1/ Since "liquidity" has been the buzzword these days, here's an anecdote and a powerful lesson from history about printing unlimited amounts of money. Story time. #fintwit

2/ Our story begins with Mansa Musa or Musa I of Mali, an African king who consistently figures in the list of richest people in the world (Inflation-adjusted). One of his given names was 'Lord of the (Gold) Mines of Wangara'. Lest we forget, Gold was the 'Money' in those days.

3/ One fine day in 1324, Musa decided to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. Of course, it was easier said than done. Mecca was ~8,500 Kms away from Timbuktu, Mali. Ultimately he did make that journey and it has been recorded in the script "The Chronicles of the Seeker" by Mahmud Kati.

4/ Famously, he took a ton of 'money' (Gold) with him to aid in his journey (Well in his defense, it was ~8,500 Kms). About 60,000 laborers and soldiers carried 2 Kgs each and their camels carried 13 Kgs each, bringing the tally to an estimated ~1,30,000 Kgs of Gold.

5/ Being a generous King, he donated Gold left and right to every poor person he saw on the way. Regions of Cairo, Medina and Mecca became instantly 'rich'. The estimated donation is ~32,000 Kgs of Gold or ~$2 Billion in today's estimate.

If we want to connect our ideas, we need to implement networked thinking.

Before we go there, let's talk about other ways of thinking

📏Linear thinking
It's the process of following a step by step progression where a response is received before another step is taken

Examples of linear thinking;
If A, then B, then C

Linear thinking is thinking of processes in a straight linear fashion.

It's fast and effective when you know all the data and processes, but it leads to linear bias and first-order thinking

🥈 Second-order thinking
It's the process of following and expanding on the implications of first-order impacts.

For example; A may result in B and C

It's better than first-order thinking by exploring more options, but it rarely leads to novel connections between ideas

A major consequence of second-order thinking is The Cobra Effect, where the methods used to solve a problem ends up rewarding others to make the problem worse.

MYTH OF FIBROMYALGIA?
Idea that Fibromyalgia is a myth persists. In 2009, I published (“Practical Pain Management”) announcement of cause. I sent Dr. Tennant, editor, a manuscripts entitled “Fibromyalgia-Finally The Cause”.

Dr. Tennant chose to change title to, “Sacroiliac Joint Disorder”; I was a country doctor without academic credentials. The article continues on-line. Gratefully, Dr. Tennant did not change the article content. He sent me a note, something like, “you will help many”.

I suspect the world medical community continues of one mind that the cause of Fibromyalgia is unknown, & that many doctors continue to question authenticity of such a disorder. Naysayers are simply ignorant.

At the 10th Interdisciplinary World Congress on Low Back & Pelvic Pain, Antwerp October 2019 (on line), I presented eight papers on my study of 50 people with Fibromyalgia. The lead paper announced the multifactorial causes of Fibromyalgia.

A sine qua non of Fibromyalgia is both lower & upper back pain. Non-refreshing sleep, daytime fatigue, depression, & cognitive disarray are common and all are symptoms resulting from non-restorative sleep; aroused by pain while trying to sleep.

The global blockchain market is growing fast & it is expected to grow from USD 3.0B in 2020 to USD 39.7B by 2025 at an impressive CAGR of 67.3% during 2020–2025. The global fintech market has also significantly grown over the past 2 years & so is the case in Southeast Asia. (1/n)

With a total pop. of 570M, a young demographic & high Internet usage, Southeast Asia (SEA) is promising for companies & investors in blockchain & crypto.

Today, the application of decentralized finance (DeFi) is under the limelight.

Java was first released in mid-1995, just 6 months before JS.

By 98, when I went to college, Java was already used for all the first level courses in the CS program.

How did it catch on so quickly (just 3 years) to shift university curriculum, which is usually so slow/behind?

I wonder why Java was so respected and JS was not? Why/how was Java already seen as such a stable and mature language?

Not just Java, other languages (like python) were also released around/near 95, and also seemed to get to "mature" respect status. much quicker.

I bring all this up because my impression of Java in 98 was that it had been around "forever" (as had C++ first developed in 79, but not standardized until 98!), but that's not. true at all. These were all new languages around the same time.

I'm sure the language designs had different merits, and the target applications meant a different perception and reception, but...

it sure seems like the industry (and academics) just decided Java and C++ were the stable mature ones and langs like JS were toys.

BTW, before you assume JS was nascent/immature b/c the web wasn't much of a thing yet, remember that JS was actually released as LiveScript on the server before it was released in a browser. So "server-side JS" was always part of the story, not just Node 15 years later in 2009.

BASIS OF VEDAS COMPILATION.

The deeds or kriyas mentioned in the Vedas is indestructible, but the tradition of Yagya's should not be discontinued. Vedas are the writings of the observations made by the ancient sages.

As this oral tradition developed things started to get disorganized. As per Brahmand Puraan,in Dwapar yug Maharishi Vyas organized them and distributed them amongst his disciples for further clarification. The divisions were compiled from a single Yajurved & divided into 4 parts.

The work of compilation was distributed amongst Jaimini, Sumantu Vaishampayan and Paeel rishis.They came to be known as Rigved, Yajurved, Samved and Atharvaved. The fifth disciple was given the task of of explaining and interpreting the Puraan and their history.

His name was Lomharshan, Whom we commonly know as Sutji.

1. In Rig Ved we mostly find the mantras pertaining to Yagya which can be sung for the worldly good and benefit. Also the importance of Priest emerged from here.

2. In Atharvaved, we find mantras pertaining to Brahmatatva or the spiritual and essential Truth. Here the karmakaand for the Kings was described in detail.

1. Sell put at a support according to charts.

2. Sell put at a strike far away from the spot where you think the probability of the stock falling will be very very low.

3. Sell put at a price where you're willing to buy the stock at.

Step 3: What to do when in profit/loss?

1. If in profit you can just roll up the puts thereby increasing the ROI or shift to other stocks to make more profit.

2. If in loss take delivery of the shares equivalent to the lot size in cash market.

Step 4: What to do after taking the delivery?

1. Sell calls to lower your cost price of the stock. For eg, you took delivery of Reliance at 1900, sell 2100 CE which is about 10% away.

2. Keep doing this till your CE expires ITM and then give delivery of your stock away

This is a typical CD pipeline in AWS.

This is far more complex than the most complex CD pipeline I have ever had! Just cos it's complex, doesn't mean it's over-engineered though. Given the blast radius, I'm glad they do releases carefully and safely.

If you look closely, beyond all the alpha, beta, gamma environments, it's one-box in a region first then the rest of the region, I assume starting with the least risky regions first.

For anyone thinking about going multi-region (after the recent Kinesis outage), this is one of the complexities you need to consider. To do multi-region right and deploy safely (minimize blast radius), this is one of the complexities you have to factor in.

This "deploy small at first then more broadly" principle applies to #serverless apps too, though you can't "deploy to one box". You can do it with canary deployments instead, CodeDeploy supports this practice for Lambda (using weighted aliases) out-of-the-box.
