In at least 34 countries, religious education is mandatory in all or most state-funded schools, with no secular or humanist alternative. In 5 of these such instruction may be of a coercive fundamentalist or extremist variety.

This is exactly what the UK Government does to unpaid carers -IF you are fortunate to have time to have another job (because you're not caring 24/7) they take your income support or UC pound for pound for every pound you earn. Once that's all gone they take your carers allowance.

So in other words - IF you are fortunate enough to have time to take a job - you end up doing two jobs for half the money. So what you end up with is most full time carers being locked-in to the caring roll earning less than £2.30 an hour.

2020 has been a lesson that the UK population doesn't give a crap about carers, or low income families. Sure, they'll stand on their doorsteps and clap, or abuse their neighbour who didn't clap, but the reality is that it serves the British state to keep low income carers...

...and unpaid carers in forced servitude (and that's exactly what it is). When it broke that people were being forced to work for £3, 4, 5 per hour in sweat shops in northern England at the start of the pandemic, you couldn't turn on a TV channel without some politician...

I'm still seeing a lot of concern about the Texas Supreme Court filing, which is understandable. From a certain angle, it looks imposing.

So here, in sum, is why there's no need for alarm (thread):

1) The case asks the Supreme Court to exercise "original jurisdiction," skipping lower courts. The Court rarely does this. The Court *can* exercise this jurisdiction in state v. state disputes, but doesn't have to.

It takes 5 justices to hear this case, rather than the usual 4.

2) Usually original jurisdiction applies to state v. state disputes over borders, etc. - for example when NJ and NY sued over control of Ellis Island (Jersey!).

The TX case is something else entirely and could have been heard in lower courts (many have rejected similar claims).

3) The heart of Texas's claim is that it objects to election procedures used in four other states. This is unconstitutional and would lead to utter insanity.

First, The Constitution specifically gives each state the right to run its elections as it sees fit. Done and done.

4) And to allow one state to sue over another state's processes would lead to absurd results. Any state could sue any other state over the election. NJ could sue Alabama, Alaska, Idaho. Arkansas could sue MA, NY, and CA. It would never end.

The Court won't countenance that.

The U.S. central government grew relentlessly larger, richer, and more powerful during the decades that every problem faced by Americans got worse. Why does anyone think making the government even bigger would *solve* any of those problems instead of making them even worse?

This is not just a matter of government ineptitude and corruption, although both of those are major factors. Our problems get worse as the government gets bigger because the Leviathan State and its clients have a vested interest in making them worse.

One of the biggest lies of statism is that government and its employees are utterly selfless and immune to the incentives that drive people in the private sector. This is absurd. Every government agency seeks to increase its "business" and "profits," just like corporations.

The key difference is that government increases its "market share" by giving BAD service and FAILING to provide value for money. Its "revenues" grow through coercion, not customer satisfaction. Agencies go out of business if they succeed too well at their tasks.

Time is money and money is time. The more of its time and money a nation pours into the fundamentally corrupt and inefficient engines of the State, the less it has for the private enterprises and VOLUNTARY cooperative endeavors that could actually resolve society's problems.

It now appears that a state election monitor was absent for a part of the counting process.

It is also clear that GOP #PollWatchers were prevented from meaningfully observing much of the process, even though they were allowed in the room.

1. RULE CHANGE
On Aug. 10, the State Election Board approved a new rule allowing election officials to start opening and scanning #AbsenteeBallots 3 weeks before #ElectionDay.

The state is currently being sued over the rule.

2. WATER LEAK
On #ElectionDay, ballot-processing work at the State Farm Arena was delayed. It was later revealed that the source of the leak was an overflowing urinal.

“The emergency delayed officials from processing ballots between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.,” the report says.

3. SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE
Security footage from the arena shows workers moving around furniture after 8:20am.

Only some parts of the footage were made publicly available. Attempts from various parties to obtain the footage have been unsuccessful.

My Foresight

Whatever you see in the next 20 years to come in this country blame the bi-partisan mishandling of ASUU strike.
Let me drop some rough statistics to see what I'm thinking right now.

Today about 2 million Nigerians are working in the US alone. Almost 250 thousand of them are Medical Doctors. The rest are Academicians, Engineers and so forth. Most of these guys were the bests in their schools here in Nigeria.

Because of the poor working condition, unfavorable environment and very low salary, the're forced to emigrate to greener pastures for a better life. Many Nigerian students particularly the ones reading professional courses are thinking of leaving for a better life.

Don't forget this is a country that's in dare need of professional workers. The current doctor-patient ratio will throw you into a depth of despair. From what I observed recently, bad days are coming unless something is done.
