By far, one of the most interesting Ethereum addresses I've seen is @0x_b1.

It's quite an interesting social experiment as well - a $300m whale starting a Twitter account for fun. Check their bio.

Let's break down the address and see what they are doing with their capital. 👇

 0xb1 was created in mid-August, amid the food farming craze.

The address is active every day of the week and consistently makes transactions between 12:00 UTC and 6:00 UTC (sleeps between 7-11).

Likely U.S. based individual or team based on this history.

0xb1 is a yield farming beast, to say the least.

It's industrial farming at its best - hundreds of transactions, swapping in and out of the latest yield farms on Ethereum.

Fun fact: the address has spent $111,000 in ether on transaction fees since its inception. Ow.
According to @DeBankDeFi, the address has a current net worth of $280 million, with $381 million in assets or staked assets and $101 million in debt.

Not too sure if this is 100% accurate, as there may be some new farms that it may not capture or represent properly.
99% of this capital is active in yield farms.

Out of the ~$280 million, only ~$250k is naked.

The address has $150 million worth of ETH and WBTC collateral deposited in Compound, which is being used to borrow $80 million worth of stablecoins.

C-ratio scares me a bit.
An additional $38 million is supplied to Aave, most of which is in Chainlink.

Borrowing Ethereum, MANA (for DG farming), SNX, and a few other tokens.

Health factor of 1.34...

December's LINK wick ($12 -> $8) could put this at risk.
The address also has $4m deposited in Aave v2 (health factor of 1.35) and $1.6m in Cream (500% c-ratio).

One interesting bit about 0xb1's Cream balance is the use of ESD as collateral.

Cool to see that new collateral type being used.
Now, where are all these borrowed assets being put to work?

A large portion is in BadgerDAO ($47 million) and Harvest ($30 million).

This address appears to be long BADGER, with $400,000 in BADGER staked, and $1m in BADGER Uniswap LP pools.
0xb1 has $26m in ETH deposited in @AlphaFinanceLab's no-IL ibETH pool. Making a cool $2.6m at current interest levels.

Another $27.5m in Uniswap, mostly in USDC-ETH.

Also $10 million in SushiSwap's Onsen program.
The Alpha Chef is also pretty big on Empty Set Dollar and Dynamic Set Dollar.

$2.7 million in ESD-USDC LP and $550k in the DAO.

$500k in DSD-USDC LP.

No coupons as far as I can tell.
0xb1 has had a few mishaps.

The address holds 3,908,343 GRAIN—the claim token for the @harvest_finance attack. This can be sold for $260,000 assuming no Uniswap slippage.

This means the address lost $3.9 million in the Harvest attack, just over 10% of the total stolen amount.
Another mishap was the Compound DAI liquidation event in November.

DAI/USDC spiked to 1.3 late November, causing the oracle to print an extremely high price, liquidating Compound DAI borrowers.

I think the address lost $1.4 million in the liquidation of its position.
To be fair, this doesn't seem to be a massive concern for 0xb1.

The address earns somewhere in the range of ~$200,000-400,000 each day in yield.
What's most interesting IMO is 0xb1 is becoming an activist investor—or at least an activist farmer.

I'm keeping an eye on @0x_b1. Such a fascinating address - cool that they have a Twitter account as well.

Tether Price Manipulation Thread:

Tether has been manipulating #Bitcoin's price upwards for years now by printing unlimited, and unbacked $USDT.

This thread will cover the controversial aspects surrounding Tether, and how it will eventually meet its demise.


1) Tether is a stable coin that was first launched in 2012.

According to the company, Tether is backed 1:1 with the U.S dollar, although this isn't actually the case.

Bitfinex, and Tether have refused to show audits of their reserves, which is held in offshore bank accounts.


2) In 2019, The United States District Court sued Bitfinex, Tether, and Poloniex for being involved in a massive price manipulation, and fraud scheme in the crypto markets.

In a court hearing, Tether's lawyer admitted the stable coin was only backed by 74% cash, and securities.


3) On Jan 15th 2021, iFinex is supposed to submit documents requested by NYAG's investigation.

These documents will be consequential to the case.

4) How the scam works:

Tether can print infinite amounts of (worthless) $USDT.

They then inject this into BTC, ETH, LTC, (and others) to cause prices to pump.

Notice how during the months they stopped printing Tether, the market moves sideways or drops significantly.

Working on some execution optimisation related backtesting. I have so far been executing with market orders only. Going towards higher lot sizes, I'd like to optimise for minimal slippage.

First off, on NSE, if you place a market order, you get filled at the best bid/ask right?

