This is the 2nd thread on the Jivanmukta, Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Mahaswami of @sringerimath. 4th thread in the series on Sringeri Guruparampara.

Mahaswami on Vedanta Vichara and our lives:

Acharya often said - Vidya annihilates ignorance and bestows knowledge abt Atma. What does one gain by learning Geography, Chemistry etc?

Rather what does one lose by NOT learning these. Our Shastras sharpen our intellect.

What does one gain by reading magazines? If a story is left unfinished ppl get restless. Ppl want to learn abt everything EXCEPT knowing "I".

He illustrated this w/ example.

Once a man who was posted at various places during his career came to Sringeri for 1st time. He mentioned he wanted to come earlier but couldnt.
He was posted at Kadapa where ppl dissuaded him from visiting Sringeri since it was far.

Similarly whenever he wanted to visit Sringeri his friends and relatives dissuaded him saying Sringeri was a small hamlet amidst jungles. bathing in tunga would be bad for his health, lots of wild animals on the way etc. which put a fear in him about visiting Sringeri.

Starting first thread on the 34th Acharya of Sringeri, Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Mahaswami.

Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Mahaswami [1912-1954]. Just hearing His name gives me goosebumps. I consider it my poorva bhagyam to have even heard about Him.He is undoubtedly One of the greatest Saints to ever walk on Earth. The DhwajapaTi of the Sringeri Peetam [imvho].

A Jivanmukta [one who's liberated even when living] is rare. Only sometimes do those souls take birth. To this parampara belongs Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Mahaswami. Sri CB's parents had many (11) children none of whom survived.

It was w/ blessings of 33rd Acharya that they had a boy. Hence they named Narasimha Sastry.
Even from childhood he was always engrossed in bhakti and was always inward looking.
He loved Muka Panchasati.

Once his mom asked him get something from market, he started to get it reciting Panchasati and he walked out of Sringeri oblivious to the fact he had crossed into jungle. Someone stopped him and it was then he realized where he was. This was when he a kid!!

Some tweets on Adi Shankaracharya and in particular the Guru Parampara of @sringerimath. [I had done this series earlier 5 years ago on account of Shishya Sweekaram].

Adi Shankara established the Sringeri Peetham as the 1st of 4 amnaaya peetams.

The four being
1. Sarada Peetam at Sringeri.
2. Govardhana Peetam at Puri
3. Kalika at Dwaraka
4. Jyothir at Badarikashramam.

He installed his 4 most prominent shishyas as heads of the peetams.

Sureshwaracharya was assigned to Sringeri as its head.

Sringeri is a corruption of Rshyashrunga giri.

Rshyashrunga maharshi [and his father Sri Vibandhaka Maharshi] did their tapas at this place.

It is at Sringeri that Shankara spent 12 of His precious 32 years!!

That gives you and idea how much He loved this place.

Rshyashruga maharshi had a horn on his forehead, a result of being born to a deer. His mere presence was enough to shower rains!!

Rshyashrunga was one who led Putrakamesthi Yaagam of Dasaratha Maharaj and which resulted in Sri Rama's birth!!
