It's Sunday morning and I'm grumpy 😑😑 and bored 🥱🥱

Why you ask? It's the weekend, everybody loves the weekend. Time to chill and relax and unwind!!

Yeah talk to a Trader!! We hate weekends and Love Mondays 😂🤣😋

 So anyway, my threads on real life practical trading seem to be helping you guys and getting lots of good questions

One which I'm getting asked a lot and a traders biggest dilemma is "WHEN TO SELL"!!
I mean we first look thru a 1000 charts, then we select one to enter, get the entry correct nd wowza it's moving in th right direction nd we're in some profits

Shud be super happy rite?

Unfortunately that's a traders worst nightmare!! Why you ask? Cos goddamit when do we sell?
If we sell too early we risk losing big profits

If we wait too long it might just reverse and we lose most of our profits and most likely even end up in a loss

If we do nothing then our blood pressure goes up cos hey we're traders and that's how we are 😋😋
So here's a "DEEP DIVE WITH DEEPS" on "When To Sell"

** Took me several days to come up with this catch phrase for my learning threads. I hope you guys like it
Before I start here's one of my fav financial quotes by Baron Rothschild (Google him) - "I never buy at the bottom and I always sell too soon"
The point being it's never to early to sell as long as you're making profits so don't ever feel bad that you sold early

If you do it consistently enough those profits will add up and you'll end being richer and more confident allowing you to ride winners as your trading improves
With that aside here are 3 simple methods that will help you guys resolve this dilemma and no matter what will ensure that you almost always end up in profits

But remember this works only if you get your entry right and following classical charting in the best way for that
For today's example we take the hourly chart of Tata Steel

Before anything we wait patiently for the pattern to setup and enter only on a confirmed breakout which is marked on the chart with a blue arrow
So now that we got our entry correct and the stock is moving in the right direction - We immediately start praying 😋😋

With that I mean set your SL as per your risk profile. RISK MANAGEMENT is always a traders top most priority
Method 1 - Set a winning percentage to exit between 5 - 10% from your entry price

This is good for rookie traders so that you slowly accumulate profits. Might sound less but remember banks give you 5% a year and here you're getting 5% in a few days sometimes even a few hours
Method 2 - Say thank you to our good friend Leonardo Fibonacci for this. This is something most seasoned traders follow so it pretty much works

The 161.8% Fib level from the high to the low of the pattern is your exit level

It's simple, easy, fuss free and almost always works
Method 3 - Pattern Target

Classical chartists follow this and magically it almost always works as well.

Richard Schabacker considered the grandfather of technical analysis follows this method in his book "Technical Analysis and Stock Market Profits"
There will always be regret that we sold too early but whenever you feel like that remember the quote from Baron Rothschild mentioned early. Taking profits will never make you poor.

More Profits = More Capital = More Confidence = More Chances you will ride winners better
Once you sell just MOVE ON!!

Consider each trade to be ur mistress and not your wife. Done with one mistress, move on and look for another. Isn't that every guys dream anyway 😋😋

It's every girls dream as well but unfortunately they get branded sluts! But that's another topic

Lets First start from knowing the cause of this "FEAR" of pulling the trigger.

A traders goes through many phases before becoming Profitable.

The first phase is the " APUN HI BHAGWAN HAI" phase-

When we first begin Trading, we don’t know any concepts, we don’t know about the risks , the dangers.

So we start trading, and like most guys by beginners luck we start making good, we start to calculate how much money we will make in next 1yr, 5 yrs, Greed start to Hop in.


We get introduced to Various instruments, F&O, LEVERAGE.

We take big positions as we don’t have any FEAR cause we haven't seen those bad phases yet.

Now we get the Big blow, account down -50%, or in many cases wiped out.

The first phase ends here.


Now we know How the market can kick our ass, we now know the risk that comes with those big positions.

"THE LEARNING PHASE"-

Now we know that we were just lucky initially and now we have to learn why we get those losses, so we start learning concepts , fundamental, Technicals.

Trader X -

Net-worth - 5 Cr
Trading capital - 25 lakh

Trader Y -

Net-worth - 30 lakh
Trading capital - 25 lakh

Trader X take risk of 2% per trade and he makes about 30-40 % Return on trading capital per month,

Whereas Trader Y only risk 0.25% per trade and he makes about 3-4 % on Trading capital per month.

Trader Y saw how much trader X is making with the same amount of capital that he has.

He is frustrated with his mediocre results as compared to Trader X, though he don’t know the fact that Trader X Is only trading with 5 % of his total net worth.

Trader X has much more risk taking ability in Rupee terms as compared to the Trader Y because he has higher net-worth.

Trader X will not have much impact when he goes into deep Drawdowns , 40-50% where as if the Trader Y goes below 15% DD , it will have deep psychological impact on him.

Even if the Trader X makes 100% return on his trading capital , turns 25 lakh into 50 lakhs ,

But first, do you know the definition of a bear market?

When any index falls 20% or more from it's all time high, it is termed to be in a #bearmarket 🐻

How do you calculate length of a bear market? The time duration in days from previous all-time high to market bottom.

🇮🇳 Nifty last 25 years (1997-2022*)

Number of Bear Markets = 8

Average drawdown % = -38.5%

Average bear market duration = 246 days (8 m)

Key takeaway - Bear markets occur every ~3 years and take on average 8 months to bottom

1997 and 2006 saw the fastest bear markets with Nifty correcting 20-30% in just ~1 month.

Unbelievably, 1997 had 2 bear markets! Just imagine suffering 20% drawdowns twice in a few months!

Mar 2020 Covid crash was the 3rd fastest and 3rd worst bear market.

Okay, how should we define Bear Market Recovery?

The no of days from market bottom to a new all-time high.

Sadly, bear markets take time to recover.

Almost double the time to recover to a new ATH compared to the time to form a bottom.

Avg recovery duration – 495 days

Devi rose from a Yaga Gunda, mounted on the Sri Chakra Rath with the name Lalithambika, waged a war against Pandasura and destroyed him.  When her fury did not subside, Shiva asked her to go to Earth, assume the name Manonmani, perform penance and shed her fury.


Shiva blessed Devi to be Shanta nayagi. There is a sculpture here depicting Shiva pacifying Devi. If you observe closely, you can see that from your left hand side there will be a smile on Her face and if you see from your right hand side you can see anger in Her face.


Hayagriva taught the greatness of Lalitha Sahasranama to Rishi Agasthya. Pleased with his devotion, Ma Lalithambikai appeared before Agastya. He is believed to have then sung Lalita Navaratnamala in praise of Devi. He has also composed a hymn named Rahasyanamasahasram.

3/ There's been 4 major eras at making the service economy work online. The Listings Era, the unbundled Craiglist era, the Uber for X era, and the Managed Marketplace era


4/ Each era has added more value than the last, and utilized technology innovations, from internet to social / "read/write web" to mobile. The "Unbundling Craigslist" era was particularly epic at generating startup ideas


5/ The problem is, all the low-hanging fruit has been picked off. The techniques that got us to here won't get us to the next phase. So we have to do some pretty different things. That's why "Managed Marketplaces" have been a big deal - hire folks as W-2s, certify quality, etc.
