Equalities Minister ⁦@trussliz⁩ says the government has been too focused on “fashionable” race, gender and sexuality issues and will now pivot towards focusing on poverty and levelling up. https://t.co/UOrxSapG7Z

So really simple questions
And there are so so many
Why are concerns over race, gender and sexuality put into air quotes e.g. "fashionable"?
Is "fashionable" meant as a derogatory?
Who are you selling this shite to when you write it this way?
When did the government become "too focused" on race, gender and sexuality issues?
Define "too focused" ?
Will now "pivot" - what you mean from today 17th December 2020?
Why could you not focus on "poverty and levelling up" at the same time as equality issues since some of these issues go hand in in hand after all?
Who and what are you "levelling up" from?
The Diversity section of your job application asks "Which gender do you identify as?" with options:
Male
Female
Other.
1/11

'Gender' is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 and is not defined in the Act.
https://t.co/qisFhCiV1u
2/11

Sex is the protected characteristic and the only two possible options for sex are 'Female' and 'Male' as defined in the Act and consistent with biology and there is no 'other' way describe one's sex.
https://t.co/CEJ0gkr6nF
'Gender' is not a synonym for sex.
3/11

You then ask "Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?"
Equating 'gender' or 'gender identity' with sex is meaningless and relies on demeaning, regressive stereotypical notions of societal roles for the two sexes. Sex is immutable.
4/11
Asking about a personal characteristic such as 'gender' that is not a protected characteristic under the Act, may be in breach of the GDPR by processing personal - and potentially Special Category - data without a lawful basis.

We all know about Right-NIMBYs, rabidly protecting their white-flight suburbs from Those People. And there are plenty of liberal NIMBYs too.
But NIMBYs of the Left are also a force to be reckoned
2/Left-NIMBYs have developed a canon of interlocking, mutually reinforcing beliefs about housing and urbanism.
These beliefs are mostly false, but they form a powerful "canon" that quickly ossifies into a hardened worldview.
It looks something like this:

3/Fortunately, Nathan J. Robinson of Current Affairs has written an article that perfectly encapsulates the Left-NIMBY worldview (and quotes me in it!).
So this is a teachable
4/Robinson selectively quotes a Bloomberg article of mine (https://t.co/iamRrW6oei).
Look at the part he quoted, vs. what I actually wrote!
Pretty different, eh? đ

5/In fact, as I wrote in the article that Robinson failed to read more than one line of, it's theoretically possible that Left-NIMBYs COULD be right that allowing market-rate housing drives up local rents.
I take that possibility very seriously, as do YIMBYs.

Oh King Edward III, itâs adorable that you think you can just decree that servants and laborers become permanently content with wages fixed at the rate they were at five years ago. https://t.co/NtOmttquJ3 (I.xi.e.2) #WealthOfTweets #SmithTweets

Heâs already digressing, and he canât take a minute to share the menu from that famously magnificent feast with us? (I.xi.e.4â5) #WealthOfTweets #SmithTweets
Super Important 18thC Vocab Geekery: When Smith says the price of the quarter of wheat wasn't âsupposed to be < 4 oz silverâ he doesnât mean âshouldn't be.â He means âwasn't thought to be.â Heâs not approving of fixed prices. (I.xi.e.7) #WealthOfTweets #SmithTweets
So. Many. Wheat. Prices. (But really, Smith is talking about how much wheat it takes to buy a quantity of silver, NOT how much silver it takes to buy a quantity of wheat.) (I.xi.e.1â14) #WealthOfTweets #SmithTweets

Just finished an extremely helpful and fun workshop on theorising organised by @aruggeri_eu (who never stops working for his students)! Was great catching up virtually w/ @natrupesinghe @EvgenijaKroeker @CeciliaCorsini Mikael & Ellen!

âBy theorizing I mean the process that comes before a theory is presented in its final formâ Swedberg 2016, 7
âAlthough everyone is for "more theory," most of us have rather little understanding of how to get "more theoryâ.â
Dina A. Zinnes, 1980, 315

How do we shape, draft and calibrate our theory? It is assumed we learn about theorizing via emulation, comparison and practice. Theorizing is a process and we should not confound it with the outcome(a theory). There are pre-theoretical steps/tips that can facilitate the process.

Caveats: this is my way to help theorising. These suggestions are just a theorizing âbanisterâ, nothing more. You will have to climb the stairs for your theory.

What we're aiming at: a theory is a tentative conjecture about the cause of some phenomenon of interest. Logical statement based on assumptions that explain a causal mechanism from which we can derive observable hypotheses and therefore expectations.

My reporting here convinced me that there's no large effect in either direction on labor force participation from child allowances. Canada has a bigger one than either Romney or Biden are considering, and more labor force participation among women.
But what if that wasn't true?
Forcing parents into low-wage, often exploitative, jobs by threatening them and their children with poverty may be counted as a success by some policymakers, but itâs a sign of a society that doesnât value the most essential forms of labor.
The problem is in the very language we use. If I left my job as a New York Times columnist to care for my 2-year-old son, Iâd be described as leaving the labor force. But as much as I adore him, there is no doubt Iâd be working harder. I wouldn't have stopped working!
I tried to render conservative objections here fairly. I appreciate that @swinshi talked with me, and I'm sorry I couldn't include everything he said. I'll say I believe I used his strongest arguments, not more speculative ones, in the piece.
I appreciate his intellectual curiosity and effort. I have quibbles. But my big disappointment is there was no mention of unintended consequences, which we discussed and which are kind of THE core conservative concern on this issue.

XX women do not have their endogenous testosterone levels regulated in any sport. They can and do compete with T levels well into the normal male range around 13.7%. XX receptors are also 10 times more sensitive to T than an XY this could also be seen as unfair. https://t.co/PiERbwBxEP
— Kirsti Miller (@KirstiMiller30) January 28, 2021
Absolutely not, is recognized an XY chromosome body is seen as unhealthy <12nmol/L or less. A XY female as they lose the ability to produce natural occurring testosterone, falls into a range of 0.4nmol/L.
Which we know too, the individual falls into menopause at 9.6nmol/L, and due to complete androgen deprivation eventually into the position of that would equate a XX female = who had had a complete hysterectomy including her gonads.
We can be assured, one this is extremely unhealthy â Moreover, and most important, we can be assured that there are no women either XX and or XY competing internationally like this.
This is not for anyone a desired state and for the participation high performance sport eventually impossible to participate longterm.
