Chamundeshwari Temple at Mysuru is one among Shakti Peethas of Devi.

Chamundeshwari Temple is located on the Chamundi Hills. Chamundeshwari Devi is known as Krouncha Peetha as city was called Krouncha Puri earlier. It is said that hair of Sati Devi fell here. Place was called as Mahishooru, which later came to know as Mysuru.
Story says that Mahishasura had been granted a wish by Brahma deva that he could not be killed by a man or an animal thus he began to disturb everyone. Parvati Devi fought with Mahishasura taking the form of Chamundeshwari, thus called Mahishasura Mardhini, the battle lasted for
10days. This victory of good over evil is celebrated in grand manner during Navratri. Chamundeshwari is Kuladevi of Mysore maharaja. Big black granite Nandi is very famous here.
