1/ To try to understand Modi's overall approach as I see it, I'll rely on a financial term.

Modi is, to borrow a phrase I've seen @harshmadhusudan use often, 'long India'. You're ‘long’ when you invest in / own something expecting it to continually rise in the long term.

2/ Modi has invested his all in a fund that is most valuable to him - a fund he, together with his team, actively manages.

The fund is, India.

That fund comprises of national security, healthcare, economy, social empowerment and so on.

He is long India.

3/ If you track Modi’s public addresses or social media posts, almost 75% of them pertain to the ‘boring’ stuff.

Kisaan Sammaan Yojana, Jan Dhan, rural empowerment, LPG, strengthening the defense sector etc.

India grows if all its sectors grow - the 'boring' approach.

4/ Kanhaiya, Hardik, Tikait etc are relied upon by forces inimical to India to go short on India.

Going short on something essentially means you bet that it’ll fall in value.

You don’t actually invest in / own the asset because your position is that the asset will lose value.

These proposed reforms came in the backdrop of the speeches made by PM Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman in May 2020, during the announcement of 20 lac crore Covid relief package.

Leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, welcomed the ordinances saying that years old demand of the farmer's got fullfilled.

Welcoming the ordinance seemed obvious because who won't be happy to get a bigger market and more buyers for their produce.

After more than two months of the promulgation of the ordinance by the cabinet, first ever voices against the laws were heard in Hyderabad and a few parts of Punjab. Major apprehensions were expressed against the provisions around the stubble burning issue.

17-20 Sept 2020

All the three bill were presented and cleared in the Lok Sabha and Rajyasabha. The then Food processing Minister, Harsimrat Badal, resigned and Akali Dal pulled out as a symbolic protest. Interesting thing is that Rahul Gandhi went overseas during same time.

My take on @AmitShah 's visit of Chennai 21 - 22 November.

1. Amit Shah looked extremely pleased with the trip overall, evident from the way he got out of the cavalcade and walked.

I saw that rare smile on his face throughout his visit

He is also pleased with EPS's performance in the state - best implementation of central schemes.

Maybe reason for no anti-incumbency in the state, especially after last year's debacle.

Why is it important for Shah to be pleased with AIADMK's warm position towards BJP/ Shah?

It is important because the alliance is a two-way bridge. Shah needs AIADMK at the centre, especially in Rajyasabha more 'involved' to pass some of the heavy weight and controversial bills he has up his sleeve.

He is pleased because AIADMK is willing to partner. In exchange,

Shah may need to give cabinet position/s. I suppose a cabinet reshuffle is round the corner.

Two-way bridge because

a. It looked for some time BJP was a dead rubber for AIADMK post 2019 LS elections. This might mean that AIADMK may have decided to ditch BJP.

b. The old cry of BJP contesting alone still lingers in BJP leadership. This isn't good for now for two reasons:

~ That may inadvertently let DMK form a govt in TN

~ May make some key constitutional amendments Modi and Shah are planning at the centre difficult to pass

EPS-OPS SPEECH IN THE AIADMK GEN COUNCIL.

From these speeches, I am picking up some undercurrents and seeing AIADMK's positioning of themselves in the election procession.

I am also analysing long term impacts of this.

EPS

1. Did the due diligence of glorifying MGR and JJ well enough, but seemed keen to move on and set the new party

2. Pulled a good balancing trick of precariously positioning party ahead of self, but keeping the emerging self image intact

3. Did not look like playing on the newly built stature/ image. Looked very aware, confident of his reach and acceptance by people, but not overly indulging in self. Showed exceptional maturity

4. Craftily directed criticisms/ allegation of corruption towards the party,

and asking the party to counter baseless allegations, while giving credit of performance to the government.

5. Spoke to the workers like a captain in the battlefield in clear, simple and categorical terms - setting expectations on them, setting the tone, agenda and approach

6. Did not mention the @narendramodi or the centre even once when talking to his workers.

Did not even mention the schemes @AmitShah inaugurated. No love left from that function in November.

While never missing an achievement of own government and invoking the dead leaders,

Americas problem with racism has been supported by the ingrained bigotry of Christianity against indigenous non-Christian, primarily polytheistic/pagan cultures globally for centuries. That ingrained bigotry is now joined in America by an even more intolerant religion, Islam.

Today, as America tries to address racism, Christian churches in America of every denomination spend billions in “missionary” efforts to target, demonize & attack non-Christian indigenous populations in all foreign nations. They’re joined by Islamic organizations advancing Islam.

போனவாரம் என் மனைவி எங்கள் பேரனிடம் குடிக்க கொஞ்சம் தண்ணீர் வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டாள். என் பேரனும் போய் குடிதண்ணீர் எடுத்து வராமல்

டம்ளரில் குழாய் தண்ணீரை பிடித்து கொண்டு வந்தான். அதை அப்படியே குடித்து விட்டு "சமத்துடா கொழந்த... அடுத்த வாட்டி யாராவது குடிக்க தண்ணீர் கேட்டால் அதோ அந்த குடத்தில் இருந்து தான் எடுத்து கொடுக்கணும். சரியா?" என்று சொன்னாள்.

இதைப் பார்த்து என் மகள், "ஏம்மா... அந்த தண்ணிய குடிச்ச?" என்று கொஞ்சம் கடிந்து கொண்டாள்.

"கொழந்த ஶ்ரீராம் எவ்வளவு பாசமா... ஆசையா கொண்டு வந்தான் தெரியுமா? அவனை disappoint பண்ணக்கூடாது. அதுக்கு தான் ஒண்ணும் சொல்லாமல் குடிச்சேன்" என்றாள்.

1. There are exceptions to every rule, but I don't think even those who hate Rahul Gandhi or the dynasty react so viscerally to them as those who hate Modi, especially the Lutyens cabal, only because Modi treats most of them like they don't exist. The Lutyens ecosystem is rattled

My Notes on Tamil Nadu Battle Field – Part 3

POST RAJINIKANTH POLITICS

My short thread on RK was focusing on the challenges RK will face. Key points.

1. I said that if Rajini couldn’t enter the “Rajini” style, hen he won’t enter at all. His announcement yesterday reflects it.

2. His followers are not united by a cause or ideology but by the mutual attraction towards a hero.

This will cause issues going forward as their bond will have to be a continuous guidance and inspiration from their leader who couldn't spare that energy or time due to his health

I had predicted in my first thread in November that Rajini won't form a third front.

So, when RK announced his political entry, I was surprised for two reasons:

1. when he announced his entry in 2017 there was a political vacuum in Tamil Nadu.

However, the rise of EPS and BJP through its Vel Yathra has made the emergence of a new hero somewhat redundant and it looked he was under pressure to come due to the tall promises he had made before.

2. the critical mass was still a distant dream because not enough footwork was done at booth level to transfer support to vote.
