It was at Kalady where Adi Sankaracharya was born to Sivaguru and Aryamba in 788CE.
The village of Kalady, meaning 'Feet', was earlier known as "Sasalam." There is a story explaining how Sasalam got the new name.

Shankara installed Krishna murti to thank Krishna and recited Atchutha Ashtakam.
