ஒரு ஊரில் இருந்த ஒரு திருடன், அவன் திருடாத இடமே இல்லை என்று மக்களுக்குக் கடும் அவதியை தந்ததால் ஊர் மக்கள் அனைவரும் ராஜாவிடம் சென்று முறையிட்டனர். அவன் யாரிடமும் சிக்காமல் தப்பித்து வந்ததால் அரசர், இந்த திருடனை பிடித்துத் தந்தால் ருபாய் ஐந்து லட்சம் என

அறிவித்தார். சில நாட்கள் கழித்து அந்த அரசர், யார் பற்று இல்லாமல் இருகிறார்களோ அவருக்கு என் ராஜ்ஜியத்தில் பாதியை தந்து விடுகிறேன் என அறிவித்தார். பின் மந்திரியிடம் நீங்கள் சென்று யார் பற்று இல்லாமல் உள்ளார் என தேடிப் பார்த்து அழைத்து வாரும் என ஆணையிட்டார். மந்திரி தேடி செல்லும்

போது இந்த திருடன் அவனிடம் வசமாக மாட்டிக் கொண்டான். மந்திரி ஒரு சூழ்ச்சி செய்தான். உன் தலைக்கு ராஜா ஐந்து லட்சம் என கூறியுள்ளார். நான் சொல்வது போல் நீ நடித்தால் உனக்கு இருபது லட்சம் தருகிறேன், மேலும் உன்னையும் தப்பிக்க வைக்கிறேன் என உறுதி அளித்தான். சரி என இந்த திருடனும்

சம்மதித்தான். அந்த திருடனுக்கு
திருநீறும் ருத்ராட்சமும் அணிவித்து ஒரு சன்யாசி போல் வேடமிட்டான் மந்திரி. பின் அவனிடம், நீ இந்த மரத்தின் கீழ் அமைதியாக அமர்ந்து இரு. ராஜா வந்து எதை தந்தாலும் வேண்டாம் என்று சொல், கடைசியாக அவர் தன் ராஜ்ஜியத்தில் பாதியை உனக்கு தானமாக தருவார். அதை

வாங்கி என்னிடம் தா, நான் உனக்கு பேசியது போல் இருபது லட்சம் தருவேன் என சொன்னான். பின் அந்த மந்திரி, ராஜாவிடம் சென்று, பற்றுகளை விட்டு மரத்தடியில் அமர்ந்துள்ள ஒரு சன்யாசியை கண்டுள்ளேன். அவரை தரிசித்து தங்களின் ஆசையை நிறைவேற்றி கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான். அரசர் சென்று மரத்தடியில் இருந்த

#கோரக்கர் ஒரு சமுத்திரம். அவரின் குரு ஸ்ரீ #மச்சேந்திரநாதர் ஒருசமயம் சிவபெருமானும், பார்வதிதேவியும் கடற்கரை ஒன்றில் உலவிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது ராமதாரக மந்திரத்தின் பெருமையைச் சிவபெருமான் உமாதேவியாருக்கு உபதேசம் செய்தார். இதை மிகுந்த கவனத்துடன் ஒரு மீன்குஞ்சு கேட்டுக்

கொண்டிருந்தது. இந்த மகாமந்திரத்தை கேட்ட புண்ணியத்தால் அந்த மீன் குஞ்சு ஒரு மானிடனாக பிறந்தது. இவர் மீனாக இருந்து மானிட வடிவம் பெற்றவர் என்ற செய்தி மக்களுக்கு தெரிந்து இவரை மச்சேந்திரநாதர் என்று அழைக்கலாயினர். இவர் தோற்றத்திலும், செயல்களிலும் முனிவர் போல தோன்றினார். இறைவனின்

கருணையாலும், தோன்றும் போதே ராம தாரக மந்திர உபதேசம் பெற்றதாலும் ஞானதிருஷ்டி உடையவராக விளங்கினார். இறைவனது புகழைப் பாடியபடியே, பிச்சை எடுத்து உண்டு வந்தார், இரவில் இரண்டொரு வீடுகளில் நாராயணா என்பார், கிடைத்தால் உண்பார் இல்லாவிடில் இல்லை. பகலில் நகரங்களின் வழியாக செல்லாமல் வனங்களின்