If we want to optimise this, the first non-creative idea one can think of is, slicing the order into different lot sizes, and placing a limit order for each slice at the mid point of current best bid & ask.

But this requires your latency to be the least.

Why would latency affect it?

I looked at tick historical data, and there are more than 18-20 ticks in a second (auction and quote combined).

Even if you keep 10 ticks per second, your best bid/ask can shift from the time you place to the time exchange receives the order.

So, the next best thing that people can do is place tranches of orders every 1s, 3s, 5s, 10s, 15s - in their preferred time range, and get filled at the midpoint or best-bid+1/2/3/4/5 in the depth.

What you need is liquidity.

But if you're trading breakouts, then it's highly likely that your limit orders may not get filled if the action is too fast.

So, a retry mechanism is required in such cases.

If nothing works, you convert your orders to marketable and get filled at worse slippage.

So..had a great conversation last night with older investment types, old friends whom I traded with/against and managed money against or for. Age diff from me is > 10+ years so the takes were interesting but the common theme was a little disturbing (depends on your view)

Was looking at the landscape of the world & quite concerned where we are (I do not share your optimism for a shinny happy future). I am a Bond guy + Cycles & my view approach is ALWAYS what is the worst that can happen (that is how I was taught to trade & manage money) As a Bond

Money manager you never every want to apologize for a negative year, most people don't understand bonds can lose lots and lots and lots of money. So my view on life is always negative & fuck you approach.

The others are similar but have more equity exposure and FX, one other is really good via commodities so the conversation was from a top down look with some bottom up approaches. So.....after looking at the notes of the great conversation this is how it looked:

basically the world changed 2007/2008 especially North America. The GFC set in motion financial engineering games and here we are. The issues pre this (2000 to 2007) set ALL this up so lots of blame to go around but to pin point certain things the real problems started with QE &

•This requires a high level of skill, and discipline in terms of which strike to choose, which time to trade, and which days to trade.

•It also comes with higher drawdown.


1/ Screen Time:

• Indian markets function from 9:15-15:30.

• Dividing this time zone into 3 sub parts:
- 9:15 to 10:30: trending market
- 10:30 to 13:30: for retracement
- 13:30 to 3:30: trending

2/ Focus on momentum:

• Option buyers make money when the momentum is quick.

• However if the market remain sideways for few days then the option starts to lose its value.

• This is because theta decay works against option buyers.

3/ Option buyers need momentum to make money:

• Hence focus on the 1st & 2nd time zone where the markets are trending.

• Avoid taking trades between 10:30am till 13:30.

• Special focus on Wednesday & Thursday as premiums are low and if you can catch momentum then good R/R.

This post is pretty bizarre, but it manages to hit on so many false beliefs that I've seen hurt junior data scientists that it deserves some explicit

(1) The notion that R is well-suited to "building web applications" seems totally out of left field. I don't feel like most R loyalists think this is a good idea, but it's worth calling out that no normal company will be glad you wrote your entire web app in R.

(2) It is true that Python had some issues historically with the 2-to-3 transition, but it's not such a big deal these days. On the flip side, I have found interesting R code that doesn't run in modern R interpreters because of changes in core operations (e.g. assignment syntax).

(3) "Most of the time we only need a latest, working interpreter with the latest packages to run the code" -- this is where things get real and reveal some things that hurt data scientists. If this sentence is true, it's likely because you don't share code with coworkers.

(3) Really is a broader issue in data science: people only think of what they need to do their work if no one else existed and code was never maintained. Junior data scientists almost always operate on projects they start from scratch and don't have to maintain for long.

Inlining heredoc strings in any way right now is grrrosssss. Now we get sensible capabilities. Everything that was wrong with it is now fixed!

Before you either strung a bunch of functions together or messed with internal array pointers. This is a much-needed improvement.

🧵EMA + VWAP STRATEGY

Every trader has a go-to strategy that works best for them. My trading is all about keeping it simple stupid and revolves around two indicators - Exponential moving averages and vwap.

Here's the strategy that I utilize on nearly 80% of my trades.

What are Exponential Moving Averages?

EMA's are a type of moving average that places a greater weight on more recent data points.

8EMA = Exponential Moving Averages of the last 8 candle closing prices.

EMA's adjust with respect to chart time frame.

What is VWAP?

Volume Weighted Average Price - A key intraday indicator in my trading that offers the true average price based on price & volume.

Calculation: (Price x # of shares traded) / total shares traded

EMA's I use

- 8
- 21
- 50

While I do utilize the 50EMA, the 8 & 21 EMA are most important for this strategy. Some people use the 9 and 20 which are essentially the same thing. REMEMBER: EMA'S adjust with respect to time frames.
