1/ A person named Jeffery earns 100 dollars per month and has an expenditure of 120 dollars monthly. He has a very good reputation in the society. So, he takes a loan of 1k dollars for a month and this 1k cash is invested in new business ventures.

2/ For the next month, he pays his liability back by taking a loan from another person for 1.5k dollars. The loan of 1k is paid back and the remaining 500 dollars are invested in another business venture.

3/ By the end of the month, he earns 150 dollars through his old and new business ventures but has a total expenditure of 200 dollars. He again is in a deficit of 50 dollars. To pay back his 1.5k dollar loan, he takes a loan for 2k dollars

4/ This cycle goes on and on. Jeffery keeps on taking bigger loans to repay the previous loan and the leftover extra loan is invested in bigger ventures which produce more expense than income.

Munger: What was interesting was how talented they were and then also got in so much trouble. It also demonstrates general system of finance involving derivatives is irresponsible.

Warren: Here you had extremely experienced people operating with their own money.

• They went broke. Why do people risk losing something very important to gain something that’s totally unimportant? The added money has no utility whatsoever.

If almost impossible to go broke without borrowed money being in the equation. No gain is good enough when there is no gain to offset the risk of loss.


2. Estimating Company’s IV

Warren: Investment is process of putting money today to get more money back in the future. The question is how far in the future, how much money and what is the appropriate discount rate to take it back to the present day and determine how much to pay?

• There has been slow and steady growth and the industry is slowly coming out of Covid.
• Entertainment and Education has seeing a good growth in digitization.
• Saregama is in a good position to take the advantage of the digitization.

• Cost has been tightened over the past 2 quarter.
• Company debt company last year, has been reduced a lot.

Growth Driver:
• Primary driver for the 24% sales growth is the Carvaan sales and the music right.

Plan of purchasing music right

• Company had a plan of buying a music right of the last music in order to have long term sustainibility in order to tap the current you in future.
• This was stopped due to Covid.

Data-facts:
• 98% of India fuel requirement in road transportation is met through fossil fuel.
• Bio fuels only consist about 2% of use for road transportation.

• Ethanol is the important part of biofuel. It is naturally produced from fermentation of sugar by years or via petrochemical process such as ethylene hydration.
• Combined ethanol distillation capacity of India is 684 crore litres

There are different types of Ethanol variants:
1. E-10: In this, 90% of usage is gasoline & 10% Ethanol.
2. E-10 is maximum used in India.
E-20:
3. In this, 80% of usage is gasoline & 20% Ethanol.

The calorific value of ethanol is around 2/3rd of gasoline

Recent Target Improvements:

• National Policy for Biofuel has increased the target of Ethanol Blending to 20% from 10%
• With low quantity around 50% of petrol sold is E10 blended & rest is unblended(E0).
• Current level of Ethanol blending is ~7-8%, & 10% is expected by 2022

Originally built by Chalukyas in 7th century. Devi Banashankari was their family deity. This image of Banashankari Amma was installed by Jagadekamalla I in 630 AD.

Later renovations were done by Marathas.


Once, a demon Durgamasur was troubling the people of this area. Answering the prayers of Devas, Ma Parvati emerged from the yajna fire as Banashankari and killed Durgamasur.
This area has rich forests of coconut, betel nut and other trees.

It is said that during a severe famine, Devi provided vegetables and fruits to the people of this area.
Hence, she is also worshipped here as Shakambhari.
In the annual festival called Banashankari jatre, a Rath yatra takes place and Devi moves around the city in the chariot.

Once, a demon Pandasura was harassing the Devas who went to Devi Parashakti for protection.

Devi rose from a Yaga Gunda, mounted on the Sri Chakra Rath with the name Lalithambika, waged a war against Pandasura and destroyed him.  When her fury did not subside, Shiva asked her to go to Earth, assume the name Manonmani, perform penance and shed her fury.


Shiva blessed Devi to be Shanta nayagi. There is a sculpture here depicting Shiva pacifying Devi. If you observe closely, you can see that from your left hand side there will be a smile on Her face and if you see from your right hand side you can see anger in Her face.


Hayagriva taught the greatness of Lalitha Sahasranama to Rishi Agasthya. Pleased with his devotion, Ma Lalithambikai appeared before Agastya. He is believed to have then sung Lalita Navaratnamala in praise of Devi. He has also composed a hymn named Rahasyanamasahasram.