வழியாகவே தீர்த்த யாத்திரை செல்வார். ஒரு நாள் சிற்றூர் ஒன்றில் உள்ள ஒரு வியாபாரியின் வீட்டின் முன் நின்று நாராயணா என்று கூவினார். உள்ளே இருந்த வணிகனின் மனைவி அன்னத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வெளியே வந்தாள். வந்தவள் இவரது தோற்றத்தைக் கண்டு இவர் தெய்வாம்சம் பெற்றவர் என்று உணர்ந்தாள். பிறகு,

இவரை நோக்கி, சுவாமி! இந்த வீட்டில் குழந்தை விளையாடும் பாக்கியம் இருக்கிறதா? என்று கேட்டாள். அவளது ஏக்கத்தை உணர்ந்த அவர் அம்மணி, இந்த திருநீற்றை உட்கொண்டால் உங்களது பாக்கியம் நிறைவேறும். திருமாலின் அம்சமாக ஒரு மைந்தன் தோன்றுவான் என்று சொல்லி ஒரு சிட்டிகை திருநீற்றை கொடுத்தார். அதை

God is One
We Hindus regard both Shiva and Vishnu as the same and this is evident from the fact that in the ecstasy of our devotion, whether were are alone or are in groups, we exclaim "Haro-Hara" and "Govinda-Govinda", which (whose) names come to our lips spontaneously. The holy

days of Shivaratri and Janmashtami are divided from each other by exactly 180 days, and this seems to indicate that God in His aspect as Shiva protects us during one-half of the year, and in His aspect as Vishnu, in the other half. The traditional practice of boys and girls

collecting oil for their vigil on Shivaratri and Janmashtami nights, singing in chorus a song which means that Shivaratri and Sri Jayanti are the same, is another pointer to the identity of these two manifestations of the Divine. Apachaaranivrtti must precede Anugraha -

eradication of sins must precede blessings. So God as Hara destroy the sins of His devotees, while as Govinda, He protects them from harm. The expressions Hara-Hara and Govinda-Govinda come to children effortlessly. It is significant that Sri Shankara composed Bhaja Govindam when

he was a child and Sri Sambandar sang that Hara naama should envelop the world, when he too was a child. The Upanishads speak of God as Uma-sameta-Parameswara, and it is worthy of note that all children refer to God as Ummachi, which is obviously a contraction for Uma-Maheshwara.

One day Mahaperiyava with his service minded people went on a Padayatra to Thirukovilur. People of Thirukovilur gathered and waited for Mahaperiyava in the entrance of the Village. There was a a small path on the right hand side of the village which led to another

village called as Vasanthanalloor. He turned in that direction. Those with Him told,”Periyava, this village is a very small village and it does not have a small pond to take bath and it will not be neat also so let us go straight to Thirukovilur". But Maha Periyava continued as

though he heard nothing. The small path was totally dry, very soon
Periyava saw this beautiful Sight.
The neem tree The Banyan tree the Vilva tree were twined together.
They seem to tell that we are living with nature and as friends too. If men were also to live like plants as

friends then God would be really pleased. Mahaperiyava called Vedapuri mama and ask him to build a small thatched roof house under the twined trees. He asked his Mutt assistants to call all the important people of the village to His Ashram. They gathered and bowed to MahaPeriyava

They only knew that Periyava was a Mahan. Periyava told them, “I want to stay in your town and do Pooja, do you have any objection?"
They said there is no objection Swami, but it is long since it rained in this town.
“Let me stay tonight here”

By the blessings of Sri Maha Periyava, I have been able to do brain operations in India continuously in the government General Hospital in Madras

from 1964 to 1992 and after I retired from government service, I have been in private hospitals for more than a decade. What is perhaps equally important is that I have been able to involve throughout these forty years in training several dozens of young doctors in neurosurgery

in the General Hospital, Chennai from 1964 to 1992 and in Apollo Hospital, Chennai recognized for DNB qualification in neurosurgery from 1992 onwards. In those days when a Brahmin boy went abroad and returned he was supposed to go to Rameswaram and have a bath in the ocean for

purification. Somehow although we are an orthodox family, I could not do this. Soon after my return I had to undergo surgery for hernia. Then I got married. Later I became very busy in hospital work and I could never get the time to plan a trip to Rameswaram. Sometime in 1975 I

went to Kancheepuram with my younger sister and niece to have darsanam of Maha Periyava. By that time I had already been abroad several times. An elderly Brahmin gentleman who had just come from Nigeria was present too to have darshan. There was a crowd of about sixty or seventy
