Story of bhagwan greatest devotee Kannappa Nayanar (thinnan) many of us even knows about him that how he used to worship mahadev & how mahadev appeared & blessed him for being greatest bhakta of mahadev ,here is thread of this divine story (1/18)

Nagan was a tribal chief in the jungle area of Potthapi. He and his wife Thaththai didn’t have children for a very long time and were praying to bhagwan Karttikeya .They were blessed with a son whom they named Thinnan. (2/18)
Thinnan grew up to be a reputed archer in his tribe; he often led his people on hunting expeditions. On one such hunt, Thinnan was separated from his friends chasing a wild boar and found himself in an unknown part of the jungle. Trying to find his way out.. (3/18)
he came across a shrine dedicated to bhagwan Shiva. He had never seen anything like this before and had the uncontrollable urge to stay back with the bhagwan. He was unaware about the puja vidhi of mahadev (4/18)
told his friend to cook the boar which he hunted and then he offered it to the mahadev. He also requested his them to inform his parents about his intention to stay in the forest .This shrine called Thirukalahasti, was a very ancient one cared for by a brahman pujari (5/18)
The poor brahman was an ardent devotee of Shiva, but could not make the long journey every day, so he came to the shrine once a fortnight, bringing the stuff of puja with him. He cleaned and prayed to the Deity and made his offerings before returning home.(6/18)
The Brahmin returned to the shrine the day after Thimman had made his offerings, and was shocked to see the meat lying next to the bhagwan He assumed that some animals must have left the meat there, and cleaned it well with fresh water from a nearby stream.. (7/18)
before continuing with his routine. The Brahmin left that day, satisfied that he had done his duty. The next day, Thinnan returned, bringing more meat. He did not know any prayers or rituals, (8/18)
so he spent some time talking to the Lord and pouring out his heart. This gave him so much pleasure & peace that he started coming every day, bringing with him the catch of the https://t.co/ME6fEeXy1C day as he walked towards the shrine he saw some beautiful flowers. (9/18)
He plucked some for his bhagwan and saved them in his hair, as he was carrying the day’s catch in both arms. Then he noticed a small stream flowing nearby and had an idea,How nice it would be to give a bath to the bhagwan .(10/18)
He then bent and filled water into his mouth and went to the shrine where he spit the water from his mouth on the Linga, thus bathing the mahadev. He happily made his offerings and spoke to the mahadev before leaving for the day.(11/18)
Next day pujari came to the shrine and he saw meat & spittle everyday he understood that this works are not done by animal but a human he again cleaned the shrine and purified the lingam and he returned to the home but meat offering was daily routine so
pujari in tears..(12/18)
Asked to mahadev to solve this mystery so mahadev came in his dream and told him that one of His devotee is responsible for all this and there was no need to get alarmed. The pujari could hide behind the trees and keep a watch, to find out for himself.(13/18)
The next day thimman came & did all rituals in his usual way and started praying to mahadev suddenly blood started coming from mahadev eyes thinnan tried all way to stop the blood when it didn't stop so (14/18)
Thinnan cut his own left eye with the help of his arrow and placed it in the depression of the Lord’s eye.The bleeding stopped,he was happy that bhagwan eyes are healed now but he saw that even bhagwan right eyes are bleeding now thinnan knows the way to stop bleeding..(15/18)
But the problem was once he removed his right eye how would he see where to place it? So he got an idea ,Lifting one of his feet he placed it on the place where the mahadev had his right eye.started the procedure of offerings...(16/18)
Even mahadev could not bear to see this great sacrifice by his devotee.and appeared in front of him!at once, Thimman regained his sight, and prostrated before the mahadev. The pujari too came there and bowed before the mahadev ,mahadev blessed them both and praised them..(17/18)
He especially lauded Thinnan, and declared him to be a saint – a Nayanar, as the greatest of Shiva’s devotees were known. Since he had given up his eyes kann means eye in Tamil for the mahadev, he would henceforth be known as Kannappa Nayanar. (18/18)

To do a Namaskaar or bow before someone means that you are humble or without pride and ego. This means that we politely bow before you since you are better than me. Pranipaat(प्राणीपात) also means the same that we respect you without any vanity.

Surrendering False pride is Namaskaar. Even in devotion or bhakti we say the same thing. We want to convey to Ishwar that we have nothing to offer but we leave all our pride and offer you ourselves without any pride in our body. You destroy all our evil karma.

2/9

We bow before you so that you assimilate us and make us that capable. Destruction of our evils and surrender is Namaskaar. Therefore we pray same thing before and after any big rituals.
