता पे बैठ कर सती हो गयी ।इस प्रकार ऋषी दधीचि और उनकी पत्नी की मुक्ति हो गयी।


परन्तु पीपल के कोटर में रखा बालक भूख प्यास से तड़पने लगा। जब कुछ नहीं मिला तो वो कोटर में पड़े पीपल के गोदों (फल) को खाकर बड़ा होने लगा। कालान्तर में पीपल के फलों और पत्तों को खाकर बालक का जीवन किसी प्रकार सुरक्षित रहा।

एक दिन देवर्षि नारद वहां से गुजर रहे थे ।नारद ने पीपल के कोटर में बालक को देख कर उसका परिचय मांगा -
नारद बोले - बालक तुम कौन हो?
बालक - यही तो मैं भी जानना चहता हूँ ।
नारद - तुम्हारे जनक कौन हैं?
बालक - यही तो मैं भी जानना चाहता हूँ ।

तब नारद ने आँखें बन्द कर ध्यान लगाया ।


तत्पश्चात आश्चर्यचकित हो कर बालक को बताया कि 'हे बालक! तुम महान दानी महर्षि दधीचि के पुत्र हो । तुम्हारे पिता की अस्थियों का वज्रास्त्र बनाकर ही देवताओं ने असुरों पर विजय पायी थी।तुम्हारे पिता की मृत्यु मात्र 31 वर्ष की वय में ही हो गयी थी'।

बालक - मेरे पिता की अकाल मृत्यु का क्या कारण था?
नारद - तुम्हारे पिता पर शनिदेव की महादशा थी।
बालक - मेरे उपर आयी विपत्ति का कारण क्या था?
नारद - शनिदेव की महादशा।
इतना बताकर देवर्षि नारद ने पीपल के पत्तों और गोदों को खाकर बड़े हुए उस बालक का नाम पिप्पलाद रखा और उसे दीक्षित किया।

The chorus of this song uses the shlokas taken from Sundarkand of Ramayana.

It is a series of Sanskrit shlokas recited by Jambavant to Hanuman to remind Him of his true potential.

1. धीवर प्रसार शौर्य भरा: The brave persevering one, your bravery is taking you forward.


2. उतसारा स्थिरा घम्भीरा: The one who is leaping higher and higher, who is firm and stable and seriously determined.

3. ुग्रामा असामा शौर्या भावा: He is strong, and without an equal in the ability/mentality to fight

4. रौद्रमा नवा भीतिर्मा: His anger will cause new fears in his foes.

5.विजिटरीपुरु धीरधारा, कलोथरा शिखरा कठोरा: This is a complex expression seen only in Indic language poetry. The poet is stating that Shivudu is experiencing the intensity of climbing a tough peak, and likening

it to the feeling in a hard battle, when you see your enemy defeated, and blood flowing like a rivulet. This is classical Veera rasa.

6.कुलकु थारथिलीथा गम्भीरा, जाया विराट वीरा: His rough body itself is like a sharp weapon (because he is determined to win). Hail this complete

hero of the world.

7.विलयगागनथाला भिकारा, गरज्जद्धरा गारा: The hero is destructive in the air/sky as well (because he can leap at an enemy from a great height). He can defeat the enemy (simply) with his fearsome roar of war.

“Ramanujacharya” who simply translated the following verse from Mahabharat and gave the world its real face

In Mahabharat,it is described how 'Maharishi Ved Vyasa' gave away his divine vision to Sanjay


Dhritarashtra's charioteer so that he could describe him the events of the upcoming war.

But, even before questions of war could begin, Dhritarashtra asked him to describe how the world looks like from space.

This is how he described the face of the world:

सुदर्शनं प्रवक्ष्यामि द्वीपं तु कुरुनन्दन। परिमण्डलो महाराज द्वीपोऽसौ चक्रसंस्थितः॥
यथा हि पुरुषः पश्येदादर्शे मुखमात्मनः। एवं सुदर्शनद्वीपो दृश्यते चन्द्रमण्डले॥ द्विरंशे पिप्पलस्तत्र द्विरंशे च शशो महान्।

—वेद व्यास, भीष्म पर्व, महाभारत


Meaning:-

हे कुरुनन्दन ! सुदर्शन नामक यह द्वीप चक्र की भाँति गोलाकार स्थित है, जैसे पुरुष दर्पण में अपना मुख देखता है, उसी प्रकार यह द्वीप चन्द्रमण्डल में दिखायी देता है। इसके दो अंशो मे पीपल और दो अंशो मे विशाल शश (खरगोश) दिखायी देता है।


Meaning: "Just like a man sees his face in the mirror, so does the Earth appears in the Universe. In the first part you see leaves of the Peepal Tree, and in the next part you see a Rabbit."

Based on this shloka, Saint Ramanujacharya sketched out the map, but the world laughed
