A quickfire thread based on a book I read recently titled " 80/20 YOUR LIFE " .

Disclaimer : This is MY interpretation & the ratio (80/20) is variable..
The essence here is to identify what matters & weed out the inconsequential & thereby manage time accordingly.

But it can also be applied practically in our day to day life in all possible aspects to ensure smooth sailing.

Our Top priority goal must be a S.M.A.R.T goal aka :

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Time based goal .

Everything is #time based as time saved can be used constructively for other purposes or even wasted happily ! :))

*Cultivate a forward looking #mindset.
* Learn to #skim and #scan.
* Dedicate #focus & #energy to tasks that produce the greatest impact WRT our goals.

Maintain a quality to-do list & a daily to-do list .Ensure high value tasks are mentioned first. Stick to it !
*Be realistic .
*Don't bite off more than you can chew.
*Under promise & over deliver at work to gain attention intially ( NOT VICE VERSA!)

🔸On How to Minimise Risk ?

* Look at long term volatility of Cash Flows ( assuming Financial Statements paint a fair picture )

* Check if business generates Free Cash Flow ( FCF). This ensures company is unlikely to be wiped out at the bottom of the cycle.

🔸Management Integrity matters.

You notice good governance only when it is gone !
Hence unless one has demonstrable proof on a long term basis that people are honest , consider them to be crooks .
Cynical approach but helps save us from losses !

🔸 Level of competitive intensity in the business matters. Risk is lower when there are fewer players.

More cut throat the industry , more finesse shall be required and growth shall depend on the ability to adapt and successfully execute.

🔸Try to anticipate what can change in a business .

Scanning the historical precedent or envisaging the future helps .

Inherent risks of business matter !

Sometimes these are completely overlooked & can prove to be extremely expensive.

1/ There are a ton of books about Financial & Fundamental Analysis, Scuttlebutt and Technical Analysis. But there aren't many books 'taking risk'.

Among the few that exist, 'Zurich Axioms', written in 1985, is the best. Here are my key takeaways from the book.

2/ A bit about Max Gunther's (The Author) background. He was an Anglo-American journalist and writer, who wrote 26 Books.

His father, Franz Heinrich, was the New York Head of Schweizerischer Bankverein, which later merged into the famous Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS).

3/ The 'Zurich Axioms' were a set of unwritten rules followed by a informal group of Swiss Bankers and Traders who used to socialize around Wall Street after World War II. Mr. Heinrich was one of the founding members.

Max Gunter formalied these 'Axioms' by writing about them.

4/ There are 12 'Major Axioms' and 16 'Minor Axioms' (Corollary to the Major Axioms) in the book.

But remember, this is MY key takeaways from the book and not an exact summary. So you might find quotes, phrases and links inserted here and there by me (Not from the Author).

5/ Axiom #1: In order to earn returns, you must take risk. Risk will make you worry.

Risk-taking and worrying go hand-in-hand. If you're not worried about an investment, you're not taking risk.

Spend half your energy towards earning an income and the rest towards speculation.
