Why are Indian businesses like Saregama / Tips selling for 11x, 20x their sales?

If I include all of the revenue generated by entire firm, its selling for ~4.5x FY20 Sales

If you see the ebitda of universal music its low 20% compared to our saregama 30% or tips 50%. So when you compare earnings saregama is 40x and tips is 30x and universal music is 30x. Also these type of companies are less( low or no capex with excellent and growinh cashflows)

The acquisition was financed by adding debt, so interest costs from next quarter will go up but still great!

For a company that operates in a cyclical sector like cement!

What I liked is that the company was able to maintain the balance sheet and margins even in a down cycle.

With real estate sector reviving, this can be a great bet from here.

Credit Default Swaps belong to a category of derivative products called Swaps.

Derivative products are usually of two kinds

1. Standardized Derivative Products like Futures and Option Contracts that are traded over the exchange

2. Non Standardized Over the Counter Products like Forwards and Swaps

Swap at its simplest is an agreement between two parties to exchange a series of cash flows for a set period of time

Swaps were basically invented to help large banks and companies manage their interest rate and currency exposures

80% of traders just maintain a trading journal and never evaluate.

Recording your trades on day-to-day basis is just maintaining a trade book which your broker can furnish anytime.

Hence this exercise of recording trades is simply futile.

Things to record in the Trading Journal:

3. Qty
4. Buy Date
5. Buy price
6. Sell Date
7. Sell price
8. Profit/Loss
9. SL
10. % of cap risked

Once all the records are in place you need to build an analytics tool.

Trade records on its own is just the raw data which needs to be processed to derive info out of it.

Record your 50 or 100 trades.

Thereafter, analyse the following:

1. No. of wins
2. No. of Losses
3. % of winning trades ( No. of wins/Total trades)
4. Avg gain %
5. Avg loss %
6. Gain to Loss ratio ( 4./5.)
7. Reward to Risk ratio
8. Open Risk

An irony of facebook's situation.

Sheryl got her MBA at Harvard. One of the most famous cases (Extra Strength Tylenol) in one of the most famous classes (Business History) she took: in 1982, someone put cyanide in Extra Strength Tylenol capsules and killed 7 people in Chicago.

What do you do when someone turns your product into a weapon? When they use the system you built to harm? James Burke, CEO of J&J, was shockingly open with the public, he pulled the product and made significant packaging changes to make product safer (but not tamper-proof).

He over-shared every step along the way re investigation, redesign, stood up as both CEO and human. The reintroduction of new Extra Strength Tylenol succeeded. Burke saved the brand.

But four years later it happened again. A killer put cyanide in the capsules, this time a woman in Yonkers died. Same CEO, Burke, pulled the product again, completely changed the form factor from capsule to caplet and relaunched *again*. It worked *again*. How'd they do that?

Burke (CEO) tapped J&Js goodwill bank account w/ the public. Two big withdrawals from that bank account in four years + 8 dead bodies! But his honesty, openness, humanity (choked up about the deaths more than once), humility kept the goodwill bank balance positive the whole time.

The first likely historical reference to Ethiopia is ancient Egyptian records of trade expeditions to the "Land of Punt" in search of gold, ebony, ivory, incense, and wild animals, starting in c 2500 BC 🇪🇹
